My Hero Academia: The Amazing Spi-Deku
My name is Izuku Midoriya, for most of my life, I was just a Quirkless boy with dreams of being a Hero like my Idol All Might. But I was told without a Quirk, I can't be a Hero. Then I met All Might, inherited his Quirk and became the Greatest Hero in the World...But before that, I got bit by a spider and now, I can crawl on walls…not how I imagined getting superpowers.
Episode XI: Festival Prep
The Incident at the USJ was finally over, the police were rounding up the rest of the would-be villains, and the U.A. Staff were organising the rest of the class to get them home safe and sound. At the moment, however, Izuku Midoriya, Toshinori Yagi and Recovery Girl were in the nurse's office as Izuku had gone over what happened during his fight with Nomu and how his new powers reacted strangely.
"...And then next thing I knew, I sent that Nomu thing flying. I can't really describe it, but it was almost like…I blasted him with... 'electricity' I guess?" Izuku asked as Toshinori hummed to himself.
"Your powers are getting stranger and stranger by the day, Young Midoriya," Toshinori said with a head shake, still trying to grasp the situation.
"Do you think this is something that comes with One for All?" he asked as Toshinori shook his head.
"I don't know. In all the time I possessed One for All, I was never able to stun my opponent with anything other than a good punch to the stomach. But from the way you explained it, I believe One for All may be affecting your Spider Powers," he tried to surmise.
"Is that possible?" Izuku asked as Toshinori shrugged.
"Theoretically, yes. Normally when One for All is given to someone with a Quirk, it gives their Quirk a significant boost in power. I however didn't have a Quirk, so all I got was Super Human Abilities from the power of Seven Generations of Former Users. But for you, It's doing something with your Quirk,"
"Maybe because his Quirk is somewhat unstable?" Recovery girl chimed in after she finished healing the boy's injuries as the boy's ribs were repaired. "Remember, this Quirk was given by a spider that was part of a larger unknown experiment. Because we don't have any form of data on the test subject, there are bound to be unforeseen side effects or changes to your ever-growing power, not to mention how One for All will affect them down the line," she said as Izuku nodded.
"Makes sense, first the Invisibility from before I had One for All, and then this electric blast that came after it? Seems like every time I get closer to controlling my powers, the less I know about them," he said as Toshiniori chuckled.
"Welcome to the real world kid," he said before he turned serious. "Now, there's something else I need to talk to you about, and no doubt Aizawa is going to grill you when he recovers. Your teacher gave you clear instructions not to interfere with his battle, but you did so anyway. Putting yourself in grave danger because of it, which is highly reckless…" Toshinori said as Izuku suddenly shuddered at the thought. He was already on thin ice with the strict teacher, he just hoped he hadn't cracked the surface and got himself expelled.
"But if I'm going to be honest…" Toshinori said as Izuku looked up to the man that smiled. "I'm proud of you, you showed your strength today. And not just your super strength, but your strength of character. And I am all the more proud of you for it," he said as Izuku stared at his mentor before nodding with a happy smile.
"Thank you, All Might," he said as the Number One Hero smiled back. "By the way, how is Aizawa and Thirteen?" he asked, as All Might sighed.
"Aizawa came out with only a broken arm, and from what we could tell some serious lacerations to said arm from that user's Quirk. But all things considered, he's lucky it's not more serious. Thirteen however had lacerations on her upper arms and back. But from what I heard she's stable and should make a full recovery," All Might said.
"That's good…" Izuku said with a sigh of relief.
"Honestly, Aizawa got off lucky if you ask me. Who knows what could've happened if you hadn't stepped in, Midoriya." Recovery Girl interrupted as she nodded to the boy.
"That being said, normally I would reprime you for putting yourself in unnecessary danger. But given the circumstances, I'll let it slide for now," she said as she moved her chair. "But for now, I suggest you take it easy. You and your class have been through a harrowing experience well above your year level. Take the time to relax and process the events. And don't go testing your new powers just yet, I want to conduct a proper test when school starts back up on Monday." she advised as Izuku nodded.
"Understood," he said as he got up. "I probably need to reassure Mum and Eri that I'm okay, no doubt they'd be worried sick if she's been informed by the police," he said as he could already imagine his mother's hysterical face worrying about him.
"Indeed, I'll call you later Young Midoriya," All Might said as Izuku nodded and left the Infirmary.
"...That was too close," he suddenly said, as the Recovery Girl looked at him. "If Midoriya wasn't as strong, or if I had been a few seconds late…" he said as he held a look of regret and contempt for himself.
"You can't blame yourself for this, Toshinori," Recovery Girl said as she sorted her documents. "This was something no one could've predicted. None of us could've foreseen someone making their way past U.A's Barrier. We're just lucky none of the students was seriously injured, and thanks to your protegee, Aizawa came out with far fewer injuries than he would've gotten otherwise." she said as Toshinori nodded slightly.
"Still, I should've been there on time. But I wasted my time beforehand, and the students nearly suffered for it," he said with contempt to himself.
"Indeed," Nezu said as he appeared at the doorway. "You do need to be more careful with your time limit, but we also can't always rely on you to come to the rescue every time. That is the point of training your successor," the Mouse/Bear Principal said. "But, given how the students were able to repel the invasion, I feel more confident that this generation of Heroes will be more than up to the task when the Symbol of Peace retires," he said as All Might nodded.
"Still…that thing Midoriya faced…there's something about it I don't like." He remembered watching the Nomu being carted off in heavy restraints, staring at its crazed eyes. "From what Young Todoroki gathered it was supposedly Designed to combat me at my 100 per cent. If that is the case…I have a dark feeling about all this, one I desperately hope isn't true…" All Might said as he had a dark thought of an enemy long since passed.
Later that Night - Midoriya Residence
"I was so scared Izuku!" Inko exclaimed as she, Eri and Izuku sat around the dinner table. "When the School called and told me what happened, I nearly had a panic attack!" Inko recounted how she nearly passed out from hearing about the USJ Incident. "And poor Eri! She was worried sick about her brother!" She motioned to Eri that sat closer to Izuku than usual.
