Chapter 1

Eight Years Ago

"Hold the elevator," yelled nineteen-year-old Bonnie Bennett.

Only when an arm stuck out, stopping the door from closing did she take a much needed breath. Still, not wanting to anger whoever had done her a favor, she continued to fast walk, slipping inside. Only after it closed did she let out a sigh of relief.

Turning to the person who had just saved her, she put on a smile. "Thank you."

"No problem."

The deep, strong voice immediately caught her attention. Forgetting why she was even here, she turned to face the person. Or man rather. He stood well over her, which was sad considering she was in three-inch heels. Immediately she took notice of his broad, fit frame. His black hair stood out against his pale skin, and his blue eyes were mesmerizing.

"Are you new here?"

Bonnie shook her head. "No." But I hope to be, she added silently.

After graduating from community college, in one year thanks to all of the advanced placement classes she'd taken up in high school, she had her Associate's degree. Though her father would have loved for her to continue on with her education, she just couldn't. Plenty of schools sounded interesting enough for her to attend but that wasn't what she wanted. In her mind there was no point in wasting money on an education she didn't know if she really wanted.

So instead of spending the months before graduating looking for colleges, she searched for work.

It had taken a while for her father to accept that she wasn't going for a Bachelor's degree, but eventually he accepted it. He even helped her search. Because of that she was able to find a job seeking a secretary. It was only for a tempt position, but still, it was better than nothing.

And because it was for the Salvatore's, even better.

While she personally didn't know anyone in that family the name itself had a reputation. That meant she would not only receive top-notch job experience but hopefully a good letter of recommendation once everything was said and done.

First, she had to get through an interview.

Which was why she needed to get on the elevator, quickly. Unfortunately things had come up early in the morning. Because of that she was running late. Any time that could be spared the better.

Glancing at the Michael Kors watch adorned on her wrist she sighed. Seven minutes left. She could do this.

Bonnie nodded. "Yeah. You?"

The man smirked. "No. Unfortunately I work here."

She didn't take it as a dig. It didn't seem like one. "Why do you say unfortunately?"

"The bosses can be dicks."

Oh, that sucked. However, it didn't deter her any less from wanting the tempt position.

"On a scale from one to ten, how bad?"

His eyes sparkled. "Ten."

Well shit.

"I guess I'll just have to find some way to cope."

Because she was staring at him she saw something flicker across his face. Sex. That's what he had on his mind. She knew it. She had seen that look enough from previous boyfriends. No matter, she didn't find herself disgusted by him. Not even a little bit. In fact, she was intrigued.

"What's your name?"

"Not important."

The quick answer should have told her that something was up. If anything, it made her want to know more about this mysterious stranger.

In the next breath he asked, "What's yours?"

Bonnie laughed. "Why should I tell you my name if you aren't willing to tell me yours?"

"If you end up getting a job I'll find out anyway."

She quickly responded, "Maybe not. We might not even be on the same floor."

"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that your interview is on the top floor. Tempt position for the Salvatore's." Her mouth formed into an O shape. "By the look on your face I'm guessing that I'm correct."

"How did you know?"

"Call it a wild hunch."

She didn't believe that at all.

There were a lot of floors in this building. How could he possibly know her possible job position would be on the top one.

"No," she moved so that she stood in front of him. "I'm not going to take wild hunch for an answer. How did you know?"

He studied her. Though barely any emotion seemed to cross his face it didn't stop him from analyzing her. From head to toe. She felt naked even though she was in a dress that hugged her body and heels. Besides the watch, she chose not to wear any other jewelry, not wanting to overdo it.

Finally, something crossed his face. She couldn't discern the look because a moment after he stuck out his hand. "Damon, Damon Salvatore."

Of course this would happen to her.

Getting stuck in the elevator with her potential boss.

Although she didn't know the Salvatore's she did know the name of a few. Damon, he had a brother named Stefan, and their father … she couldn't remember but it started with a G. At times their names would circulate in the news. Being that it usually circulated around business deals she chose not to read any of it. Now she regretted that decision.

What if he wanted to talk to her about stuff?

Dammit. The word unprepared was the only thing that could explain how she felt right now.

Realizing she was staring at his hand like an idiot, she shook it. "Bonnie Bennet. Nice to meet you."

The elevator came to a stop and a moment later the door pinged. They'd reached the top floor. Damon gestured for her to step out first. She did and he followed behind. It didn't seem like many people were around. Only one or two faces caught her attention. Then again, Damon held most of it.

"Any advice for me?" she asked, trying to keep the mood light.

Damon grinned. "Be yourself. Go to that desk," he pointed to it, "and tell the lady behind it you have an interview for the tempt position. She will direct you on where to go."

Bonnie nodded. "Thank you."

She'd only taken two steps before he called her name. Turning her head, she looked at him, curious to what he would say to her. "Make sure you smile. I hear one of the bosses likes that."

She couldn't help the way her lips pulled up into a grin. Before she said something stupid she turned around. A pang of happiness radiating through her chest as she walked. She had a feeling this interview would go well.

HI FANS! To those that have read some of my stories before it's been a while with pop ups here and there, hasn't it. To new comers, welcome! So I was working on other projects and this came into my head. Couldn't stop thinking about it so I stared to write it. Yes, the movie Obsessed with Beyonce gave me insporation! I will be putting my own spin on this though. Also, I'm hoping to make this a summer story and have it done by end of August, early September. Wish me luck! :)
