The Holy Grail War is a war in which the magus summons various historical and mythological figures to fight alongside them as servants in the war to obtain the Holy grail, an omnipotent artefact that can grant any wish one may desire. They are referred to as "servants" and the magus that summoned them are called "Masters"

In a usual Grail war seven servants are summoned each into a class of their own, those being: Assassin, Archer, Berserker, Caster, Rider, Lancer and Saber.

There have been eight Holy Grail wars in the past, the last one being strange or rather unique compared to the previous ones. It was known as the Great Calamity of Kyoto which wiped half of Japan off the map during a huge explosion which was presumed to be a servant's doing. The war was unique in the sense that it was the first war of it's kind to not feature any servants from myths or history but rather only servants which appeared as characters in works of fiction. But that specific war is a story for another day because after only three years of it occurring, another war of the same nature was about to happen making this a truly strange occurrence, a singularity if you will.

Each servant who heeded their Master's call had some kind of wish they wanted granted which is why they participated in this war. Most if not all who did, wished to undo some kind of hell they had made for themselves and to soothe their broken hearts.

This is a story of those servants and their reasons…

But first let's find those reasons out, shall we?

Prologue chapter 1

As Killua stood there watching his best friend Gon in such an angry state, he pondered what he should do about this situation but he wasn't entirely sure. It was the first time he saw him in such a state and was completely at a loss as to what to say to him to snap him out of it.

"Gon…"

Gon sat there, Staring Pitou down, his eyes full of hatred and anger. He didn't move one bit, almost like a statue.

Both of the boys were so intently focused on Pitou that they didn't even notice the other presence at the entrance who was watching silently. It was a chimera ant that resembled a mix between a Crocodile and a bear with wings of a bat, one of Meruem's lesser servants.

"... Komugi... Danger …. Must….. Warn Master"

It could barely string a sentence together with it's limited speech capabilities. It definitely wasn't as advanced as the other chimera ants and could have been taken down rather easily if only it was noticed in time and yet, it wasn't.

It flew away as fast as it could thinking Komugi's life was in danger and reporting to Meruem was its top priority.

Meanwhile, Meruem and Netero were riding the dragon that Zeno had synthesized for them using his Nen. They were heading towards a remote location nearing closer to their epic battle which should have been their last, however…

"Master Meruem... Komugi... in Danger.. Boys… Bad.. Pi...tou.. Hurt"

"What!?"

Just as Netero and Meruem where nearing there destination, the flying chimera ant managed to catch up with them

Meruem's face contorted into an angry scowl immediately upon hearing these words.

"You bastards, you took Komugi as a hostage, didn't you?! How dare you!?"

Netero's usually calm look faded and was replaced with an expression of slight shock. This wasn't part of the plan.

"Wait, Hold o-"

But before he could even finish his sentence, Meruem tensed up and lept as far as his legs could take him and ran at Godspeed towards the palace, filled with rage and anxiety.

It was all just a ploy to drag me out here so they could be left with Komugi. Those filthy humans, I'll make you pay for this underhanded trick!

Meruem assumed that he had been tricked and completely lied to and was now going to kill whoever back at the palace who looked like they could threaten Komugi's safety no matter who it was.

Gon and Killua of course had no actual intention of hurting Komugi in the first place but that didn't even seem to cross Meruem's mind at all.

As soon as the place entered his sight so did a hostile sort of aura or feeling. It seemed to come from one of the towers and he followed it without a second thought.

He jumped and entered the tower through the window and as he did all did he saw Gon, watching Pitou intently.

Meruem dashed towards Gon with all his strength and stuck out his leg mid air, catching Gon's head in his kick and severing it clean off effortlessly.

It all happened so fast that it took a while for Killua and Pitou to register what just happened.

As Meruem landed on the ground, Gon's blood splattered everywhere gushing from his neck as his lifeless body collapsed on the floor.

"GON!"

Killua roared and Meruem noticed him.

"Filthy deceitful, humans How dare you even Consider even laying hand on my Komugi!?"

"HE WAS MY FRIEND… AND … AND .. YOU…"

Killua was sobbing hysterically and couldn't even begin to process what had just happened.

"DIE, VERMIN!"

With another swift strike, Meruem knocked Killua to the ground.

"G.. on.. Go...n.. I'm sorry… sorry… I.."

He could see Gon's head lying on the floor right next to him. He could see his eyes now dead and devoid of any anger he previously had. There was still a slight hint of shock now lingering on his cold face even now.

"Gon...!"

"SILENCE, DIE!"

Meruem howled as he delivered one final hit to Killua's head, Extinguishing his life entirely. That was the End of the two boys.

For now anyway…

Do You still have regrets?

Strangely, as his consciousness faded to black and he couldn't feel anything else, he heard a voice call out to him.

Do you wish you could go back and redo it all?

Yes was his answer however he didn't have anything he could answer back with. He was just a consciousness that floated in the black abyss, it's not like he had a body or a mouth to answer with and yet the presence heard him loud and clear.

Do you wish to fight and earn back what you have lost?

Yes…!

Understood.

He could suddenly see a bright light far off in the distant void which seemed to grow closer bathing him in it's warm light, Engulfing him.

When he opened his eyes next he was in an unfamiliar room with a strangely dressed individual standing in front of him.

Now stern and filled with determination Killua raised his voice and spoke to the person in front of him.

"I ask you, are you my Master?"