"I'm sorry mum, honestly it wasn't something anyone could've seen coming. But the teachers were able to handle it, and no one got hurt badly. Plus you know I have a healing factor, so anything that could've happened to me, I could walk off later on-"
"That's not the point Izuku!" his mother shouted as the boy flinched. "I know it's your dream to become a Hero, and I want to support you! But… after hearing about what happened…I just got so worried…you and Eri are the only things I care about in this world. If I had lost either of you I-I…" Tears started to form as Izuku now realised what Ochako was talking about.
"...I'm…I'm sorry mum…" he placed a comforting hand on hers. "I know it was probably just as scary hearing about it. If I'm honest I was just as terrified…But I promise that I'll be fine," he said in his attempt to comfort her. "It's not like when I was a kid, I'm stronger now. I can be a Hero. And I Thank you for supporting me, even though I know you worry about me. I love you, Mum," he said as Inko managed to wipe the tears from her eyes.
"I love you too, Izuku…'' She then turned to Eri as the youngest Midoriya had small tears herself. She gestured to Eri as the young child hugged her surrogate mother, and brother, as the Midoriya comforted themselves.
It was by no means disrupting the doubts that lingered in Inko's mind about her son's future. But it did help comfort her that her son was here right now, safe and sound. And now with Eri as her daughter, she wouldn't be alone anymore. Either of them.
Same time - U.A. Academy
Meanwhile, the gathered teachers of the Blood Hero: Vlad King, Snipe, Midnight, Nezu and All Might in his shrunken form as Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi stood before them reading out the report on the incident.
"So far we've uncovered nothing on the name 'Shigaraki' or anyone that was registered with a 'Disintegration Quirk' around the ages of 20 or 30. The same with Warp-Gate users. Either they were never picked up by the census, or they were just aliases used for the attack. But for all intents and purposes, they are those that managed to evade registration." Tsukauchi listed off his report as the teachers nodded.
"So all in all, we've got nothing to go on?" Snipe basically summarised. "The ring leader managed to get away, if we had arrived earlier I could've injured one of them at least, buy us some time," Snipe lamented being late for the invasion.
"No one could have foreseen this coming Snipe, and we're lucky that none of the students managed to get hurt or worse. All things considered, I think we lucked out." Midnight comforted, as Nexu nodded.
"Indeed, Aizawa's injuries weren't as severe as they could've been, and 13 should recover shortly after. But this is something we cannot allow to repeat, so I'm having Powerloader and the Support Department increase our early warning detections and security, the safety of the students is our top priority," the principal said as All Might nodded.
"Still it was a good thing that Young Midoriya was able to take down that Nomu creature before I arrived. It made mopping up the rest a breeze, whatever he did to the Villian seemed to have caused him to stop moving altogether." All Might praised, feeling a sense of pride in his student.
"I heard about that, that is one interesting student. Invisibility, Super Strength, Wall Crawling and now this…Electric Blast? It's almost like this kid could be a one-man army," Vlad said as he somewhat cursed the fact the young man wasn't put in his class.
"From the reports we got, whatever Izuku Midoriya did to the villain called Nomu, seemed to well…destabilise him? Not to mention this Nomu seemed to not do anything else when Shigaraki left. And the strange thing is, so far we've detected multiple Quirks within Nomu's body," Tsukauchi said as he looked over the medical reports. "
"Multiple Quirks? I've heard of people being born with Quirks that have dual functions, but multiple, that must be a mistake?" Midnight asked as All Might had a dark thought.
"In either case, this attack was… bizarre. No rational person would dare attempt a full-on assault on the U.A. even if they had meticulous preparation. From the reports we got from the students, and the teachers present, this Shigaraki character seemed to mention nothing of his own Quirk but kept boasting that no one could beat Nomu and their plan to kill me. And from what Aizawa mentioned, when things didn't go as planned, he started to act visibly upset. If I had to sum up his character I'd say he was a spoiled little brat…A 'Man Child' so to speak," All Might guessed as Vlad raised a brow.
"So he's just a kid with incredible power and no disciple in how to use it," Vlad said as Midnight looked concerned.
"Perhaps he never got the counselling most children received in Elementary School," Midnight suggested as Snipe shook his head.
"Maybe so, but it doesn't matter. He knew what he was doing, and has become a criminal," Snipe said as Tsukauichi held up his report.
"Still this 'Man Child' managed to recruit 72 villains into his 'League of Villains' for this daring attack. From our reports, all of the 72 are low-level thugs, not a mastermind behind any of them. It's reasonable to deduce that because of how hard we've been cracking down on them, they were able to fall behind such simple-minded villainy," Tsukauchi deduced.
'There are a ton of people that don't know how to use their Quirks, and sometimes resort to villainy. It makes me wonder what would've happened if Midoriya and I never met, and he got bitten by that spider…Nah, he'd still walk the Hero's path. It's not in him to fall like that,' All Might thought.
"But in any case, it's thanks to your efforts that we're able to conduct this investigation. We'll continue our efforts and expand our investigation to try and find the perpetrators of this attack," Tsukauchi said as Nezu hummed in thought.
"A Man Child…in a way, he's like our students. They both have so much potential, and I suppose that there may be someone that could be nurturing and guiding his malice," Nezu theorised as All Might didn't like the sound of that.
"I don't even want to think about what that could mean…" All Might thought bitterly as his old wound ached.
Saturday - Warehouse
Izuku and All Might were zipping around the room with Full Cowl bursting from his body, as he and All Might were attempting to have the young Midoriya summon the same Electrical Attack he used against the Nomu. However, wanting to do something and doing it are two different things.
All Might moved with unnatural speed as he and Midoriya clashed in mid-air. All Might had restricted himself to only 50% of his true power, while Izuku went all out with 20%. Seeing as his Spider Enhanced Strength was palpable to All Might at 30%. Izuku managed to block his lowest-level punch and went in for a haymaker himself. Only at the time, he was trying to create another electrical blast.
The fist connected with All Mights' forearm, and the Pro-Hero easily managed to tank the low-level attack. Low for All Mights that is, as he jumped back from the attack when he saw the boy's arms spark up like before. Only as he went to strike again, the blow was the same as last time. No electrical blast.
All Might skidded back from the boy's punch as they both took a moment to catch their breath, having been going at it for several hours.
"How was that, did you feel anything that time?" All Might asked as Izuku shook his head.
