For anyone checking for an update for A Forgotten Contrast by checking this story, it is still under development.
It is something that should've been finished long ago. I've expressed the idea and storyline is finished, I just need to put it into writing.
But life happened and so did university-I stopped writing.
With this hiatus, my writing style was lost. Thus I am using this story to try and revitalize myself, to reinvent my style.
I refuse to half-ass the end of A Forgotten Contrast and dirty my favourite creation with that of unpracticed and impatient hands.
This story contains spoilers for the manga Komi Can't Communicate written and owned by Tomohito Oda. I do not own these characters, even the ones I create and insert into the story. I make this distinction of my own discretion in case anyone else desires to create oneshots/headcannons of any characters I create.
This story is a continuation-type of writing. This means from the manga chapter 343 is where this story begins. So if you are not caught up to the aforementioned chapter, be wary of spoilers as well as spoilers from future chapters that may get integrated into this story. Major arcs like culture festivals, the summer pool visit, etc, will most likely not be written by me. I will describe and incorporate the canon version from the manga in hopes of keeping the accuracy as close as possible.
In time, this piece of fiction will become canonically incorrect and diverge greatly from the set story Tomohito Oda creates.
However, at the time of writing, this is my interpretation of events and how it could possibly unfold.
Of course, the beginning will feel coarse as I create my own extremely unlikely scenario for progressing the story and incentivizing development.
I have chosen a first-person perspective in order to focus on Tadano/Chadano and Komi as well as his interactions with other characters. It may feel awkward at first because a third person perspective allows for the narrator whereas first has this empty vacuum.
I intend to improve my writing during this and to just enjoy the experience of writing fluff with comfort characters. I encourage anyone to try and write their own oneshot with these two with all the awkwardness you can dream up. Focus on cliches, character extremes, and simple literary caricatures; it is much more fun during the process of writing than you would expect.
There were literally three chapters created of awkward 1-2 second long periods of eye contact without a word spoken. The world is your oyster and never say your idea is too simple.
There will be a TW for minor injury, a knife, blood, and mentions of pain as well as descriptions of violence within the first couple chapters. There will be nothing to do with depression or self-harm; that is not the focus of this story, nor are the warnings. Again, this is just a beginning scenario I've created in order to stimulate faster growth of their relationship as we will get to see a slow growth through the manga. Selfishly, it's more fun to write about the lovebirds doing lovebird things while getting flustered and embarrassed instead of fumbling around blindly about it for a while.
I'm honestly unsure if the extent of my writing requires the need of a TW, but I have included it as a precaution so you are not surprised when the subject is broached.
Do not let this warning scare you, dear reader.
It is simply a safety tool for those who may want to skip the chapters, which is perfectly okay to do. I will include a brief summary of the story thus far at the beginning of the chapter where the warnings end (Chapter 4).
I may take this "role" of a writer seriously in setting up expectations because fanfiction can… vary… in the topics that people write. As a reader and writer, I do not intend to harm, nor lie, to you.
Although there is a chance I will miscommunicate as I likely am right now; I get formal when nervous.
I intend to stay as true to the story and characters as I possibly can.
There will be plot holes, incorrect details, skewed characters, confusion of setting, etc. I do not know much of Japanese culture, climate, nor the naming conventions. Having more than 4 characters in one dialogue/room becomes a cluster for me. I enjoy writing teasing and playful flirting but will never post a dedicated sex scene. When I lose my writing motivation, I tend to completely stop writing a series. However, I love the characters that Tomohito has created. I enjoy the slapstick comedy and the awkward yet elegant characters. The averted eyes and smoke rising off of the embarrassed along with the steady/serious panels when a character's tone shifts is what drives my passion for this story.
So let's treat this like a game, an experiment of sorts. As time progresses and if the manga covers topics similar to I, then how close did I get? What characters seem the most accurate? Which ones are blatantly wrong? What reaction or dialogue may have worked more accurately? What scenes can you clearly imagine illustrated in a manga style?
How close is my literary voice compared to that of our generous Tomohito Oda?
This introduction certainly took up much more space than I intended, but I am determined to set up concrete expectations. A session 0 for my fellow nerds and degenerates.
So go forth and let your mind free, readers. Feel free to criticize and critique.
This is fanfiction after all: it's never truly written alone.
