Chapter 2

:::Flashback:::

And so, the trip with Emily, Kim, and Leah the bitch began. They arrived in Flagstaff to refuel and use the restroom. They stopped again in Marble Canyon. They planned to go all the way to Idaho and that was close enough to Washington. That's where Charlie, her father, lived.

You can escape from your fears, from your problems, from a dog that chases you, from love...or in Bella's case, you can escape from home when they treat you like shit, you can escape with strangers who initially attacked you, and have been trying to gain your trust through delicious candy, you can escape from a convenience store you robbed. Yes, Bella had managed to escape. But what you can't escape from is hunger. Reason number one why they robbed that store.

Leah had convinced her to rob that store in Moab, Utah that was now lost on the road as Emily sped up the car. That was her first big robbery and it felt fucking great.

And so that was her life, shoplifting at convenience stores and being cool after smoking some weed, she just hoped she didn't get addicted to that shit.

One day while they were in Springville, Emily came back with a lot of food and money, they didn't know where she got it from, but they enjoyed it. After a few days, we found out: "The population of Springville is on alert because of some crimes that have been going on recently, armed robberies on the highways, robberies at convenience stores, and the latest a robbery at a house located to the north..." Bella turned off the TV in the hotel room and they looked at Leah.

"Don't look at me like that!" Bella arched an eyebrow. "Bella you of all people are the one to do it! I did it for your damn candy!" Then she threw a lollipop in her face and Bella began to lick it. At least it had been for a good cause.

::: End flashback :::

The only thing she explained to Charlie was that she would be living with him, and he was happy, got a pizza and they watched a game on the plasma. Great. For the moment, Charlie was being an easy nut to crack.

"But... why?" he had put his arms up in a jar and his brow furrowed. The man still couldn't get out of his stupefied state.

"I just don't like Phoenix, not anymore. I'd rather come here... besides, I had already told Renee." Bella lied and dipped her hands in the pockets of her shorts. "But she's in Jacksonville, I'm sure she forgot to call you."

"Oh, so if that's so...go ahead!" The old man smiled, and Bella breathed easy.

Then, Charlie offered to pay the shipping costs for Bella's things, but she refused.

"Mom left me money for that. Don't worry...Now what you should be worrying about is giving me money for my room." She pointed to the ceiling, toward the room. "It's a mess."

"Yeah, well...we were waiting for you." He muttered awkwardly trying to lighten the mood. Bella rolled her eyes and Charlie stopped insisting.

About Renee's money, well, that was a lie but Bella wasn't going to tell her policeman father that, in fact, the money was taken from John's millionaire's house. Charlie had no business finding that out.

In the evening, only a couple of hours later, Bella was completely tired but needed to take a bath. The shampoo relaxed her a bit and without even bothering to cover her underwear with pajamas, she lay down to sleep in the bed.

In the morning, Bella woke up late but Charlie still wasn't leaving for the station and promised her a present. It was the least the old man could do for offering to keep her company. After breakfast, Bella realized she needed to buy some personal items but the only car available was Charlie's squad car and she wouldn't go all over Forks in that shit; so she grabbed her bike but remembered that sexy thieving guy had ruined it.

"Charlie, do you think you can help me with this?" She asked when she stepped out onto the porch, kicked the tire and Charlie came over and took a look at it.

"Sure, I have a tire in the garage, I'll be right back" he got up with a groan and left.

Bella stood there; arms crossed waiting for him when she heard a horn honk. She turned and squinted to cover her eyes from the dim sun.

There, just a few feet away, was a super white car.

"Hey!" a male voice called from there, then she saw Edward and another boy was driving. The sound of music was coming through the rolled-down window.

"Edward?" she called him.

"I just stopped by to say hello" he half smiled, and his voice trailed off. He was definitely drunk or coming off a hangover. "Bye-bye, Belly Bells!" he hit the driver, the boy with him let out a laugh and the car was gone as quickly as it came, leaving Bella all confused.

"Who was that?" Charlie was carrying a tire.