"...No, I still didn't feel like what I did at the USJ," Izuku sighed as he cut off One for All. "I still don't exactly know how it happened in the first place. I thought it was similar to when I absorbed Kaminari's lightning, but this one was different. It was like I was supercharged by a car battery. If I considered One for All as being an Egg in a Microwave…then this would be like trying to get a Defibrillator to charge up by hand. Does that make sense?" he asked as All Might had to resist laughing and turned back into his skinny form.
"Sort of, boy you sure come up with some lame analogies don't ya kid?" he said with some amusement as Izuku pouted at his mentor.
"All Might…"
"But relax, remember what I said when you got your powers? It takes time to master them, this is just one more on your path to becoming a hero. And from what I've seen, I know you can do it," he said with full pride in his voice as Izuku smiled at his mentor.
"Thank you, All Might," Izuku said as both mentor and mentee relished this moment of peace.
"In any case, what do you plan to call this new power of yours?" All Might asked as Izuku pondered.
"Well…I've been thinking about calling it… 'Venom Blast', what do you think?" he asked as All Might raised a brow.
"Venom Blast?"
"Yeah, when I fought that Nomu guy, he didn't seem to be able to get up after I punched him. And when I did my initial research on Spider Species, I noted that their Neurotoxic Venom has paralytical properties. And seeing as Nomu was practically paralysed from my attacks and it sort of was…well…blasted? I thought, why not call it Venom Blast?" he said as All Might nodded.
"Hmm…I like it, it sounds catchy. Any side effects you should be worried about though? As Recovery Girl said, we still need to be careful about your powers and how One for All may affect them." he cautioned as Izuku nodded.
"Well, other than seemingly making me more resistant to electrical attacks, I don't think there are many negative side effects. Not on my person anyway. My gear, however…" he pointed to the workshop table where his Web shooter and Gym Uniform were. "I noticed that the discharge burns my suit a little, and completely overloaded my Web Shooters again. Just something else I need to talk to the Support department about, can't have my gear being shorted out by my powers now, can I?" he said as he mentally started going over the types of insulation his suit would need.
"Indeed, I'm glad to see you once again put just as much thought into your abilities as you do your Heroics." All Might said as Izuku nodded.
"Well, I wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for you All Might," he said as the Number 1 Hero stared at the young man.
"...No young Midoriya…all I did was give you a push in the right direction. Everything from then on has been your own will and determination. I couldn't be any more proud of you," he said as Izuku felt a sense of pride from his mentor's words. "Now then…" All Might said before he buffed up.
"Let's get back to training, Young Midoriya! The day is still young and we may just figure out this 'Venom Strike' of yours yet!" All Might declared as Izuku nodded and channelled Full Cowl over his body with a determined grin.
"Yes sir!"
"I knew it!" they suddenly heard as they snapped to the entrance as the Recovery Girl stood there with a pissed-off look.
"R-Recovery Girl!" All Might and Izuku yelled in shock before she brought her cane down on top of their heads.
"I thought I told you two not to experiment till I ran a test on Monday! Did those battles knock your hearing loose or something!?" she yelled at the pair that was backing off from the short woman.
"I-It's not like that Recovery Girl! M-Midoriya had this sudden idea to trigger his new power and wanted to test it!" All Might tried to explain as Izuku nodded.
"Y-Yeah! I had this idea and I wanted to try it out, but I promise we were being careful!" Izuku managed to squeak out as the elderly heroine glared at the pair.
"Unbelievable! You two were meant for each other! You've got the same self-destructive tendencies that are going to put me in an early grave!" she yelled as she spent the next hour repriming the two for their reckless stunt.
'Well…at least she shows she cares?' All Might and Izuku thought as they kneel before the angry little woman. The woman just sighed and massaged her forehead.
"I'm getting too old for this, just…just make sure you don't go overboard and for god's sake don't try and electrocute yourself! I've got paperwork to fill out!" she said and then left the warehouse.
"..." All Might and Izuku stared at the door, then at each other, and then at the jumper cables that they had planned to use.
"Let's uh…let's call it a day?" All Might said as Izuku nodded.
"Yes sir,"
Around that same time - Yamanashi Prefecture
Meanwhile, at a shabby-looking building in the Yamanashi Prefecture, a little old man was opening a letter that had been addressed to him, while the news report about the USJ Incident played in the background.
Greetings, the air is warm here, so it looks like summer is around the corner. I hope this letter finds you in good health and better spirits, sir. I'm sorry for not contacting you in a while, but with my Hero work, I've been plenty busy. This semester I took a teaching position at U.A. Academy…but I guess you already know that by now. Now it's my turn to guide the newest students on the path of Heroism. Initially, I was going to use this position as a chance to scout a potential successor for One for All. Someone with good test scores and a powerful Quirk…funny enough, before I could even look, I met a Young Man. Named Izuku Midoriya.
Even though he was weak, and had no Quirk of his own, he rushed headfirst into a situation that made the pro-heroes and myself hesitate just to save the life of one of his classmates. He may not have had a plan, but he knew he had to do something. He proved to me that he has the virtues of a True Hero, and reminded me of what it is a strived to be a Pro-hero. So I told him my secret and decided to give him my Quirk.
However, there was a slight…unexpected development. You wouldn't believe this, but before I gifted him One for All, he got superpowers from a Spider bite. It's bizarre I know, but with it, he has developed and gained significant control of One for All faster than I initially expected. He's also gotten himself into his fair share of trouble since getting the Quirk. Such as saving a little girl from the Remnants of the Yakuza. A story I shall recount for you later.
He still has a long way to go, and his newer powers may develop in ways I can't begin to imagine. I may need to call upon you for assistance and guidance. I will continue to keep you updated, but until then please take care of yourself as the Seasons Change.
Sincerely Toshinori Yagi
"Hmm…so he found someone to pass the mantle of One for All? Izuku Midoriya…" the retired hero muttered to himself as he read the letter over and over again. "Gaining Super Powers from a Spider bite, well now that's new… Well, Toshinori seems to vouch for him, but I guess I'll need to judge him myself. Still, I wonder how you would've reacted to all this, Nana? You'd get a good laugh I can guess that much," he looked up to the ceiling as he smirked.
"Well Izuku Midoriya, let's find out what makes you special?"
Monday Morning - U.A. Academy - Class 1A
After the Police had finished their investigation, the students were allowed to come back to school. During the small long weekend, Izuku tried once again to summon his new 'Venom Blast' powers. But just like with the invisibility, it wasn't as simple as flicking on a light switch. But then again, it was a challenge that Izuku was keen on discovering. There was also a lot to do on his list for costume improvements, thanks to the new revelation on his Venom Blast, and now he had the chance to voice them to Mei and Power Loader.
