I do not own Harry Potter. If I did, it would have been vastly different...and would have been much darker.
Hello guys, Badger here. This is the second story idea I had in mind. Now, I didn't plan on writing the first chapter until tomorrow, however after writing the first chapter for 'An Oath And Altered Fate' I had a lot of free time, so I ended up finishing the first chapter for this story much sooner then expected.
I must say, this first chapter may seemed quite packed and a bit all over the place, but I hope you enjoy and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 1
A Meeting That Leads To Questions
Harry felt completely lost. Hagrid had handed him his ticket, before disappearing. Looking at his ticket, Harry saw that it was for Platform 9 ¾, but that wasn't possible. He looked around the platform, and even asked a worker where he could find Platform 9 ¾ only to be ridiculed and being called a 'jokester'. He was starting to panic, wondering how he was going to get to Hogwarts. It was that moment, when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
…
Amelia Bones was many things. She was a serious and stern woman, someone who wasn't easily swayed by mere words. And she wasn't someone who was easily fooled. Nor should she be taken as a fool. As the Head of the DMLE, people knew what kind of person she was. However, despite the hard, cold woman she made herself out to be, one thing she was, something she didn't show publicly, was that she is also a kind and caring person. So when she sees a child, lost and distressed, then she wasn't going to just move along and do nothing.
As she was the legal guardian of her niece, Susan Bones, it was her responsibility to look after her. When she arrived with Susan at the platform, to make sure she got onto the train, safely, to Hogwarts, she saw a lost boy, who seemed to be the same age as Susan. Even the boys owl seemed anxious. The luggage on the trolley he was pushing told her he was on his way to Hogwarts and judging by the fact that he wasn't sure where to go, he was either a Muggleborn, or a wizard from a magical family, raised in the Muggle world, which had become pretty common after the war with You-Know-Who was over. Keeping Susan close, she approached the boy and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, an action which caused the boy to jump.
…
When Harry turned around, he saw a woman with a girl his age behind him. The young girl was the same height as him, with bright blue eyes and her hair was a bright ginger, done in a long double plait, stopping at her chest. The woman beside her, must've been her mother or some other relative. She looked stern, her eyes the same as the girl, except her hair was short, barley reaching her shoulders and her hair was a more darker in colour, though Harry could see strands of grey mixed in as well.
"Are you okay?" The woman asked, voice soothing
"Umm…yes…" Harry replied, a little nervous "I'm…I'm just lost"
"You're looking for the platform to get to Hogwarts" the woman said, a statement, more than a question
"How did you know?" Harry asked
"I'm a witch, like my niece Susan, she's starting her First Year like yourself" Amelia smiled reassuringly, gesturing to the girl beside her, Susan, who smiled and gave Harry a small wave "My name is Amelia Bones, what's your name?"
"Harry…Harry Potter" Harry responded
"Are you really?" Amelia asked, before noticing the scar peaking out from under his black hair, whilst Susan's eyes widened dramatically "Well, Harry, tell me…where are your relatives, surely someone brought you here?"
"One of the people from Hogwarts did" Harry replied, nervously "His name was Hagrid…my aunt and uncle…they…they didn't want to come…they're not…fond of magic"
Amelia didn't like the sound of that. She could tell there was something Harry wasn't telling her, but she chose not to push it for the time being.
"Well Harry, if you will let me, I can take you to the Platform" She said
Harry nodded slowly, happy that someone was willing to help him. With a smile, Amelia led him further down the station, stopping a short distance away from a large pillar, with the signs 9 and 10 on either side. Harry felt confused and looked up to Amelia for an explanation.
"Now" Amelia said "What you are going to need to do, is walk through that pillar there between the signs 9 and 10…if you're nervous, then I recommend a run up"
Harry looked for any signs of her misleading him, but he could see nothing. With a reassuring nudge from Susan, beside him, Harry pushed his trolley as he walked towards the pillar. A walk that turned into a jog and then a full on sprint. Harry closed his eyes, as he got closer to the pillar. Instead of expecting to hit a wall, he felt a strange feeling surround him, almost like he was going through a tunnel. He opened his eyes when the feeling passed, to see he was in a completely different place. In front of him was crimson train, titled the Hogwarts Express. A sign reading 9 ¾ hanging above him. Harry couldn't help but smile at the sight in front of him. He was snapped from his thoughts when he heard a sound coming from the wall behind him. He stepped out of the way, and just in time, as Amelia and Susan appeared through the wall just a few short seconds later.