"Ehh...I think his name is Edward" she muttered without taking her eyes off the road, where the car was not visible.

"Ah, Cullen…" Bella finally looked at him and frowned, confused. "Edward Cullen." Charlie completed and started working on the bicycle. "Don't go near him...He's a rowdy, troublesome, womanizing boy."

Bella smiled. Damn, it was too good to be true.

"Boo, Charlie! You can't forbid me whom to talk to," she chuckled.

"Yes I can...and I'm 'dad'." She rolled her eyes and ignored him. She tapped her foot against the floor. "Ready!" Charlie announced and Bella walked over. She mounted the bike and gave a pedal.

"You're great, Cha..." he raised an eyebrow. "Dad" she corrected herself.

"That's right."

"I'll be back in a while, I'm going for a walk," then she started to walk away slowly.

"Sure..." he waved goodbye. "Oh! And... Bella?" She looked at him over her shoulder. "No Edward Cullen." He emphasized with his finger.

"Sure, Dad" she smiled at him. Charlie entered the house after nodding his head and Bella chuckled.

How outrageous, troublesome, and womanizing could Edward Cullen be? It was clear that Charlie didn't know about her own history...it was better that way.

"What time are those idiots supposed to arrive?" Rosalie asked after looking at the time on her iPhone.

"Alice said they were on their way" replied Jasper from his place on the couch.

"Where's your mom, Em?" Rosalie asked again and leaned over to sip her drink. She raised the straw to her lips and looked at Emmett. Emmett stirred in his place.

"In her room... by the way, I'll be right back" he muttered feigning distraction, and took off up the stairs. He knocked lightly on the door of his mother's room. No one answered, still he opened the door.

The room was dark, and the thick curtain was closed to keep out what little afternoon light there was.

"Mom?" Emmett called her in murmurs. The woman was on the bed, tangled among the quilts. Her hair was disheveled and her breathing paced. Emmett pursed his lips. "Mom?"

"Em? Is that you?" He snorted softly. Who else would it be?

"Yes, ma. It's me" he walked over to her and sat on the edge of the big bed. "How are you?"

"A little better" she replied. Emmett's mother, Clarence, was always a little better.

Emmett wanted to tell her exactly that: you're always a little better and you just never get better.

"Well, all right," he answered softly. "I'll be downstairs with the boys...with everyone...Don't you want to say hello to them?"

"And have them see me like this? No, Em. My pills make me sleepy; I should be sleeping."

"Okay," he replied resignedly. A moment of silence and he thought his mother had already fallen asleep, not quite but she was. "Hey, ma..."

Clarence opened her sleepy eyes and looked up at him, even though she wasn't really seeing him.

"Mhm?"

"When are you going to quit? The pills, your depression... everything." Emmett's stomach knotted and his eyes filled with unshed tears.

"Soon, son. I promise...it's just that I miss your father."

"I miss him too, and I'm not stoned all the time," he replied, not wanting to argue. His mother glared at him.

"How can you say that? Go away, go away, Emmett. Don't come back. I'm tired." Then she rolled onto her side and closed her eyes, completely oblivious to the pain she was causing the boy.

Emmett stood still for a few seconds and then, without another word or complaint, left the room for the living room. Edward and Alice had already arrived.

When midnight struck, Rosalie and Emmett were already drunk and playing at balancing on one foot and laughing as if it was the funniest thing to do, now, if Emmett fell that would be fun. Edward walked past him and pushed him on purpose, Emmett fell and hit his face on the coffee table in his mom's living room. Edward threw his head back and laughed loudly.

"Grow up, will you?" he yelled at him, and Edward laughed louder.

Emmett, and everyone, was aware that neither the music nor the screaming or the laughter was going to wake Emmett's mother. They knew what it was all about and, even though they felt bad for him, there was no way to really help him because it wasn't their fault, much less Emmett's. The only ones to blame were Clarence and her selfishness. Just like that.