"Morning Deku," Ochako greeted as she ran up to Deku in the hall. "How are you feeling today? I'm sorry I didn't check up on you, but the police had to escort me home," she said as Izuku nodded.
"Morning Uraraka, and don't worry about it. They pretty much escorted me home as well. But yeah I'm feeling a lot better. Told you that my body has a healing factor, so I was pretty much healed by the time we left the school." Izuku said as he rolled his arm around to prove his point.
"That's a relief," she said as Izuku smiled at her concern.
"By the way…you were right," he said as she blinked in confusion. "When I got home, Mum and my sister were pretty worried about me. I understand what you meant now, it's not just about me anymore…I need to be more careful, thank you," he said as she smiled at him.
"No problem, Deku…hey, how about we trade phone numbers? That way we can contact each other if anything happens?" she asked as Izuku blinked before blushing red.
"U-Uh s-sure, no problem!" he said with a slight panic in his voice, 'I'm getting a girl's phone number! So cool!' he thought as the two exchanged emails. Little did they know a certain pink-skinned girl was watching from a distance as she grinned at the pair.
"Ship ahoy," she whispered to herself as she giggled at the pair. Soon the rest of Class 1-A made it to their classroom, and Izuku moved to sit down in his seat before he flinched at the glare Bakugo was giving him.
"Morning Kacchan," Izuku said, as Bakguo just glared.
"Deku, I heard you were the one that beat that birds face looking thing," he said as Izuku blinked
'Bird Face?... Oh right, Nomu…he kind of did look like a bird…I guess?' Izuku thought as Bakugo merely growled.
"Don't think you're better than me. If I had made it on time, I would've blown that walking meathead into a pulp," he said as he crossed his arms. "Still, I've got plenty more questions for you, like this 'Green Lightning' I heard from the others. How many more secrets are you hiding nerd?" Bakguo growled as Izuku sighed.
'You have no idea Kacchan,' Izuku thought to himself as he sat down. "To be honest, that was new even to me. And I don't think I'm better than you, I've still got a long way to go…and so do you," he said as Bakugo felt a blood vessel on his head, before clicking his tongue and looking away.
"All right everyone!" Ida yelled from the front. "It's time for the morning period! Everyone take your seats!" he ordered as he stood before the class.
"Dude, we're already in our seats. You're the only one that's not," Sero pointed out as Ida grumpily made his way to his.
"Curses!" he said as Uraraka patted him on the shoulder.
"There, there…" she said as she did her best to comfort Mister 'takes things way too seriously' Ida Tenya.
"Still, I wonder who will be teaching our class, with Aizawa-Sensei in the hospital and all," Tsuyu asked with a finger on her chin. Suddenly the door opened and Aizawa stood there with his arm in a sling and cast.
"Everyone be quiet," Aizawa said as he made his way to the podium.
"Aizawa sensei!" the class shouted.
"Um, sir, shouldn't you still be in the hospital?" Kirishima asked as the man gestured to his arm.
"My injuries weren't as severe as they could've been. The only reason Recovery Girl hasn't fully healed it yet is that she's focused on helping Thirteen. I don't have that much stamina. That being said…Midoriya," he said, turning his gaze to Izuku who flinched at the man's gaze. "I distinctly recall telling all of you not to get involved during my fight. You put yourself in unnecessary danger," he said as Izuku nodded.
"Yes sir," he admitted.
"I was planning to lecture you, reprimand you for getting involved when I distinctly told you all not to…but I've been informed multiple times by Recovery Girl that my injuries would've been a lot more severe had you not interfered. So for now I'll let you off with a warning, but I do not want a repeat of this, clear?" Aizawa demanded as Izuku shrugged.
"Given my track record, I can't promise that sir," he admitted as Aizawa sighed. It was too early in the morning for this.
"In any case, I'm aware all of you have been through a harrowing experience but I feel like I need to remind you that your real battle is about to begin," he said as the class got nervous. "The U.A. Sports Festival is coming up,"
"OH YEAH! THIS IS A SCHOOL!" The class shouted by instantly shutting up when Aizawa glared at the class.
The U.A Sports Festival was one of the biggest events in Japan, where the entire U.A student body from Heroic to the Support Department would compete in a series of games to show off their unique Quirks and abilities. In the days of old, this would've been similar to the Olympic Games, but due to the growing percentage of Quirk users, it lost a lot of its lustre. So each country's schools hosted their own Sports festivals, with U.A. being Japan's number one sporting event.
"Mister Aizawa, isn't it a little soon to host the Sports Festival, especially after the recent villain attack?" Jiro asked as Ojiro nodded.
"They could attack so many people in one place," Ojiro added as Aizawa nodded.
"The Administration thinks this is the best way to let the public know that the situation is under control. Not to mention this year security will be increased in response to this, so it's highly unlikely another Villain Incident will occur. But also this is an opportunity for the students. As you all know major hero agencies, top tier Heroes and scouting agents will be watching this event, so this will be one of the only three chances you get to be noticed by the Hero Community during your class years." Aizawa explained as he all noticed the determination, and fear in Mineta's case, as they all were ready to get themselves noticed.
"B-But what if Villains do show up, is it that worth it!?" Mineta asked with a trembling voice, to which Izuku turned to him.
"It'll be fine, this Festival is important, you do want to be noticed right?" Izuku asked as Mineta nodded.
"I-I know! But still!"
"We cannot afford to let this opportunity go to waste, if we want to become Pro-Heroes we must be willing to take the risk!" Momo interrupted with a determined look on her face.
"Yeah unless you're dead…" Mineta mopped, as Kaminari raised his hand.
"I heard some of the participants that get spotted end up becoming sidekicks at agencies after graduation. So this is a really good opportunity for us," Kaminari said as Jiro nodded.
"Yeah, but I hear that sometimes people remain as a sidekick for their entire careers because they missed out…I guess you fit the bill for that part, what with you being dumb and all?" Jiro said as Kaminari flinched at that jab.