"That wasn't so bad was it?" Amelia smiled "Now, you better hurry, the train will be leaving in just a few short minutes…if you wish, you can stick by Susan, she'll look after you and answer any questions you may have…got it Susan?"
"Yes Auntie" Susan replied, giving her aunt a hug "Come on Harry"
Harry smiled, appreciatively, to Amelia before following Susan. Seeing as these people helped him, he was planning on sticking with them.
…
Amelia frowned as Harry walked off with Susan. As she had been working in law enforcement for many years, she was extremely observant. She was able to see things most didn't. Those clothes on Harry seemed to be at least three sizes too big for him. His glasses seemed cracked and broken. He was unkempt and from what she could see, he was way too thin. Amelia hoped that she was wrong, but she felt like there was a case of child abuse happening behind closed doors. It would probably explain the hesitation in Harry's voice when talking about his relatives. In the Magical World, any kind of abuse towards a magical child was illegal and could see the abusers locked in Azkaban or one of the muggle prisons. However, before she did anything, before she had aurors busting down his relatives doors, she was going to have to find out more. After waiting until Harry and Susan boarded the train, Amelia apparated away, disappearing from view, leaving a cloud of dust behind.
…
Susan led Harry into an empty compartment. She may not be as observant as her aunt, she still had much to learn, but she could see that Harry was extremely nervous and felt like being surrounded by others wouldn't be the best thing to do. Especially when they find out who he is. Susan was surprised when Harry said who he was. She had seen many pictures of Harry in the many books written about him and he looked nothing like the pictures made him out to be. Susan had long since figured out the books were complete lies and entirely fiction. Seeing Harry in the flesh, for her, confirmed it. Helping Harry put his hand held luggage on the racks above the seats, Susan noticed he was still quite nervous as he sat down.
"I guess this is overwhelming for you?" Susan asked
"A little" Harry nodded "I…I didn't know about magic…I didn't know that I was a wizard until Hagrid arrived with my letter"
"Didn't your aunt or uncle tell you anything?" Susan asked
"No…they weren't fond of magic" Harry shook his head, repeating his answer from earlier "They…I…I don't think they wanted me to know"
Susan couldn't help but notice Harry started rubbing his shoulder as he was talking. She opened her mouth, to speak, only to be interrupted by the compartment door opening. It was her friend, Hannah Abbot. A bubbly girl, with long, blonde hair and blue eyes.
"There you are Susan" She said, sitting beside her "I've been looking all over the train for you"
"I'm sorry Hannah" Susan replied "We got held up for a moment"
"Really…who's this?" Hannah asked, noticing Harry was sitting opposite her
"This is Harry" Susan replied
"Harry who?" Hannah asked, before seeing the scar poking out from under his hair "Oh my god…you're Harry Potter!"
"Hannah, be quiet" Susan said, noticing Harry tense up slightly
Hannah looked to Susan, before looking back to Harry, who had shrunk back in his seat a bit. Confused she turned back to Susan.
"Okay, you're going to need to explain" She said
…
Amelia walked up the stairs leading to Gringotts. If she wanted answers to her questions, then this was the place to start looking for those answers. If James and Lily made a will, including custody of Harry should anything happen to them, then it would help find out who had him in their care and it would also tell them find their location. The hustle and bustle of Goblins working quietened slightly, noticing Amelia enter. They kept a close eye on her as they worked. Amelia meant them no harm, but she knew of their caution. Many people had tried breaking into Gringotts at many points in history, just to try and get their hands on some Galleons. A dumb and foolish thing to do, in Amelia's opinion. Stopping at the front desk, she cleared her throat politely, to the Goblin who sat, writing in some documents. The cough alerted the Goblin, who put down his quill and sat up straight in his chair.
"How may I assist you today" They said impassively
"I need to speak with whoever I can, regarding the custody and whereabouts of a child" Amelia replied "It's quite urgent and if my suspicions are correct, I believe there are signs of neglect"
"I'm sure we can help" the Goblin replied "Of course, it depends on the child…may I ask who the child is?"
