Hey all :)

This is my first attempt at a Twilight fanfiction. I'm not sure how much interest there is in a Carlisle/OC fanfiction, but maybe there will be some readers. :)

Note: the story is set in 2018, that's why there are smartphones and co. The events of the normal Twilight books did not happen. So, there is no Bella or Renesmée. I tried to include them, but somehow it didn't fit.

The first time I tried uploading this chapter, there were some editing problems (you could see all that editing information). I tried to fix it. Hopefully, it looks better now!

And now: have fun! :)

Chapter 1: Welcome to Paris

Paris, June 2018

"Seriously? Another museum?", Emmett groaned, following the other Cullens into the old French-style building.

"We're in Paris, Emmett. There has to be some culture involved," Carlisle replied and went to the counter to buy the tickets.

"Besides, this isn't a museum, it's a gallery," Rosalie explained.

"And what's the difference? As far as I can see, there are only paintings on the walls here too", Emmett complained.

"The difference is that you can also buy the artwork here. For quiet some money." Jasper looked at his brother and shrugged.

At that moment, Carlisle returned with the tickets and the Cullens were finally able to enter the exhibition space. It was a high hall built on impressive light stone columns. The walls were painted a dark blue so that the paintings were highlighted.

While Edward, Jasper, Carlisle and Rosalie walked through the hall with interest, stopping every now and then at a painting, Emmett sat down on a bench in the middle of the hall.

After some time Alice joined him. "Well, enough of all that art, too?" She shook her head and winked a few more times than she normally did. "Are you okay?" Emmett turned to her. "I don't know. I feel like I should be seeing something. Like there's something there, but I can't grab it." Jasper had overheard the conversation and was with her as quickly as he could. He put his arm around her shoulders. "Darling, what's wrong?" Alice looked into his eyes and shrugged. "I don't know."

At the same time, Carlisle sat on a bench directly in front of a painting. Dark colors dominated the painting. It showed a figure, a human apparently, illuminated by a bright light in the background. The figure was also painted in dark colors and had a tortured posture. One hand to its chest and another to its head as it was screaming something.

"Fascinating, isn't it?" a female voice suddenly sounded next to Carlisle.

Surprised, he looked up. He had actually been so absorbed in the painting that he had ignored all perceptions. But now they came over him like a wave. The woman standing next to the bench had golden blond hair that fell in gentle waves over her shoulders. Her scent was a mixture of raspberry and cherry blossom. And for the first time in his life as a vampire, Carlisle's eyes darkened a shade as he caught the scent of blood. If he were still human, his pulse would have quickened and his heart would have beaten faster.

"Oh sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you." Her soft voice snapped him out of his stupor and only then did he notice her uncertain look. Her eyes were a mixture of green and brown and Carlisle was sure he had never seen such beautiful eyes on a human before.

"I'd better leave you alone again." She added and started to leave.

"No, please. Wait." Carlilse extended a hand slightly. "I'm sorry. I was lost in thought. You're right. The picture is quite fascinating. Would you like to sit down?"

She hesitated for a brief moment before nodding, "I'd love to."

She took a seat next to him and continued to look at the painting. Carlisle, on the other hand, dared to look at her from the side. She was very pale and her lips were finely curved with a delicate shade of red.

"At first I thought that the painting showed a desperate person. Who suffers from depression or something similar."

Carlisle nodded, looking at her more clearly now. "And now?"

"Mmm?" With a questioning look, she turned her head to him and looked at him properly for the first time. Her eyes met his and her breath caught. He could hear her not catching her breath for a moment and her heart beating faster at the same time. Never before had she seen such a beautiful man. His golden butterscotch eyes invited her to sink in and his face had the perfect shape. He really looked like a Greek god. Carlisle gave her a few seconds and used them to take a closer look at her face as well. Her features were soft and he was sure that this was what a goddess must look like. His goddess.

Meanwhile, all the other Cullens had gathered at the bench in the middle of the hall. Jasper, Alice, and Emmett sat while Edward and Rosalie stood behind them. They were all watching their adoptive father and the unknown woman in disbelief.

"What the hell," Rosalie muttered.

"It was probably what you couldn't see because you didn't know her yet," Jasper speculated.

Alice nodded. "How exciting! What is Carlisle thinking right now?"

They had all been following their conversation.

"All I can tell you is that his mind is going a thousand miles an hour right now." Edward sighed, trying to read anything useful from his oldest friend and father's thoughts.

"I never thought Carlisle would go for the curvy type of woman," Emmett interrupted him.

"Emmett!" Rosalie scolded him, but then agreed with him. "I didn't think so either."

"Now don't exaggerate it, Rosalie. She's not a size zero, but she has really nice curves. Oh, she'll be so much fun to dress! Such figure types can be styled quite differently than ours. I can't wait to take her shopping!" Alice clapped her hands with excitement.

"If she had big boobs at least," Rosalie added.

"Who needs big boobs when you have such a gorgeous ass?", Emmett said enthusiastically, high-fiving Jasper.

"Emmett Cullen!" Rosalie hissed, and if looks could kill, it would have been too late for Emmett.

"Sorry, babe. You're the prettiest, of course," he pulled Rosalie to his lap and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"I don't think Carlisle cares at all. Curvy or not. He is absolutely fascinated by her," Edward updated the others.

"Awww." Alice couldn't hold back a romantic sigh.

"What do you think of the painting now?", Carlisle repeated his question.

She tore herself away from his gaze and shook her head.

"Now? Um, no... No, that's a really silly interpretation." She had closed her eyes and was still shaking her head.

"Oh come on. I'm curious."

She opened her eyes again and dared a glance at the beautiful man next to her before looking at the painting again.

"Okay, I'll tell you. But don't laugh."

"I promise," he flashed her his best smile and even out of the corner of her eye it caused her heart to beat a little faster.

"I thought maybe... Maybe it's not a human at all, but another creature."

"What kind of creature were you thinking about?"

"Well, what creature fears the light and loves the dark… A vampire."

Carlisle's eyes widened slightly in shock and he was sure that he could hear his adoptive children gasp as well.

"But then I thought that somehow… it does not fit. What if the creature, the probable vampire, does not want to fear the light? What if his inner demons tell him to go into the dark but all he actually wants… is the light?"

It was silent for some seconds. Both of them starred at the painting and while she was lost in thoughts about the art, Carlisle's mind was racing again. Was it really possible that she could know him so well without even knowing him? After some moments, she looked at him as he still hadn't said anything.

"See? Silly theory", she shrugged and blushed looking down.

"No, no, not at all. I just-"

He was interrupted by a sound of her smartphone. She quickly took it out of her blazer's pocket and stopped the alarm she had set.

"Sorry, I have to leave." She stood up. "It was really nice talking to you. I had the feeling not many people are really interested in that painting. Just sad that I couldn't get to hear your thoughts about it."

She smiled softly at him and they exchanged one last longing look, before she hurried away. Carlisle watched her leave before looking at the painting one more time.

"I think, I see it too now." He mumbled to himself knowing that she couldn't hear it anymore.

The others watched her leave as well and Alice mentally made the first notes about her look. She wore a simple black jeans, a white t-shirt and over that a dark blue long blazer.

Suddenly Edward laughed slightly. "Carlisle has recognized her butt now too. And he loves it."

"Wooohooo!" Emmett roared and threw his fist in the air causing a lot of visitors to stare at him.

So, that was the first chapter. Let me know what you think in the reviews! :)

It may not have been my best chapter, but I still need to get into the flow of this story too. ;)