"Joining a famous Hero Agency will garner you a lot of experience and popularity points, which is why the Sports Festival is vital," Aizawa said as he looked out to the class. "So, If you want to break into the industry and become a Pro-Hero, this is your opportunity. One chance this year, three chances in a lifetime, no aspiring Hero can afford to miss out on this opportunity. That means no one should slack off on their training, clear?"
"Yes sir!" they all shouted as Izuku nodded in determination as he looked at his hand and the budding power that he had discovered.
Later, after the end of the Fourth Period, the students of Class 1-A began to talk about the U.A. Sports Festival and their plan to make it.
"Man, I knew this was coming…but now I'm feeling the tension! If we want to make it to the big leagues, we really have to give it our all!" Kirishima said as he felt pumped up for the event.
"This could be our big chance to make it into the Hero's League!" Sero said as he and the more excitable students gathered around.
"I'm nervous! I have to try really hard to get noticed!" Toru shouted as she jumped around in excitement.
"...especially for you," Ojiro said as he felt somewhat sorry for the invisible girl.
"I can't help but stand out, no matter what I do~ That means the scouts won't be able to take their eyes off me~," Aoyama said with a sparkle and a twirl. But everyone ignored him.
"Man, you are so lucky, Shiro. Everyone is bound to notice you with your Quirk," Kaminari said to the multiarmed boy, who looked at his appendages.
"True, but what really matters is showing everyone how useful I can be," Shoji said as Jiro started to laugh.
"It's true, and you can't help yourself when you overuse your Quirk and end up like that," Jiro laughed as she remembered his derp face during both the Battle trial and the USJ Invasion.
"Man! Why do you gotta dis me like that!?" Kaminari shouted in despair.
"Still, I believe the harder ones to compete against will be Todoroki, Bakugo and you Midoriya," Momo said as Izuku blinked.
"Me?" he asked with confusion.
"Yeah, man! Your powers are like a total hack or something! First Invisibility and now Electric powers!? Are you trying to become a one-man army or something!?" Kaminari asked as Bakugo growled at the mention of Deku's new power.
"Honestly, your guess is as good as mine," he chuckled nervously. "But still, now that I have these new Electric powers, I have to focus on controlling them," he said as looked at his hand. "But nothing worth having ever comes easy, right?" he asked as he got a nod from some of the other students.
"At Least you're taking it more seriously than others, eh Mister 'Whee'?" Jiro smirked as the Lightning boy cringed.
"Hey, not cool!"
"Deku…Ida…" Both Ida and Izuku heard as they turned and flinched at the intimidating aura surrounding Ochako's body, her face set in a serious expression. "Let's give it our all!"
"Uraraka!?" Ida and Izuku screamed in shock as Jiro leaned back.
"And there's someone that's really taking it seriously," she said as Mina nodded.
"...Maybe she's PM-!" Mineta only managed to get out before Tsuyu slapped him across the face with her tongue and Deku was considering using his web-shooters to stick him to the wall. Ochako then snapped to the rest of the class, her eyes dead set determined as she raised her fist.
"Everyone! Let's crush the Sports Festival!" she proclaimed as they raised their fists hesitantly at the normally cheerful girl showing a rather intense fierceness. Izuku smiled as he joined in the fun.
'Huh…you know, now that I think about it, I never did ask why Uraraka wants to be a Hero?' Izuku pondered as he looked upon his first friend since arriving at U.A.
Later - LunchTime
"Eh? For money? You want to be a Hero for Money!?" Ida and Izuku shouted in shock as Ochako scratched the back of her head embarrassingly.
"I know, it's kind of lame to want to be a Hero just for the money. And when I hear about how Ida and you Deku want to be Heroes for Ideals and stuff, it makes me embarrassed to admit it," she said with an embarrassed expression.
"Nonsense! There is nothing 'Lame' about pursuing an easier lifestyle!" Ida replied as Izuku nodded.
"Yeah, there's nothing to be ashamed about," Izuku tried to assure as Ochako nodded.
"I know, but you see…my family owns a construction company, and sometimes I help out. But the thing is…we're kind of poor. Neither my parents nor our employees don't have the necessary Quirks so it's hard to find work," she told them as Izuku pondered.
"But given your ability to manipulate gravity, I figure your Quirk would be ideal for that kind of work?" Izuku said as Ochako snapped her fingers at Izuku.
"That's my thought exactly! Initially, I wanted to work with my parents, but…when I told my parents…they said that I should be focused on making my dream come true. They told me that nothing would make them happier than letting me become a Hero like I wanted to. I agreed, but only on the condition that when I make it as a Hero, I would use the money to help them out and send them on a Hawaii vacation. So that's the reason why I want to become a Hero…so that I can use the money to give them the life they Deserve!" she told them as Ida nodded his head furiously.
"Bravo Uraraka! Bravo! Nothing is nobler than aiding loved ones! I couldn't agree more!" Ida said as Izuku nodded.
"Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from," Izuku said as she raised a brow. "I wanted to become a Hero ever since I was five years old when I first saw All Might save those people. I mean, who didn't?" he asked as they nodded. "That was my dream for the longest time, but when my sister came along, I realised that there's more to being a Hero than just because. I want to be a hero so I can protect the ones I love. So I get where you're coming from Uraraka. Being a hero is more than just popularity, it's about making the situation better for everyone. And I think that's a great attitude," he said as she smiled back.
"Young Midoriya! Is here!" All Might shouted as he rounded the corner.
"All Might, what are you doing here?" he asked as the man hid around the corner.
"Lunch…" he said and held up the cloth-wrapped bento box. "Care to join me?"
"He sounds like a school maiden!" Uraraka laughed as saliva rocketed out of her mouth.
"Jokes aside, there's something I need to discuss with you, please follow me!" All Might said as Izuku nodded.
"Sure, I'll catch you guys later okay?" he told his friends as they nodded and left the two One for All users by themselves.
"So, what do you think All Might wants to talk to Deku about?" Uraraka asked as Ida shrugged.
"It might have more to do with the incident back at the USJ, Midoriya was the one that beat that 'Nomu' by himself. And from what I've heard, that thing was supposed to be as strong as All Might," Ida commented as Ochako nodded.
"I saw, it nearly killed Aizawa Sensei, good thing Deku managed to beat it. I guess that's why All Might wants to talk to him?" she said as Ida nodded.
"Could be, he might be taking an interest in Midoriya, seeing as he was the one to beat Nomu?" Ida suggested while Todoroki overheard them in line, as he narrowed glared at the mention of Izuku.