"Harry Potter" Amelia replied
"I see" The Goblin leant back in his seat "If you'll follow me"
Amelia followed the Goblin down one of the many corridors in Gringotts, passing by many doors with family crests. Before they came across the door with the Potter family crest, consisting of A Griffin standing in front of a Golden shield, its wings wrapping around a sword. The Goblin lead her inside and had her sit down. The Goblin then left, returning mere moments later, with another goblin behind him, before leaving once more. The doors closing behind him with a soft slam.
"I am Silver-Blood" The other Goblin said, sitting behind the desk "I am the accountant for the Potter family…I understand you have questions regarding Harry Potter"
"Indeed" Amelia replied "I have reasons to believe that Harry is being neglected…I was hoping to find out if there were any legal documents regarding custody of Harry should the worst happen to James and Lily"
"I see" Silver-Blood said, as he pulled out a draw, and removed a scroll "Of course, I can not show you their full will…that is for the eyes of those who are a part of the Potter family, but I can show you the legal documents regarding Harry…it should also contain the current ownership, it's often updated whenever custody is handed over"
Amelia took the scroll and opened the seal and read through the contents:
Final Will and Testament of James and Lily Potter:
In the event of our deaths, custody of our son, Harry James Potter, should be handed to one of these individuals listed below:
Sirius Black (Godfather)
Alice Longbottom (Godmother)
Andromeda Tonks
Fleamont and Euphemia Potter (Deceased)
No matter what happens, custody of Harry should never be given to Vernon and Petunia Dursley. They may be his aunt and uncle, but they are vile people who hate anything and everything to do with magic.
Current ownership of Harry James Potter:
Vernon and Petunia Dursley, of 4 Privet Drive
"Accountant Silver-Blood, this shouldn't be possible" Amelia spoke after reading through the document twice over "They've clearly stated in their will that custody of Harry shouldn't be placed in the hands of his aunt and uncle, but for whatever reason, he's been placed in their care"
"I admit, I find it odd myself" Silver-Blood replied "But as we are merely Goblins, we are forbidden from engaging in the affairs of wizards, without permission…however, if I may, I would like to address another issue"
"What is that?" Amelia asked
"In the list of those who is to be granted custody, they've listed Sirius Black" Silver-Blood replied
"I know, everyone knows the story" Amelia said "He betrayed the Potters, informing You-Know-Who of his location, he was then put in Azkaban being found near the scene of the crime"
"I wouldn't be so sure of that" Silver-Blood replied "You see, he is listed as Harry's godfather and I remember, all those years ago, when James and Lily Potter came into this room with Sirius Black, to perform the Godfathers oath"
"The Godfathers Oath?" Amelia repeated "But that's not possible…if he went through with the Godfathers Oath then he should be dead"
"Exactly" Silver-Blood nodded "And I was there when the Oath was made…if he wanted to betray the Potters, he couldn't, for he the conditions of his Oath would have killed him, as soon as he gave the Potters location to You-Know-Who"
"Thank you Silver-Blood" Amelia said, as she stood up "You've helped a lot, but I must leave now…it seems there is a lot of injustice that needs to be made fair"
"You are welcome madam" Silver-Blood replied "I'm glad to of been of help"
Amelia nodded and left the room. Her knuckles went white as her hands clenched into fists. First Harry was placed somewhere he wasn't supposed to and now a man who's been locked up for nearly 12 years might actually be innocent. She was going to head over to the Ministry and try and find any documents regarding Sirius Blacks imprisonment and also, head over to where Vernon and Petunia Dursley currently reside, and see if her fears of Harry being abused are true.
And whoever placed Harry in there care…well, it's safe to say their heads are going to roll for this.
…
Done. What did you guys think?
From this first chapter alone, I think you can tell how different this story is going to be from canon. Immediatley, Amelia Bones knows of Harry's child abuse and that Sirius might be innocent. If this issues are resolved sooner rather then later, how will the rest of the story play out? Well, I hope you choose to stick around so you can find out, because my lips are sealed.
Remember, if you have a story idea you would like to see me write, do let me know. I do take requests.
That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed and I hope to see you next time.
