Gabriel and the other senior officers sat in the Observation Lounge. One side of the room the viewport was showing the stars streaming by as the ship was in warp. Erbrun and Carlson were at a large monitor on the other side giving a briefing on Acamar.
Gabriel was impressed with how thorough they were. Carlson was very clear and concise on their political structure and history. Erbrun was letting him take the lead on this one. Gabriel appreciated good delegation.
Carlson
"They have been opening up for commerce now since the Gatherers were reintegrated into their society. Their current Sovereign is a man named Oren. He was a rather controversial choice."
O'Donnell
"How so?"

Erbrun

"He was a Gatherer."

That stopped a number of people in their tracks.

Erbrun

"Since the Gatherers did get involved with other races it would make sense why a former Gatherer would open the planet up to commerce."

Oser

"Could open up avenues for negotiations."

O'Donnell

"The Gatherers would raid and steal to get what they wanted we should proceed with caution."

Oser

"The Federation did help them reunite their people that should earn us some goodwill."

O'Donnell

"With respect, sir, that was over fifteen years ago some do not have that long of memory..."

Gabriel could sense an argument brewing.

Gabriel

"You both bring excellent points. This treaty agreement has been ongoing for years we're just here to put on the finishing touches. When we arrive the away team will consist of myself and Lieutenants Erbrun and O'Donnell. Mister Oser, you will be in command."

Oser

"Sir..."

Gabriel

"That will be all."

The crew disperses but Oser stays. Gabriel expected this.

Oser

"As first officer I must object to you leading the away team."

Gabriel

"Don't star quoting regulations to me."

Oser

"Wouldn't dream of it, sir."

Gabriel

"This doesn't seem to be a dangerous mission. However, Mister O'Donnell is right to be concerned hence why he is going with me."

Oser

"I still will object."

Gabriel

"I'll note it but I'm still going."

Oser

"I understand, sir."

Gabriel

"And if I'm wrong and it turns into a nightmare you can say 'I told you so, sir'."

Oser

"Hopefully it won't come to that."

Gabriel

"One can only hope, Lieutenant Commander. One can only hope. Is that all?"

Oser

"Yes, sir."

Gabriel

"Dismissed."

Oser leaves the room and Gabriel sits in the empty lounge. He wasn't worried originally but now something was bothering him, not a fun feeling to have. Every time a feeling like this would come up horrible things would happen. Can he be wrong this one time? Doubtful.