After several more drinks and a couple more hours, the mood was dying so Edward plopped down on the couch and looked around. Rosalie was asleep on the couch; Jasper was playing with his phone and Emmett was sitting on the floor looking thoughtful as he stared out the open window. Alice crawled over to Edward and sat down next to him.

"Edwaaaaaard!" she crooned softly.

"What?" Edward closed his eyes slowly and leaned his head back against the back of the couch. He set the half-drunk beer down on the small table.

"Something like what? Since when do we have secrets here?" Edward looked around.

"It's not about that." Alice looked at him expectantly. "I know where Bella lives."

"What?"

"Are you an idiot or what? Bella..." Alice said making him remember, although Edward did remember her, just Alice had misunderstood. "I don't know how the fuck you don't know where the Chief of Police lives but from now on you're going to know."

"And what the fuck are you waiting for to talk?" Edward grumbled. Alice smiled at him.

Did Alice want him to go off and go into Bella's room and give her the Cullen Combo and fold her into her bed while the Boss slept peacefully in the side room? Well, that didn't sound bad at all.

Edward sighed and she put her peach lips to his ear.

.

.

.

"Hey, old man!" Edward kicked Jasper in the ribs and the blond grumbled.

"Get away from me, Fofito! ─ Edward let out a hoarse laugh.

"I'm not your fucking dog, old man. Now get your ass up!"

Jasper sat up, rubbed his eyes, and gave Edward an ugly look. Edward smiled at him.

"Take that bitch look off, baby." Jasper flashed him the middle finger. Edward laughed again and dipped his hands in his pocket. "I need you to do me a favor."

"What?" Jasper grumbled again and squinted, looking up at Edward from his spot on the floor.

"I need you to take me to Chief Swan's house," Edward muttered. Jasper's eyes went wide.

"What the fuck, man? The man's got a gun. What the fuck's gotten into you?!" he muttered as he stood up.

"You just take me." Edward slapped him hard on the back and Jasper staggered. Then, the brown-haired man walked out of Emmett's house, but not before grabbing half a bottle of rum that was lying around and putting on his Ray Ban's.

Jasper drove as best he could in his white car to the Swan house. Edward was completely confident but shit his pants when he saw Bella outside standing next to his bike. She looked damn cute; she looked like she was wearing push-up jeans or something because her ass looked so good.

"Hey!" he called to her from the car window as Jasper pulled up. She turned and squinted.

"Edward?"

Edward didn't know what else to say. It was as if you planned to say everything and at that moment you forgot everything, the same feeling that fills you when you have to speak in front of the whole class.

"I just stopped by to say hi." He mumbled because that had been the only thing his fried brain could process. "Bye, Belly Bells!" he punched Jasper in the arm to get them the fuck out of there. Jasper threw his head back and laughed, speeding up.

"What the fuck was that, man?! After the flirting with Jessica or Tamy, I expected better" that blond idiot was still so drunk he didn't even remember Tanya's name so Edward ignored his words. "You should do better if you want to get in her pants." Well, he wouldn't ignore his words much.

"I simply wanted to know if what Alice had said was true," Edward said so Jasper would stop picking on him.

Besides, it hadn't been his fault. Just Bella's and her damn push-up jeans.

.

.

.

The amazing gift Charlie had for Bella was a bulbous-looking old red pickup truck that was the coolest.

He gave it to her two days after she arrived in Forks and she had to admit she had hit it right on the money because she wouldn't be cruising all over Forks in that crappy patrol car of his.

Bella rode the geezer all over town to get to know it better and discovered that Forks now had two main streets.

And as it turned out, Chief Swan had two gifts for her: the truck and enough money to fix up her room.

"... And this money is for your room because I don't think it's nice enough." He was right. The room was depressing and empty. It needed personality and Bella had plenty of that.

Bella had scheduled packages to be delivered with her things even if she didn't make it to Washington, so the first packages arrived: some of her clothes and some of her books and CDs.

