Prologue:
There had been tensions between Johto and Sinnoh for years, it all started when Sinnoh was caught stealing information from Johto around a good 39 years ago. No one truly knows what sort of info, but from the way the Johto government reacted, it must have been top secret and very important. Many of the other regions grew suspicious. They began to think that Johto was creating a brand new weapon. But no one could confirm.
Galar tried asking Sinnoh what Johto was up to. But Sinnoh refused to tell the other regions. The Sinnoh government had signed the "Treaty of Silence". This made sure that they kept their mouth shut about the secrets they found out about Johto. If they broke that pact then Johto would wage war on Sinnoh, something Sinnoh could not afford at that moment.
But that was years ago, decades ago. No one has proof that that caused the troubles of today. Most think that was the case. But alas, people can only speculate.
But now those tensions have grown higher than ever. It all started when out of the blue Sinnoh bombed the Johto city of Blackthorn. It was a full on air raid. Thousands dead, people and pokemon. Johto officials were enraged. The people of Johto demanded blood, they demanded war, and they got it.
On June 8th, 2132... the Johto and Sinnoh war had begun.
The other six regions were neutral in the beginning. Sinnoh had asked for help from its closest friend and ally, the Hoenn region.
The Hoenn region had said a firm no, but Johto still saw Hoenn as a threat, they feared that Hoenn's exports could aid their enemy in the war. They sent 22 fighter jets with 45 bombs each to one of Hoenn's cities, Petalburg. There were major casualties, an enraged Hoenn government, and enraged Hoenn citizens (Hoenneers). And with that, on July 19th, the Hoenn region entered the war, siding with Sinnoh.
Johto realized it messed up bad…. Like real bad. They turned towards Kalos and Unova for help. Kalos had put spys near the Sinnoh military base to protect the region from the corrupt region's plans. Their spies overheard Sinnoh's plan of bombing the Kalosian city of Lumiose. On August 23rd Kalos and Johto finally became allies. Unova chose to stay neutral.
Kanto wanted to stay neutral but when Sinnoh stormed Cerulean, Pewter, and Viridian city (the reason why is still unknown, the reason for many bombings is unknown) they had no choice but to join the war. It was made official on October 2nd, 2132. Kalos, Kanto, and Johto v.s Sinnoh and Hoenn.
You may think that that is where the trouble ends, but no. One simple mistake from Johto and another from Sinnoh turned this war upside down, it turned this war in a direction absolutely no one thought it would go.
On November 30th, Johto bombed the Alolan island of Akala. The entire island was turned to rubble. The people of Alola were outraged, so were Unova and Kalos. Those two regions depended heavily on lots of exports from Alola. An enraged Kalos prime minister pointed this out to John McClelan, the prime minister of Johto. McClelan brushed it aside stating that Johto could provide Kalos with those exports. Although both knew very well that some of those exports can only be provided by Alola. The Kalos prime minister stormed out of the conference room. The Kalos prime minister and the other Kalos officials left the Johto region the very next day.
Alola wanted to at first side with Sinnoh and Hoenn, but after some debate they concluded that both of those regions were rather deceitful. Although, Sinnoh seemed to have a different idea. They bombed half of Melemele Island. The decision Alola made after that shocked the world. They waged war on BOTH Johto and Sinnoh. Both regions were not too worried about Alola, until it began to get allies. First Unova joined since they both had a close friendship. Then Unova convinced Galar to side with them.
Then out of the blue, Kalos left the Kanto and Johto alliance and joined the Alola, Unova, and Galar alliance.
The Kanto and Johto called themselves the Ethereal Powers, Hoenn and Sinnoh called themselves the Cogent Powers, and Alola, Galar, Unova, and Kalos called themselves the Vindictive Powers.
As soon as the entire world participated in the war, Ash Ketchum and many other people knew that that was the beginning to a very long, and very hard three way World War.
