2/10. Invasion.
Back at Will's home, downstairs in the basement, inside the tent, Will Kyle and Tommy sat indian style on their sleeping-bags, with Will's 2000s mini TV sitting in front of the kids on Will's sleeping-bag and his electric lantern on. Tommy's sleeping-bag was pink. Actually, it was Will's mother's sleeping-bag. He had gone upstairs earlier to his parents' master bedroom and got it out of their closet, retrieved his electric lantern and mini TV from his room, and brought both of them back down to the basement and gave the sleeping-bag to Tommy, which Tommy gladly accepted. The kids also had snacks and sodas inside the tent as well in case they got hungry.
"I really appreciate you doing this for me, Will." Tommy said.
"For letting you in my house in the middle of an alien invasion or for letting you stay here with me and Kyle?" Will asked.
"Both, i guess." Tommy said.
"Don't worry about it. You can stay here with me and Kyle for as long as you want." Will said.
"Yeah, we don't mind." Kyle added.
"Right. Besides, i hate being here all by myself during a time like this." Will said.
"Oh, i see. Fraidy cat finally comes out." Tommy said.
"I'm just kidding. Sort of." Will said.
"I'll help out where i can to help you feel comfortable. I gotta tell ya though, i've never camped out in a basement before." Tommy said.
"You're kidding. Even i've done that." Kyle said.
"All by yourself?" Tommy asked.
"My parents, brother and i stayed down there until the storm passed over." Kyle explained.
"I gotcha." Tommy said. "So...what do we do now?"
"We could turn on this small TV and find out what's going on in the world on the News." Kyle suggested.
"Comin' right up." Will said before turning on the 2000s mini TV, revealing the CNN News and two anchor-women sitting at a desk. One was black and the other was white.
"Breaking News happening right now. There appears to be a number of strange sightings in the sky across the state of California. Witnesses are calling in from the station, as well as notifying police that they're seeing weird-looking ships in the sky all over the state of California. And a bizarre thing is...the ships are beaming up hundreds of people into them. " Said the black anchor-woman.
"2000." Will said. "Do you really think this could be an alien invasion?" He asked Kyle.
"Is there any other explanation that makes sense?" Kyle asked.
"What's on the other channel?" Tommy asked.
Will pressed a button on the mini TV, changing the channel to the Mexican News channel where a male Mexican News reporter, holding a wireless microphone in his right hand, was speaking in Spanish while standing in the middle of a chaotic city where people were panicking, running and screaming. The sky was also covered with dark gray clouds and several large spaceships littered the sky. There was also a blue banner at the bottom with Spanish writing.
"Man, i don't speak Spanish! Go back to the other channel and see what's goin' on!" Kyle said.
"You don't have to speak Spanish, okay, just look!" Will said.
The scene on the mini TV then changed to a female Mexican News reporter standing in another city in Mexico, holding a wireless microphone in her right hand. There was also a blue banner at the bottom of the screen that read SELENA ORTEGA, and the sky was covered with dark gray clouds and was littered with big spaceships.
"We are currently experiencing a nation-wide panic that is devastating this entire region." Said the female Mexican News reporter known as Selena in a Spanish accent. "From what i've been able to ascertain, the ships in the sky are beaming people up into them by the hundreds. More and more citizens, men, women, infants, children and teenagers are being reporter missing as the number of vanishing people continues to grow." Selena then touched her ear-piece on her right ear. "We have just been informed to seek shelter. To get inside our homes and lock ourselves in until military arrives."
The scene changed to a female Asian News reporter holding a wireless microphone with her left hand, speaking in her native language as she stood in a city, with a honey-yellow banner at the bottom of the screen with Asian words on it. The sky was covered with dark gray clouds and countless large spaceships littered the sky.
"For the benefit of my English-speaking viewers, there seem to be multiple ships in the sky, abducting people by the hundreds. No one can explain why. Citizens all over South Korea-men, women, infants, children and teenagers-were here one moment and gone the next. We cannot be sure if this is an alien attack or an act of terrorism." Said the female English translator, translating the Asian News reporter lady's words.
The scene changed back to the black and white anchor-women.
"We've been reporting on the bizarre phenomenon that seems to be happening not just here in this country, but all over the world as the number of missing people continues to grow with each passing minute. The president of the United States and other government officials have issued a nation-wide terror alert and have asked that all remaining Americans try to remain calm." Said the white anchor-woman.
"We now go live to Lenard Morris in UK London, England to bring us up to date on what's happening even as we speak." Said the black anchor-woman.
A male News reporter then appeared on screen standing in the city of London, England over in UK, with a blue banner at the bottom of the screen that read LENARD MORRIS.
"Thank you, Tanya." Said the male News reporter known as Lenard Morris in a british accent. "As you have been reporting for the last several hours, there are un-explained events going on seemingly throughout the world. There are people running from their homes and office buildings into the streets, screaming and shouting in sheer terror that the world is coming to an end. If this is to be the end...may Heaven have mercy on us all."
The scene changed back to the black and white anchor-women.
"That was Lenard Morris...reporting live from London over in UK." The black anchor-woman known as Tanya said. "We now go to the president who's just arrived in an old office with several ranking officers from every branch of the military to address the nation."
There was a moment of silence.
"Tanya, we, uh, seem to be experiencing a technical glitch. Let's go back to Lenard Morris in London." The white anchor-woman said. "Lenard? Lenard, are you there? Can you hear me?"
A pale blue beam of light shined down on Tanya and sucked her up out of view, leaving the white anchor-woman alone at the desk.
"Oh, my gosh!" The white anchor-woman gasped. "Tanya? Tanya." She then placed her right hand over her mouth and began to cry.
Will turned off the mini TV and he, Tommy and Kyle just stared at the blank screen in shock and disbelief. Sure, they had their suspicions that the alien invasion was occurring world-wide, but now they had confirmation that it actually was. It felt like a bad dream. Nothing more. Normally, they would see devastating things on the News their parents were watching and wouldn't worry about it. But it was easy to ignore a problem when it was only visible on a screen and not right outside your home in your neighborhood and home town...or across the globe. In that moment, Will, Kyle and Tommy wanted to pass out right then and there. Perhaps if they did, they would wake up to find the world as it had been yesterday.
Yesterday?
Was it really only yesterday when everything was normal?
It seemed like they were living in a different lifetime now. Then again, they supposed they were. Yesterday it was only humans and animals that existed on Earth on November 11th. Today it was humans, animals and aliens on Earth.
November 11th.
The last normal day in human history.
"It really is the end of the world...isn't it?" Tommy asked.
There was a brief pause before Will answered. "As a matter of fact...it is."
