Eru Code 48 - A Lawgami Fluff Death Note fanfic with no slash.

Takes place during the Yotsuba arc.

Begin story:

Eru Lawliet was no ordinary person. Taking up a case where one could die at any moment was quite the risky move. Chaining yourself to your main suspect is even crazier. Eru just seemed to be surrounded by crazy. Of course, Eru was crazy too. Autism was the mental side of that, but the physical side was quite blatant: Spidery fingers (clinodactyly) and severe scoliosis (hunched spine) were quite noticable. Of course, Eru never looked in a mirror or cared about presentation, as was demonstrated by the To-Oh University frosh address. Eru never cared, because Kira was the main focus.

And that was the case for a while. But then something went horribly wrong, requiring medical intervention. It all started when Misa, Eru, and Light were fighting about Eru's depression. Eru's kick strength was enough to catapult Eru and Light across the room. However, unbeknownst to both until it was too late, Eru's kick resulted in Light hitting the wall and Eru landing on him. The task force members watching the two of them were aghast as they saw both youths fall unconscious from their impact into the wall. Misa tried to rouse them, only to recieve no response. She proceeded to scream for help, which Matsuda interpreted as the signal to press the button on his emergency belt, which called Watari. Watari asked "What seems to be the problem?". Matsuda immediately panicked as he said: "THIS IS AN EMERGENCY! Light and Eru just fought and now BOTH are unconscious!" Watari said: "Help is on the way. I am calling the room to coach Misa on emergency techniques for Light due to his impact."

While Misa tended to Light, Watari sent the other task force members to the room to arrange transportation of both youths into the emergency helicopter that Watari had called to the helicopter pad. Once that had been taken care of, Watari checked them into the hospital using the aliases he had given both youths. And then the waiting game began.

The spinal-injury physician was sent in to evaluate the situation. After a significant examination, it was concluded that Light would recover, but would be faced with mental trauma due to his concussion, resulting in amnesia towards past events. As for Eru, the results showed that landing ON Light prevented permanent mental trauma from happening, but the doctor explicitly recommended resting. The doctor had more to say regarding the fall: "One shoulder was broken as a result of the fall. Sadly, the bone setting needs to have very straight alignment to ensure proper healing."

Unfortunately, Eru's spine was severly curved, which made the situation messy. And then the doctor followed up with another bombshell: "The fight also caused trauma to the hands. The case of clinodactyly I am seeing here is a concerning factor in the healing of that hand."

After mulling it over, the doctor discussed it with Watari, before asking about the mental health of Eru. Watari said "From what I gather, autism was always something I noticed, and it is a defining characteristic. Also, my ward was taller (5 foot 10.5 inches, 179cm) before the onset of scoliosis started flaring up to the current level of curvature." The doctor grew very solemn, before wondering how to break the news to Watari out of fear that he might not understand other implications of the situation. After building up the courage to tell him, the biggest bombshell was dropped: "Your ward has a need to be tested for intersex conditions based on what I have found. A test will be administered shortly." A lab tech was summoned, and then the deed was done.

Fast forward a bit: Unbeknownst to everyone, Yotsuba's killings had been more reckless in the days that came during the healing process, Yotsuba blatantly killing rival businesspeople and then absorbing what they could. When Eru was allowed to wake up for visiting, Watari gave a laptop catch-up briefing on the news that was, to see if a new lead existed. Eru had noticed some connection, but while dazed it wasn't a good idea to deduce anything when it could be addled by the ordeal. The waiting game for Light's initial awakening took another day. When Light woke up, he was really hazy and conflicted inside. He still had the ability to deduce one of Watari's tests, but unbeknownst to anyone, there were traumatic deeper memories that were permanently forgotten as a result of the concussion. Soichiro offered his support, saying: "Light, my son, you will get through this", and Light welcomed his love, saying: "I know I said that I would avenge you if something happened to you. Well, it looks like you are doing the same thing for me, despite the turmoil you felt in that car with me and Misa. Thank you for that." The two hugged, before the nurse told him that visiting hours were over.

Unknown to Light was that Soichiro had popped a heart medicine in the helicopter after one of the paramedics noticed his pulse was not normal. He was put in a bed on the helicopter while the paramedics monitored his heart as the medicine was taking effect, telling him to rest. Once he got to the waiting room, he was ushered to one of the foamier chairs before recieving permission to call his family to check on Sayu as a happy distraction from the scenario unfolding in his wake.

The surgery for Eru and Light happened at the same time, and after Eru recovered from the surgery that was done to ensure proper healing, he was then given the other surgeries that depended on a straight bone alignment to heal. Light was given a neck brace and a wheelchair after his injuries, and Eru also recieved these, with both chairs to be connected by Watari once back in task force headquarters. Once both Eru and Light were conscious, Watari and Soichiro teamed up with the other task force members as part of a surprise gift to both of them. The gift involved a reasonable feast of healthy foods that Eru and Light liked, made of Strawberries aplenty. On the next day, the day that Eru and Light were given a clean bill of health, the lab results were given to Eru by Watari and the nurse. Eru was found to have 48XXYY/46XX Mosaic Klienfelter's, which meant that Eru had multiple sets of instructions, one of which was female. It also turned out that Eru's French ancestry hadn't actually existed beyond the English ancestry actually being Canadian French, and Eru actually being more Italian than French. Also, this set of circumstances resulted in Eru realizing things from wammy's house that they had locked away in their mind. They soon realized to themselves that they were not a boy named L Lawliet, but a feminine nonbinary person named Elle Lawliet as a tribute to their Italian heritage. Watari set things up so that this new discovery would help result in another backup alias that a hypothetical new Kira would be derailed by. After Elle and Light's return to the Task Force headquarters, a special room was given to them for recovery and work, with the condition that they not get physical or too tangibly involved in the case until further notice.

