"No, I just want my Daddy!" Carlie said stubbornly.

I sighed.

I needed to figure out something for this.

"We talked about this, right?" I smiled, "Each family is different. We don't have Daddy, and that's fine!"

"But I want him," she said, "I'm sure Santa will grant my wish!"

"Baby..." I sighed, "We'll talk about this... But we need to sleep now. Let's get some sleep on the flight, okay? And then aren't you excited to meet everyone?"

"Yeah..." she smiled, "I'm so excited! I told Nana that I'm going to help with the Christmas tree! And she said she has a surprise for me! I can't wait to see what it's going to be!"

"I'm sure it must be something really nice!" I said, "But let's just try to sleep now. I'm very tired, so I'm going to close my eyes, and try to sleep. You should also do the same, okay?" I said as I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.

"Mommy! A scary guy is going to sit next to us." She said after five minutes or so as she held my arm tightly.

Scary guy? Must be a guy with a beard!

I opened my eyes and saw a guy putting his bag in the overhead compartment.

No way!

"Bella? Oh my God! What a surprise!" He said as he sat next to me.

You gotta be kidding me!

"How are you doing?" He said, "Oh my God! I can't believe this."

"I'm... I'm good!" I said, "This is such a... surprise!"

"Yeah!" He said.

"You're coming home?" I asked.

"Yeah!" He smiled.

Why? I wanted to ask.

"First Christmas in five years! I'm going to surprise everyone!" He said.

Why?

Why was this happening?

"Do you know him, Mommy?" Carlie asked.

"Is that your daughter?" He smiled.

Well, our daughter.

But well, I was once again glad that Carlie didn't look anything like him!

"Yeah," I said, "Meet Edward... He's... He's Aunt Alice's brother."

And he was your Mom's best friend once.

And someone she loved at some point in her life.

And yeah, also your Dad!

"Hello… I'm Edward," he smiled at her.

Carlie looked at me to get my approval.

I couldn't believe the moment was finally here, and this was not at all what I had expected!

I nodded my head.

I had lost my ability to think anything.

"Hello, Mr. Edward," she said, "I'm Carlie."

"You can just call me Edward," Edward smiled.

I shook my head silently.

This was not at all how I had imagined this to go!

In the plane!

"Is that real?" she asked him.

"What?" Edward smiled.

"Your beard." she said.

"Yeah." Edward chuckled, "Do you like it?"

"No." she said, "I don't like beards… And yours is so big!"

"Ouch!" He chuckled.

"I must say… You're looking hideous," I couldn't help commenting.

"What?" He looked at me, "This is my... rugged look!"

I rolled my eyes.

"Mom is going to give me a hard time over this," he chuckled, "I didn't get a chance to shave."

Wait, why were we talking like we hadn't lost touch in these last five years!

"I know your Mom," Carlie chimed in.

"Oh really?" Edward smiled at her.

"Yes, you're Aunt Alice's brother, and I know her mother, so it means I know your mother, too," she said.

"Well, aren't you one smart girl!" Edward chuckled.

"I go to her house a lot. It's right next to my Nana and Grandpa's house. She's very nice. She gives me a lot of candies when I go to her house. And then she also makes really nice pancakes. I like her," she said excitedly.

"That's nice!" Edward chuckled.

"I also know your Daddy," she said.

"Oh really?" Edward said.

I was still in disbelief.

They were actually talking to each other!

What was going on, for God's sake!

"Yeah, I go to the park with Grandpa Charlie and him." She said, "I also go to his lodge. I also help with Christmas decorations."

"What are you saying?" Edward said, "I also love doing decoration at the lodge. You know what? I can help you this time!"

"Oh, are you also going to be there?" She asked.

What was going on, for God's sake!

"Okay sweetie, we are going to sleep now," I said.

"But I'm not sleepy," she said.

"Well, but you need to try to sleep," I said, "C'mon now! Not a word till we lend, okay?"

"Aren't you a strict Mom!" Edward laughed, "It's hilarious to see you like this."

I glared at him.

"Can we please talk after she sleeps? She needs to sleep now," I said in a low voice.

"Yes, Mom!" He chuckled.

I shook my head.

What was going on?
