Chapter 13

Author's Note

I did mention I was going back to weekly updates, right? They're just much less stressful and gives me the time to make quality work. Work has been crap lately (I'm looking at that one client who has been making everyone miserable!) so I'm excited to just relax and present to you all chapter 14. I hope you enjoy!

Leave the reviews, please, they're one of my most favourite things!

TheProudPearl24- Thank you! Your words meant a lot! And we're thinking of July 2022, nothing is set in stone of course, but that'd be a lovely time for a beach wedding, don't you think? Although my fiance hates sand, so maybe a dock wedding will be better, haha! And it's kind of slow-burn, they do get somewhere in this chapter, but you'll see soon! Thank you for the review, yours always makes me smile!

Annabeth777- Thanks, beautiful! I'm glad Percy broke up with Rachel, as well, haha!

LadyHW- Oh goodness, no! It's a modern AU so they're just doing a play, haha! And thank you... Although I do think you're foreshadowing a future story of mine... I'll just leave that hanging there!

No One's POV

Percy and Annabeth walked into the auditorium together, Annabeth's bag slung onto Percy's shoulder along with his. They walked close enough that they weren't exactly holding hands, but their fingers brushed against each other every time they moved.

"Holy shit." Piper whispered as Percy held out his hand to help Annabeth down the stairs. She was rolling her eyes, but laughing and their friends stared with open mouths.

"What the hell happened at the museum?" Nico muttered as the two approached, smiles etched on their faces.

The girls dragged Annabeth to the side to chat with her while the boys pressed Percy for information.

"We're kind of together, but also… Um, not?" Percy offered and Will and Nico blinked.

"What do you mean also not?" Will asked.

"We went on a second date."

Just as he said that, they heard Piper screech the same thing.

Ignoring Will and Nico's evident shock, Percy's mind flashed back to the night of their second date. They had gone to the beach and the pier…

Annabeth was wearing a grey swimsuit underneath her shorts and the white cardigan.

Percy's mind shouldn't have blubbered and his gaze shouldn't have wandered over her lean legs and slim figure.

But it did.

"Seaweed brain." Annabeth said softly, a teasing smile on her face as she flicked his head. He shook himself out of his daze and he laughed.

"You look great."

"Thanks. Let's go?"

Percy drove his stepdad Paul's Prius. He parked on the side and they held hands as they walked down to the water. Families were spread out around them, kids laughing as they ran through the waves.

Percy took off his shirt and kicked his shoes off, winking at Annabeth and she shook her head at him, ditching her cardigan and shorts and her slippers as she followed him.

He waded into the deeper end and motioned for Annabeth to follow him, which she did, and they swam in the water for a bit, a particularly large wave running over Annabeth. She sputtered with giggles as Percy swam up underneath her, lifting her up out of the salty water.

"I think that's enough swimming for now." he chuckled as he carried her back to the shore.

She laughed. "Put me down, Percy! I'm not a child."

"Nah, I like you here."

She started squirming and he dropped her on the sand accidentally, her pulling him down with her. He hovered above her before rolling over to the side, both of them laughing.

"Are we done swimming?" Annabeth asked as they washed off in the outdoors showers. "What else are we gonna do?"

Percy's eyes settled on the blinking lights of the pier. "Wanna go?"

"You didn't plan this at all, did you?"

"Nope. But the pier sounds fun, right?"

Annabeth laughed. "Yeah, let's go."

They walked, hand-in-hand, towards the pier, where Percy bought them tickets and Annabeth dragged him from booth to booth, her eyes lit up excitedly. Percy played one of the water squirting gun games and he won her an owl plushie, which she held tightly the entire time they were there.

"Percy!" Annabeth pointed at the ferris wheel and he smiled.

She dragged him to the line, where she bounced excitedly on her toes and pointed out the schematics of the wheel.

Where she stored all that information in her brain, he had no idea. But if it meant she'd get this glow on her face whenever talking about it, he was glad she had the space.

When it was their turn, Annabeth patted the space next to her, giving him a tiny smile. He sat down next to her, the cart shaking under his weight. She laughed and soon, other passengers had boarded and they were moving.

They stopped at the top and Percy took a picture, Annabeth's blonde head laying against his shoulder and the pier lights twinkling happily as blurs behind them.

He made it his screensaver and he didn't miss the way she blushed, her eyes flitting towards the horizon. The cart jiggled and creaked, stopping again.

"Uh… don't tell me it's broken."

"Everyone, the ferris wheel has jammed. Please remain calm, the maintenance workers are working on it as we speak."

Percy laughed at Annabeth's annoyed huff. She had never been very patient.

"I don't wanna be stuck here." she muttered and Percy shrugged, mindlessly throwing an arm around her to keep her warm, the wind having picked up at the top.

She snuggled into his side and Percy's heart soared. He missed this.

"Hey, we should talk."

"We should?"

"What better way to pass time when you're stuck on a ferris wheel?"

Annabeth chuckled. "True. What are we talking about?"

Percy took a deep breath. "Doyouwanttomaybetrybeingmorethanfriends?"

Annabeth blinked. "What?"

"Do you… Do you want to maybe try being more than friends?"

Annabeth tilted her head, looking up at him, her eyes searching his face. "..Again?"

Percy flushed. "Yeah, but… I want to try it. Like for real. Not just a weird fling thing."

"If you want to… Um, I get it if-"

"No, no! We… We can try. If you want to."

"I want to."

"Okay, I want to, too."

"Is this the part where we kiss?"

Annabeth scoffed, slapping his arm, but a smile was on her face.

And that was enough for Percy.