Meanwhile - The Faculty Lounge
"Your time limit has gone down?" Izuku asked as the Number One Hero nodded, while the pair of them sat in the teacher's lounge.
"Yep, instead of three hours now, I can only remain in my Hero form for two. Although given the fact I was supposed to fight Nomu, I guess I should count myself lucky. If I had fought him, I wager I would've shortened my time significantly," All Might said as Izuku nodded.
"I see…well then it's a good thing I took him down, huh?" he asked as All Might nodded. "Still, I feel bad about all this. Because you gave your Quirk to me, you're slowly losing your power," he bemoaned before Toshinori bonked him lightly on the head. "Hey!"
"None of that, we've been over this. I was always going to lose my powers when I chose my successor. Just be grateful I only lost an hour on my time limit instead of two. Which honestly is a bonus for us…" Toshinori assured his protege who nodded. "Besides, we have something else to talk about, the Sports Festival,"
"I know, it's one of the most televised events of the year, it's one of the only three chances I'll get to promote myself to potential Hero Agencies," Izuku said as Toshinori nodded.
"Right, but there's also a problem," he said as Izuku raised a brow. "As you know Chisaki is still on the loose, no doubt plotting to retake Eri from you," Toshinori said as Izuku gripped his fist at the thought of the man.
"I will never let him take her back!" Izuku growled as All Might nodded.
"I know you won't. And so far he hasn't made a move against you or Eri, and we've done extensive work keeping him from locating her. But it's more than likely he will be watching the Sports Festival as well trying to narrow down your identity. As far as we know, he isn't aware that your family has adopted her. So far he only knows someone with a Spider like Quirk took Eri from him, you did well to hide your identity. But, he may come after you to try and extract any information from you."
"I'll never let that happen, I'd rather die than let that bastard take Eri from us," Izuku said as Toshinori held up his hands.
"I know, but calm down kid. As I was saying, he knows about your spider-like powers, but not your identity. And since there are multiple other Spider-themed Quirks, he might be having a hard time trying to narrow you down. However, the point I want to get across to you is that you need to be careful going into the Sports Festival," he advised. "Now, you can bring in items that you have created yourself or help your Quirk during the Sports Festival. But for this one, I advise you not to bring your mask, as he may be able to recognise it and try to come after Eri," he advised as Izuku nodded.
"I understand All Might, hopefully with my new 'Venom Blast' powers, he won't be able to tell that it was me in the alley that night...if I can get it to work properly?" he said as he looked at his hand, trying to imagine the green lightning.
"How is it coming, by the way, your 'Venom Blast'?" All Might asked as Izuku sighted.
"Not well, I can't explain it…but it feels like I'm hitting a roadblock. I can feel it there, crawling beneath my skin. Like a vibration of energy…but whenever I try to force it out, it just pulls back from me. Maybe I'm overthinking this?"
"Possible. Everyone uses their powers in different ways and uses different methods to awaken and control their powers. You are no different in that regard, you just need to find a way to make it work for you. But another thing I wanted to talk about is making your debut at the Sports Festival," he said as Izuku nodded. "Someday I will lose all my power, and no longer be able to be the 'Symbol of Peace'. And as you saw, some are biding their time amongst the hive of Villain that I held back for so long. The Sports Festival is an event that is watched by the whole country. It will be your chance to show the world that the next 'Symbol of Peace' has arrived. Young Midoriya, this will be your chance to tell the world 'I AM HERE' and I want you to make the whole world know that!"
Izuku nodded as he gripped his fist. He knew the responsibility he had to master One for All but also to assure the world that when All Might was gone, he would be there to pick up the pace. To stand before them as the new hero that would protect the innocent and maintain the Peace All Might had strived to achieve. But it was also his chance to show the world who he was, not just as All Might's Successor, but as his own Hero.
"I won't let you down!" Izuku said with determination as All Might nodded.
"Atta boy…now, have you thought about the speech you're going to make at the Festival?" All Might said as Izuku blinked.
"...Wait what?" Izuku stared dumbfounded.
"Oh, didn't Aizawa tell you? As the top scorer during the Entrance Exam, it is a tradition that the first Year Student that's on top of the leader board has to make a speech before all of Japan, to kick start the Festival," he told him as Izuku's pupils dilated and he felt sweat rolling down his face before he suddenly leaned back and took the whole couch with him.
"YOUNG MIDORIYA!?" All Might shouted as Izuku looked pale.
"...Sorry… All Might….this is as far as I go…" Izuku muttered as he felt the weight of public speaking and passed out.
"MIDORIYA!"
Later - Class 1A
Izuku still hadn't fully recovered from the bombshell of having to speak publicly for the entire First Years, the idea of standing in front of everyone was overwhelming for him, and for good reasons. He wanted to be a Hero ever since he was a kid, yes. But, he always got nervous and scared when it came to the idea of public speaking, especially if there were cameras around. His body would just naturally freeze up, and he would look like he was being held up at gunpoint. It was like this all his life, heck even his school identification card looked like he was being held for ransom then as a student of U.A.
Although in his defence, his social anxiety stemmed from being ignored, made fun of and teased for his former 'Quirkless' nature. So it wasn't his fault he developed his fear of public speaking. He also just, really, really didn't want to do it.
"...maybe I should transfer to one of the lesser schools? No media coverage there…" Izuku muttered to himself.
"...Deku, are you okay?" Uraraka asked as she and Iida stared at him. "You've been looking real spaced out since your talk with All Might. What did he want to talk to you about?"
"...Apparently, because I scored so many points during the Entrance Exam, and made it to the top of the leaderboard, I have to make a speech for the opening ceremony…" Izuku told them as Ochako and Iida sucked in a breath through their teeth while Bakugo chuckled, annoyed he wasn't at the top but found a small amount of amusement that Deku was probably going to make a fool out of himself.
"I'm sure everything will be alright?" Iida told him as he patted Izuku's shoulder. "Public Speaking is nothing to worry about, I've seen you fight with confidence and charisma. I'm sure this will be easy for you!" Iida said as Bakugo laughed.
"Ha! Yeah right! Deku's been afraid of public speaking ever since we were kids! He'd freeze up the moment he's on stage! Especially during a school play!" Katsuki laughed as Iida and Ochako glared.
