BookShipper13: aw, thank you! Yeah, I was trying to make Jamie not steal all of Sophie's lines and whatnot, but also do things, too, so I'm glad you think that! And oh, I have big plans for those three~... Thanks for reviewing!

KOTLC3: (1) really? That sounds interesting. What's it called? (2) I totally agree. I mean, I also like Jafitz, though... No, the purpose of the poll is totally not to help me not make a decision... That would be preposterous... :). Thanks forthe reviewing!

Recap: I embarrassed myself in front of Biana, and succeeded spectacularly in alchemy. My day was full of opposites.

ONTO THE NEXT CHAPTER!

"How was your first session?" Dex asked as he handed Sophie a tray and made room for her in the lunch line. Jamie smiled bitterly at the thoughtful gesture; bitterly, because Dex forgot about her.

Thankfully, some merciful elven boy took pity on her and allowed her to skip him and stand behind Sophie. She grinned at him, saying gratefully, "Thank you!"

The guy smiled back. "Don't worry. I know how embarrassing and pathetic it is to be alone in the line. So, the least I can do is prevent someone else from the same fate."

Jamie opened her mouth, then closed it, because what was she supposed to say in such a situation?

Something shockingly blunt, because she was Jamie. "...You're always alone?"

The guy blinked. "How did you know that?"

"You basically just told me," Jamie stated matter-of-factly.

His gaze became pensive, and he looked past her blankly. "Yeah... I guess I did..."

After at least thirty seconds, Jamie waved her hand in front of his face.

He didn't move.

"O...kay?" Jamie mumbled to herself before turning back to Sophie and Dex, slightly unnerved.

"Oh! Jamie." Dex laughed nervously. "I didn't realize you were here."

"How can you forget one of your only two friends?" Jamie asked, faking offense.

"Sorry—Hey! I have other friends!"

"Like who? Fitz? Stina?" Jamie teased.

"Like—Like—Like Glynn!" He roughly grabbed the shoulders of the nice—but creepily unresponsive—boy. "Glynn, we're friends, right?"

Glynn continued staring at nothing.

"E-Eh? Aren't we?"

He didn't respond.

"I think that's a no," Jamie said between snickers. Sophie looked mildly concerned. Dex slumped.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" Sophie asked Dex, changing the conversation. "I thought you had detention?"

"I still have to eat," he grumbled, filling his tray with brightly colored foods. "Sorry I got detention on your first days. Will you guys be all right without me?"

"Of course!" Jamie grinned and slung an arm over Sophie's shoulder, careful to not shake her too much. "We have each other!"

Sophie pushed her away.

That should've been a a warning that each other would not be enough. Of course it wouldn't; Jamie was in Keeper of the Lost Cities, not My Little Pony. But Jamie didn't realize this until she realized she had no where to sit.

She could sit by Fitz, but... Fitz was Fitz. Besides, Biana was right next to him; she couldn't sit at the same table as Biana, now could she? She broke rules, not social hierarchies.

But apparently, odd boys were her saviors that day, because some dude with curly brown hair rushed over to Sophie. And Jamie, too, somewhat, because she was right next to Jamie. But she didn't know the boy, so he couldn't have been coming towards her.

Actually, she did know him: He was Jensi Babblos, a fellow second year.

It was sort of creepy how she knew things about everyone, but it wasn't like she could tell anyone, so she'd have to settle for complaining in her head.

"Hey, my friends and I have a table—it's only guys—and most of them are pretty lame—but you can totally sit with us—Oh, hi!—I'm Jensi!"

Jensi spoke like he had a super high. It was strange, to say the least. Jamie didn't mind, though.

She grinned. "I'm Jamie."

When Jensi called his friends lame, Jamie knew that they'd be lame. Not because she thought Jensi's judgement was as amazing as mallowmelt, but because she remembered them. They were the drooly boys.

But Jamie couldn't exactly refuse—especially not after Sophie agreed. But she kind of wished she did. They stared like they had never seen a girl before; one even drooled. But the worst part?

They only stared at Sophie.

They didn't even glance at Jamie, which was sort of rude and a huge blow to her ego. It wasn't that she wanted their attention, but when absolutely desperate guys didn't even glance at her, she couldn't help but feel offended.

But Jamie ignored that, because she was an independent woman who did not need a man's attention to make her feel significant!

She doubted anyone would be able to tell her thoughts from her sulky expression, though.

Even Jensi was pissed. "Sorry," he mumbled to Sophie as he set his tray down with a bang. "C'mon, guys. I said be cool!"

"Sorry, dude." The Drooly Boys had the decency to look ashamed.

Then, after a second, they went back to staring at Sophie—and only Sophie, because Jamie was apparently that hideous.

Jensi sighed, a depressed sound that matched Jamie's feelings instantly. "So, how was the E?"

Jamie found herself ignoring the conversation (not really; she caught little snippets of it, and all she heard was an unhealthy amount of "dudes"), feeling a little salty. She looked around the grand lunch room. Glynn was still staring at nothing. Biana was gossiping with some dark-skinned girl. Some blonde guy was laughing rambunctiously at something Fitz said. Jamie felt like throwing something at him because A, he was enjoying himself while Jamie was being treated like some random extra (and she didn't even have Saiki Kusuo* to defend her! Wait, could she even read manga anymore?), and B, he had to have a really weird sense of humor because he was laughing at something Fitz said, and Fitz wasn't even that funny.

But then a really pretty girl came, and she didn't ignore Jamie!

She had big icy eyes and braids twisted into her long blond hair, and a pixie-like frame. She seemed kind of cool, but cool like Janis Ian from Mean Girls, and not cool like Biana.

This was Marella Redek, and was Jamie's first girl-savior of the day!

*Saiki Kusuo is the main character from the anime/manga The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. If you like manga and anime, then I highly recommend it! If you don't like manga and anime, I still highly recommend it.
