Chapter 6

The conference soon ended and Beverly packed her things and rejoined the others. She wanted to be back with her children, and Wesley, as soon as she could. She missed them to pieces and she was worried that Bok might have struck.

"We don't have any reports from the Enterprise that he's attempted to board the ship," Geordi told them.

"Thank god," Beverly said.

"So did you enjoy yourself?" Data asked her.

"I did," Beverly said. "It was nice to be around other people."

She listened to the others talking about their own experiences during the conference, Beverly laughing at some of the imitations that Geordi and Deanna did. She kept looking at Jean-Luc and he said, "I was glad that Beverly came with us."

"Me too," Geordi said.

"I'm glad that you included me," Beverly said. "But I miss the children."

"I miss them as well," he told Beverly.

"Wait a minute, are you telling me that you like children now?"

"He lived another life," Data told her. "Complete with a full family."

Beverly was stunned.

"Don't worry, I'll tell you everything about it," Deanna promised.

"I look forward in hearing about it."

Half-way home Beverly noticed strange things happening. First she saw Deanna frozen in time and then the runabout lost power. She had no idea what was going on but it was starting to feel more and more like being back in Starfleet. When Jean-Luc got hurt she at once started to scan his hand.

"What the hell is going on here?" she asked Data.

"I have no clue, Doctor."

When they finally met up with the Enterprise it took everything to keep Beverly from screaming. The ship that she had once served on was on the verge of blowing up. Her children were on the verge of blowing up. She burst into tears and Deanna held her.

"We have to find out what happened," Geordi said.

"And try and reverse it."

"I'll stay here," Beverly said. "There's not enough armbands for all of us."

"That sounds like a good idea," Deanna said.

As they left Jean-Luc framed her face with his hands. Normally he wouldn't have done this, but he could feel her pain. And it was the same pain that he was feeling right now.

"Please, help them," she begged.

"I promise that I will," Jean-Luc vowed and then they left.

They hadn't even been gone an hour before they were back. Jean-Luc had a nasty reaction to the other timeframe and he had to stay behind while Geordi, Data, and Deanna went on board the Romulan Warbird.

"So what do you think about having children?" she asked him.

"Strange," he said. "I'm finding that I'm getting overly protective of them."

She grinned and said, "Yeah, it happens."

"You know Wesley told me that I would make a great father," he said to her.

"When did this happen?"

"When I was going to starbase 515," he answered. "I needed to get my heart replaced."

"And what did you tell him?"

"I told him wishing for something doesn't make it so," he answered. "I had no idea that I was a father."

Beverly looked at him and said, "I don't regret what happened, Jean-Luc. I don't regret having them or having Nana care for them."

She felt him place his hands over hers and said, with a smile, "I'm glad that you had them."

"Me too," she agreed.

"So are you serious about being my personal doctor?" he asked her.

"Yes," she said. "Are you worried that I'm going to find out all your dark medical secrets?"

"My dear Beverly, I have no dark medical secrets that you haven't yet discovered."

Beverly laughed and then asked, "So when this is over. Want to go on a date. Nothing fancy. I'm really love trains."

"And I thought that the man acts the woman out on a date."

"Well I'm a different kind of girl," Beverly said. "So, interested?"

"Very," he answered.

"Then I'll take that as a yes," she said.

The sound of transporting could be heard and they turned to see Data and Deanna putting a man on the table.

"He attacked Geordi," Data told them.

Beverly scanned him and said, "I don't think he's a Romulan."

It turned out to be true. He wasn't a Romulan, but that wasn't it. They all concluded that the huge pockets of time were the result of the aliens believing that the Engine Core in the Romulan Warbird could hold their nest. Once again Beverly stayed behind as the three of them went to fix things.

"Doctor, we are going to have to put you in a holding pattern while the Captain destroys the runabout."

"Got it," Beverly said. "Let's hope this doesn't leave part of me behind."

She was transported on the Enterprise at the same time that the runabout was destroyed. She arrived on the Bridge, and checked herself out.

"All my body parts are here," she said.

"I'm glad about that," Jean-Luc said.

Beverly went pink.

"Finally a dinner that doesn't have leaches hanging over me," Beverly said as she had dinner with Jean-Luc.

It had been a long day and she was glad to spend it with the man that she had fallen in-love with. The children had long since gone to bed, staying at Wesley's quarters.

"So what did you do when you came back home?" he asked her.

"I don't know," Beverly said. "Got use to the fact that I didn't have to follow orders anymore. I set up my practice and started to help those on Caldos. Nana helped a great deal, but I guess that some of those on the planet thought that I was going to have all this state of the art equipment with me when I arrived. The children kept me occupied and I tried to really continue talking to Wesley, but he ended up being so busy that he didn't even talk to me anymore.

"And then you all arrived and told me what happened. Thus, why I'm here."

"I contacted Starfleet Command and they have informed me that they will be looking for Bok as well," Jean-Luc told her.

"Thanks," Beverly said.

"It was no problem," he told her.

And for a moment, things were right.

A/N: Sorry about the month long delay. Work really has worn me out and I really didn't have much energy for writing.
