Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters, except Crystal, and I'm making nothing from this.

Chapter 12: Crystal's Rival

Captain's Log: Now that our ship as a proper Chief Medical Officer we find that we are taking another passenger, the son of Admiral Li. He will be staying with one of the Lt. Commanders that has agreed to take care of him for a year. While I've warned against special privileges, I have a feeling that the ship will treat him much better than any of the other children. Meanwhile, I have my own problems and it's in the form of a child that has extra ordinary abilities and a very annoying pet.

"I hope they don't think that I'm a freak," Crystal said to her mother.

"Crystal, no one thinks that you're a freak. Odd, but not a freak."

"Thanks, mom," Crystal said.

"Tomorrow I'm getting a break from a staff meeting to enroll you in school."

Crystal had to admit that she was nervous about the idea of going to a new school and meeting new people. She missed Emily and even some of her more annoying classmates. That night she had a really strange dream. She was standing in a room that she now knew to be the Bridge, it was dark, but she could see things through the red lights that kept on flashing. And then she saw something, which looked like a giant beast.

"Force, know my plight. Release the light…. Lighting."

And the beast was hit with it.

"He's a danger to all. The Li family will end up trying to kill you. And I can't have that."

"Who are you?" Crystal asked.

"Remember, he's a threat."

She then saw the Shadow Card appear and attack it. And then she woke up.

Crystal didn't tell anyone, not even Kero, about the dream. It was too strange, to beyond anything that she had faced. She didn't tell Kero about the beast that looked like it was made of lightning. And the words, the words that had affected it, she couldn't get them out of her head. When her mother enrolled her she was introduced to her new classmates. She sat down and then the teacher said, "Miss Picard isn't the only one that is new. Everyone, I would like for you to meet Li Syaoron."

The bottom of her stomach dropped.

"You're not eating your ice cream," Beverly said.

"I didn't have a very good day at school," she told her mother.

"What happened?"

"I met Admiral Li's son," she told her.

"Yeah, I can imagine that he's use to having special treatment."

"Mother, I had a strange dream last night," she confessed. "A voice, a man's voice, told me that the Li family will end up trying to kill me."

"Crystal, I doubt your father would allow anyone on-board that would try and harm you."

"I know that," she said, "But I'm scared."

Beverly put her hand on Crystal's and Crystal sensed her love and deep down, her worry. The look that Li had given her had shaken her to the core.

"Come on, let's finish your ice-cream or else Kero will want it."

The idea that Kero might eat her treat made Crystal dive in.

When she was finished she saw the door to ten forward open and in walked the Captain. He nodded to a woman behind the bar and then approached their table. As he did the door opened again and in walked Li Syaoron.

"Oh no, he's here," she said.

"This isn't a place for children," Beverly said.

"He thinks he can come in because his mother is an Admiral."

"Hello, ladies," Captain Picard said.

"Hello, Jean-Luc," she said and Crystal saw her mother blushing.

"Do you mind if I-."

"Give me the cards," Li demanded.

"Excuse me, but you're not invited," the Captain said.

"I wasn't talking to you," Li snarled. "Give me the cards or so help me I'll take them from you…by force."

A long sword appeared and something strange happened that she would later on tell Kero about. Her mother stood up and Crystal was suddenly hit with an energy that she had never felt before.

"Leave my daughter alone," she said, her voice suddenly laced with power and authority.

Li backed away and then ran out.

"I suddenly don't-."

And she passed out, forcing the Captain to call for a medical team.

"She just passed out," Kero said.

"Yes, and the strange thing was that I sensed that she had power."

"She might be a magician," he said. "Though, I'm sure that I never sensed that she had any kind of magical powers."

"She scared Li," she said.

"About that," Kero said. "You told me that he could sense that you had the cards on you."

"Yes, but I don't know how."

"Li Syaoron's family are direct descendent of Clow Reed," he told her. "Though the mother's side of the family."

"So he should have them," Crystal said.

"Crystal, that's not how it works," he said and the book, which had been in her bag, floated out and hovered. "You broke the seal, you made the agreement, the cards that you've already sealed away belong to you by right. This is the rules that Clow Reed, himself, created. If Li Syaoron tried to take the book the cards would have attacked him. And he would have felt the full force of Clow Reed's power."

"And what about the dream?"

She had told Kero about the dream when she explained what happened in Ten Forward.

"It sounds like an incantation that Clow's mother created," he said. "It creates lightning and can be used on a number of cards. One of them is Thunder and the other is Time. Those are spirits that you have yet to encounter. As you move along the deck you get closer to encountering those cards and I will tell you, they are very dangerous. The warning that states that his family will try and kill you makes me think the Li family has turned very dark and very dangerous."

"Can I protect myself, my family?"

Kero looked at her and said, "The only way that you can protect them is by getting stronger. Become more powerful than the Li family and they will leave you, your family, and your friends alone. That's why capturing the cards is very important."

"I'm scared, Kero."

"I know that you are, Crystal, and that's why I will be here to help."

The door to sickbay opened and a figure entered the room. On the far side of sickbay was a sleeping Beverly Crusher. The figure was a woman and she said, "The time has come for you to protect your daughter in ways other than getting her into a place. Soon the Li family will find out what crossing the Associates is like. We will not allow the Li family to bring dishonor to our group and to what it means to be magicians and sorcerers. The Thunder Card is coming, Beverly, and your power is what she will need to take it away from Li's fingers."

"I must admit that I always thought that the Associates were bit like ourselves," the voice of Q said.

She turned and looked at him.

"So you have come to watch the game," she said.

"Well since it involves Mon Capitaine's daughter, I must watch."

"These creations have the power to destroy the Enterprise," she told him.

"I'll keep that from happening," Q promised.

"Then I hope that you enjoy the show," she said to him.

"I must admit that the idea that the Doctor has any kind of power is a little confusing."

She looked at him and said, "Clow Reed's father had many affairs before he married. One of them was to a Scottish maid name Howard. When Clow Reed encountered her daughter she used his magic to store a library of Sun spells and crafted a wand that was to be used to aid his successor in his, or her, quest to find all the cards and gain ownership over them. The Associates have decided that activating her powers is the most important thing that we can do. Even though Crystal has power she doesn't have the knowledge to use it. Beverly will provide a means to ensure that the Li family holds no ownership over the cards."

"So a failsafe," he reasoned and she nodded. "I must admit, very interesting. Well it seems that we both shall watch, and see, what happens. It should be a lot of fun," he said and Q vanished.

She turned to Beverly and said, "I can't wait to see Li's face when he comes back with nothing."

And then she placed a necklace around her neck and added, "When the time comes, you will know the words to activate it."

And then she was gone.

A/N: Unlike the crossover story that I did Li never appeared. In this story, he's in it. However, he's not the Li that's in the Sakura story. He's far more dangerous and deadly than he ever was in the Anime. This is also the first time that the Associates are mentioned. These people are mentioned in the Clear Card Arc, as a group of Magicians that have a personal grudge against Clow Reed, thus anyone that's related to him. As for Beverly, she's a direct descendent of Clow Reed through his father's side.

Her power, and strength, will be a prime obstacle in Li's desire to become Master over Yue and Kero. Note: I haven't yet decided who will be Yue in this story.