Afterwards, things were nice, and the two bonded in their recovery. Light had been using his work computer that Watari had installed in the room to go with Elle's, and then Light had noticed the trend in Yotsuba stocks VS non-Yotsuba stocks, as well as the increase in the tragedies affecting prominent Japanese company executives that weren't Yotsuba. Shortly after giving this information, Soichiro is called by Deputy Director Kitamura as part of the briefing about Kira's bribes to the NPA. Soichiro is then tasked to give the ultimatums to the other police officers in the task force, with the ultimatum happening over speakerphone due to the condition of Light warranting diligent watch by Soichiro. Mogi, Matsuda, and the Chief resign on the spot. On instinct, Watari offers the financial trust as well as the lodging rooms to Aizawa without telling Elle. Aizawa immediately hugs Watari and thanks him for allowing him to be able to honor Ukita by working for the task force to avenge his death by catching Kira. Aizawa ends up paying off his mortgage and debts as a means of insuring his family's financial security after the case. Wedy and Aiber are introduced to the task force as agents to be used for investigating Yotsuba, with Aizawa asking for Elle to prove their worth, which is tested when Wedy and Watari are asked to infiltrate the building, bug the rooms, and hijack the security, uncertain of the Yotsuba Kira's standing in the company. Aizawa then spent the time watching the feeds with Watari so that he would see Wedy's work bear fruit so he could trust her. When the Yotsuba death panel is caught by Aizawa, he thanks Wedy before expressing his trust for her. He then asks Elle to help prove Aiber's worth. Aiber is put into a situation where he poses as Eraldo Coil and then talks ensue via the building's secret phone line: "Aiber: Masahiko Kida, is this you? Kida: Yes. Who is this? Aiber: Eraldo Coil? Kida: What are you calling me for? Aiber: My terms are what we are discussing. 2 million dollars to keep what I know secret, and 3 million dollars on top of that if you want my help getting L off your back too. Kida: Say what? Aiber: What'll it be? Kida: We'll discuss this later, but this isn't a decline or accept. Aiber: That's fine. Kida: Talk to you later."

Yotsuba then holds their meeting. When Coil becomes the topic, Hatori remembers what Higuchi told Takahashi on the first meeting: "You have a lot to say considering how stupid you are. I'd hate to see you get killed because of it." Hatori bites his tongue and accepts the idea of paying Coil, hoping that L would not be an issue for much longer.

Of course, due to how blatant Yotsuba's killings were during the recovery of Elle, things were a bit ahead. The trends had happened during Elle's recovery, and thus the evidence was more blatant. Given how Elle wasn't in a state to move in on this case, Aizawa, Matsuda, and Mogi gave the tapes obtained via the Yotsuba security systems and the records of dead rival executives to Kitamura after a phone conversation from Aizawa as evidence of who bribed the NPA. After that, Kitamura arranged a sting arrest of the Yotsuba Group members, on charges of insider trading to cover up the real reason, before conducting an interrogation of all of the members, which eventually stalls until Kitamura gives in after talking to his superiors and allows Elle to do what is needed to find Kira amongst these 8, reinstating Aizawa, Mogi, Soichiro, and Matsuda after examining ALL the tapes and then realizing that the 8 were knowingly killing. While the 8 are in confinement, a warrant is served for the men's houses to be searched, with Aizawa and Mogi leading the raid. Higuchi's house was a puzzle to get in and was the last item on the list, and just when Aizawa was about to pack up, Mogi picks up the notebook and is scared yet composed. Once he opens it, after reading the rules, he deduces that it is the weapon. Back in the HQ building, he compares the names to the records, and then after the task force examines it, Elle is called in to investigate how the non-cardiac deaths played out compared to records. They recoil in shock before they get a chance to open it, dropping it in the process. Elle's other half, Light, asks what is wrong. Light picks up the notebook due to it being evidence that the ground would contaminate. It turned out that the amnesia that Light suffered permanently erased all of his memories of the Death Note in a way that the notebook was unable to fix. Misa touched the notebook, and when she saw Rem, Rem realized that the current situation with Light's permanent amnesia derailed the reclamation part of the plan he had, so to save Misa from the situation in question Rem waited until the coast was clear that night and then took the notebook back to the Shinigami Realm. Kira's killings stopped, and Misa returned to her life as a celebrity while helping Light through his journey to recovery. Elle was friends with both Light and Misa and continued to work on cases with Light, who went back to To-Oh and studied law before becoming a public defender as part of his duty to serve. Soichiro and Light went back to their family and the Yagami family became happier and lively. After 5 years, Elle ended up coaching their successors together with Light, who helped Mello realize that he was just as special as Near and Matt. Soichiro ended up getting to help with court cases he was involved in that his son was the public defender in. Elle became a team with Light and their successors. In the end, the fight led to better things for all involved parties. The story kept unfolding. It still unfolds today.