"Bakugo! That is not a nice thing to say about your classmate!" Iida chastised the explosive user.
"No…he's right…" Izuku moaned as he had his head on the desk. "Ever since we were kids I've hated public speaking…especially being on a stage. One time I was cast as a tree for our middle school play. I got so nervous I tripped over some electric cables and nearly set fire to the stage…" he briefly flashed back to his youth as a small Izuku in a tree costume panicked and tripped over some cords and nearly set the curtains on fire. "...Luckily another Student's Parent was a Pro-Water Hero and put out the fire before it spread…but let's just say the theatre was not my top career choice…" he said as Ochako and Iida stared at the boy with a bewildered and concerned look.
"I-I'm sure nothing like that will happen," Ochako said as the bell rang and they were excused to leave. But as they were about to leave, they found their homeroom door crowded with random students. "W-What the heck!?" Ochako shouted as she looked amongst the sea of students.
"What the heck, why are they crowding the exit!?" Mineta shouted as Bakugo stared at them with a dull look.
"They're scoping out the competition. No doubt they heard about our little incident with the Villians League, checking us out before the Festival," Bakugo said as he walked towards them. "It's pointless anyway, so why don't you all just fuck off you lousy mob,"
"Language Bakugo! Don't go telling fellow students to F-Fornicate themselves! Show some class, you are representing us!" Iida yelled in disapproval.
"Don't bother Iida, many have tried and failed to curb Kacchan, but none have succeeded," Izuku said as he patted his friend on the shoulder.
"I wanted to come to see what all the commotion was about, the class of First Years that fought actual villains in their first week…" a boy with shaggy purple hair, bags under his eyes and thin eyebrows said as he walked in front of the mob. "But honestly, I didn't think they'd be this arrogant. Kind of disillusions me," the kid said as he stood before the mob and the ever-angrier Bakugo, who was about to respond when Izuku walked up.
"Don't mind him, he's been like that since we were kids,"
"Fuck off Deku!" Bakugo shouted as Izuku ignored him.
"We're not all like him. I'm Izuku, Izuku Midoroiya, and you are?" he asked as the purple-haired boy stared.
"...Shinso…Shinso Hitoshi," he said. "You don't look very interesting do you?" he asked as Izuku chuckled.
"Story of my life pal, and what class are you in?" he asked as Shinso glared.
"...General Education, the class where those that aren't blessed with strong Quirks like you end up," Shinso told Izuku as the boy mentally chuckled.
'I wasn't exactly 'blessed' by that spider,'
"As your pal said, they are here to scope out the competition. But not me, because honestly…I'm not impressed." he said as he glared at Izuku. "Did you know that teachers can evaluate students in the General Education Class and transfer them to the Hero Course? Of course, to transfer a student in, one has to be moved out…" he told Izuku as Mineta gulped.
"Seems a bit harsh, doesn't it?" Izuku asked with a somewhat narrowed gaze.
"Such is life, but I didn't come here to make friends. This is more of a declaration of War. If you don't bring your A-Game to the Festival, I will take your spot in the Heroics Class. That's all I have to say," he told the class as he stared at them.
"Hey!" they heard as they saw a kid with quite long, chin length, messy grey hair which was rather peculiar in that it never seems to change shape and black eyes that were tilted dramatically inwards. Each is lined with a very thick, jagged, tan-coloured substance, which is presumably his eyelashes. He didn't appear to have any notable eyebrows, and like Eijiro Kirishima, he had rows of sharp pointed teeth.
"I'm Tetsutesu Tetsutetsu! From Class 1-B! I heard you guys got to knock around some villains at the USJ! I came here to find out if that was true, but you're just a bunch of snot-nosed punks that think you're better than us!"
'Crap, everyone hates us!' Ochako, Izuku and Iida thought before they shifted their gaze to Bakugo, who was the cause of this.
"Whatever," Bakugo said as he pushed past the crowd.
"Hey, man! Where are you going!? You got to say something, it's your fault they're all hating us now!" Kirishima said as Bakugo looked back at him.
"These people don't matter," he said, gaining confusion amongst the rest of the students. "The only thing that matters is being at the top," he said as he walked off.
'...I hate to admit it, but Kacchan has a point. They all hate on us right now, but if any of us want a chance to make it to the top with the other Heroes, then we need to beat them. If I want to make it as a pro-hero…if I want to protect Eri and the people I care about…then I can't stop…' Izuku declared to himself as he nodded.
Two Weeks later - U.A. Sports Stadium
Over the next two weeks, the students of the U.A. underwent vigorous training regiments to improve themselves. Most of them took their training seriously, except Mineta who had delusions of grandeur. Over the past two weeks, however, Izuku still struggled to call upon his 'Venom Blast' on command. It would either come out as small sparks, or nothing at all. It was a little disheartening, but it wasn't going to keep him down. Especially not now, not when the Sports Festival was here at last.
"This is it…" izuku said as he and the other class members were in the Waiting room. All around him, his classmates were preparing themselves for the upcoming events.
"Aw man, I was hoping I could wear my costume," Mina complained as she, like everyone else, had to wear their gym uniform for the events.
"I think it's fair for everyone else, some of our costumes were designed to help our Quirks. This way everyone is on even ground," Ojiro said as he stretched his body and tail.
"So then why does Midoriya get to use his Web Shooters?" Mina asked as she pointed to the green-haired boy's devices strapped to his wrist.
"Because I made these myself, and according to the bylaws. 'Students from both Heroics and Development Departments can use any equipment they made themselves', so these are an exception.' So don't blame me because I made my stuff," he said as Mina pouted.
"Unfair," she said, then stuck her tongue out at him.
"I-I kind of wonder what they've prepared for us in the first round?" Rikido asked as he felt nervous.
"Whatever it is, we must persevere," Fumikage said as he kept his cool.
"Right," Shoji said while Mineta was busy writing the kanji for fear on his hand, and then swallowing it.
"Everyone! Get your game faces on, we're about to enter the Arena soon!" Iida shouted as he barged into the room. Izuku nodded as he mentally prepared himself for anything they would throw at them.
"Midoriya…" Izuku heard as he turned to see Todoroki walk up to him. Causing Izuku to raise a brow, this was the first time he and Todoroki had ever talked to each other.
"What's up, Todoroki?" he asked as the dual-haired boy stared at him, while everyone else looked at them.
"From an Objective view, you are one of the greatest hurdles I must overcome," he said as Izuku and everyone looked confused.
"Huh?"
"Compared to everyone here, I'm well above them in terms of power ...but you…you are nothing like them. You managed to defeat that monster at the USJ, who was supposedly designed to be as strong as All Might…" Todoroki said as he glared at him. "The fact that All Might himself has his eyes on you, means that you are in a sense, like All Might himself."
"Uh…that's a bit of a stretch don't you think? I'm not as strong as All Might, I just got lucky with that Nomu when my Venom Blast powers kicked in," Izuku tried to persuade.
"I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two, and I don't really care. Just know that I will beat you today," Todoroki declared as he and Izuku stared at each other.
"Whoa, what's with all the declarations of War lately?" Denki asked as Bakugo clicked his tongue, while Kirishima got up and walked over to Todoroki.
"What the heck man? Why are you trying to pick a fight, right as we're about to start? We're all classmates aren't we?" Kirishima asked as Todoroki batted his hand away.
"Don't be mistaken, I'm not here to make friends. This isn't a team event, I have my goals, that's all I wanted to say," Todoroki said as he turned to leave.
"Wow ...talk about being dramatic …Listen, I don't know what's going on in your head or your personal life, and it's stuff I won't even begin to understand. But I'm not one to back down from a challenge," he said as he looked into Todoroki 's eyes. "Everyone here knows what they're up against. We all want to make it to the top, even other kids from the other departments are going to be trying their hardest. So I'm going to go out there and give it my All…I just wonder, after seeing all your fights…will you?" Todoroki glared at the implication as he gripped his left fist, while the two glared at each other.
"...did it just get colder in here?" Denki asked as he shivered a bit.
The rest of the students silently walked towards the main auditorium as they set themselves a fierce glare, to show that they were serious. All across Japan, people were glued to the television screen as they watched the opening events of the U.A. High Sports Festival. Inko looked on in worry while Eri watched her brother from the comfort of their couch.
"Izuku, be careful…." Inko said as she gripped her tissues in preparation for the tear fest she was about to experience.
"Welcome everyone to the annual u.a. Sports festival! First-year Division! Where the next generation of heroes and heroines will face off in a series of challenges to prove they have what it takes to become a Hero! I'm your Host Present Mic, along with my co-host Eraser Head!" Present Mic yelled into the microphone, while Aizawa just sighed.
'I hate you sometimes, Principal…' Aizawa thought, as he was forced to commentate for the event due to his injuries and was the only person that could translate and provide impartial commentary for Present Mic.
"All right everyone, making their way in is the one you've all been waiting for! The freshmen class that managed to fight off a Villain Assault on their first day, is Class 1-A of the Heroics department!"
"Geez put bigger targets on our backs…" Midoriya moaned as he felt somewhat nervous at the packed stadium.
"Followed up by the Heroics Classes of B! We have classes C, D and E from the General Studies Class! And finally F, G and H from the support class!" Present mic announced as some of them felt like chopped liver compared to the other classes' introductions.
"Tch, damn Heroics, treating us like chopped liver," one of them grunted while Shinso merely stared.
"Now, now, everyone plays fair!" Midnight announced as she walked onto the stage, a cat whistle going off as she marvelled at her costume.
"Is that appropriate apparel for a sporting event?" Tokoyami asked while Mineta nodded his head with a blood trail dripping down his nose.
"My attire is perfectly in order, thank you! Now, let's start with the pledge from the student who scored at the top of the leaderboard in the Heroics Entrance Exam! Izuku Midoroya!" she announced as Izuku nodded, and momentarily flickered invisible. He awkwardly started to walk towards the stage, looking more like a blocky version of himself as he dreaded going on stage. "...uh…sometime this week Midoriya?" Midnight said as Izuku snapped out of his stupor and rushed to the stage, while the other students chuckled and instantly thought he was all hype and had no substance.
He looked out amongst the many, many, many people before him as he felt the full weight of Japan staring at him. This was what he had to expect one day when he made it as a Hero. He looked to see All Might in the teacher's box who nodded to his student. Izuku then closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
"H-Hello, Welcome everyone… I-I know a lot of other people wish they were standing here instead of me. Trust me, I wish someone else was here right now…" he started to say as he got a few chuckles from the crowd. "Honestly, I never imagined myself ever making it this far…I never thought I'd be standing here, going to U.A. and training to be a Hero…" he spoke what was in his heart as most of the crowd believed he was doubting himself and others felt he was just a lucky kid. "But right now, I Am Here…" The crowd went silent as the boy's eyes hardened. "I am here because I worked hard like everyone else, I studied, I trained, and pushed myself to the limit and I did everything in my power to make it into U.A. And today, like everyone here…I'm going to try my hardest to make it to the top. Just like everyone else. Because right now 'I Am Here', to show the world what I can do, what we all can do! So that one day we can stand together and protect the things we love! The people we love! And that's my pledge! To go Beyond - PLUS ULTRA!" he shouted the last part as he initially got silence, then a roaring cheer from the crowd as they applauded the speech.
'Well done, Young Midoriya,' All Might looked at his mentee with a big smile on his face.
"Izuku…" Inko said as she smiled with tears in her eyes while watching her son on screen, Eri smiled as well as she hugged the mask he made her.
"Well said Midoriya," Midnight said as he nodded and walked back to the others.
"Nice Speech Deku," Ochako said as Iida nodded.
" I agree, that was a rousing speech!" he said as Izuku nodded.
"Great…I never want to do it again," he said as he felt his knees buckle and his stomach churn. "I'm just glad I didn't barf up there," he muttered as Ochako and Iida patted him on the back.
"Now with that out of the way! Let's get on to the first event, the preliminaries! What is it going to be!" Midnight announced as she drew their eyes to the monitor. Before it landed on the Obstacle Course. "The Obstacle Course! All Eleven classes will participate in the contest, they will run 4 km around the outside of the stadium. You are free to do whatever you want, so long as you don't leave the track!" she explained as the students nodded and got ready to begin.
'This is it…' Izuku thought as he and the others lined up. 'This is where I show the world that I am here…' The starting lights began to count down. 'All Might, I hope you're watching this…' he thought as the light faded to one as a small spark of green lightning shimmered in his eyes.
'Because I'm going all out!'

Chapter XII: To Stand at the Top!