She wanted to change that shitty room, but Forks still didn't have enough stores to do that and she was afraid the van wouldn't make it all the way to Port Angeles, it was too much of a risk. The thing was cool, but it was old, Bella was pretty sure the van existed before the first cell on Earth. The thing was likely to get stuck in the middle of the road and could be eaten by a deer or anything else roaming the woods.

So she sought out the only one who could help her so far. She sent a message to Alice:

Alice, do you think you could do me a big favor? Take me to Port Angeles because I need to remodel my room

Alice didn't refuse and they immediately began their journey. Alice was cool too.

The rest of the day they spent painting the walls and preparing their decorating tools. Bella told her about Edward, about the bike thing, and about the express visit he had made to her house. Then Bella learned that Edward was Alice's friend. The best friend.

"It's looking great." Alice looked around with her arms up in a jar. Bella gave her a quick glance into space without taking her mind off Alice and Edward being best friends. She'd better keep her secrets if she didn't want Edward to know them and think she had a direct, nonstop, round trip to his pants.

.

.

.

When Edward was sleeping in his room someone opened the door and let in a lot of light. Edward wasn't at all nice when he wasn't allowed to sleep.

"Get up already, you slacker!" Emmett came in yelling. Edward groaned and threw a pillow over his head.

"Come on, get up little lion!" Jasper plopped down on the bed without permission and began to pull him up.

"Get the fuck out of here!" he growled. They laughed.

"You should be thankful we brought the good news," Emmett said and plopped down in the desk chair.

"What?" Edward asked in an interested voice. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.

"Your clean clothes" Jasper put the pile in his lap and Edward flashed him the middle finger before giving him a poisonous look. The blond chuckled and rolled his thumbs in his suspenders. Edward rolled his eyes. Emmett whistled under his breath.

"What the fuck time is it?" Edward questioned again and looked around trying to find his alarm clock.

"It's already 3:00" Emmett replied looking at his iPhone.

"And why are you waking me up so early?"

"We have a party," Jasper announced and Edward rolled his eyes. Annoyed, he ran a hand through his hair. "At Ali's."

"And?" he shrugged. "I'm not a fucking girl to start getting dressed up from now on if the party's going to be in the wee hours of the morning."

"You look like a fucking girl, man," Emmett whined.

"Get off your ass already, Cullen!" Jasper shrieked in despair. "We're going to Port Angeles to play pool."

"Why not go to the bar in Forks?" They laughed.

"Are we going to mess with the old people here? I want to go to One-Eyed Pete, so get a move on." Edward growled again and finally got up.

Once he was ready, they left the Cullen cottage and went to Rosalie's. According to their plans, they would go to Rosalie's house and get drunk and then head to PA.

Rosalie got grumpy because she wasn't going to drink and started complaining all the way there about being the designated driver. Rosalie was a pain in the ass.

"Rosalie, is there a point to you still bitching like a bitch? You don't even drink" Alice rolled her eyes.

"I do drink. Just not like you alcoholics. I'm not allowed to get drunk. I'll order a virgin margarita."

Jasper clicked his tongue in disagreement. Rosalie was a baby.

"Your thing with cheerleading doesn't let you?" Emmett asked.

"Yeah, besides, alcohol will make me old sooner."

Edward groaned and turned up the music. She gave him an ugly look, but he ignored her.

Actually, Rosalie also had another reason not to drink: she repudiated her father, so that meant she didn't want to look or be like him. To her luck, Rosalie was the spitting image of her mother.

William, her father, had married her mother for love; but everything changes. Overnight, that was gone, and alcohol took a place at the dinner table. William would yell at her and sometimes even hit Lillian, Rosalie's mother.

Rosalie hated him.

The guys thought they knew about it, but at the same time, they didn't believe it. William always looked neat and groomed, nothing compared to an alcoholic. They were the perfect blonde family but only they knew what was really going on inside the walls. The guys gave up on the whole thing and believed it all wasn't true. Well, they were wrong.

When they arrived in Port Angeles, the girls took a table, and they went over to play pool. They returned home with deep pockets. As they approached downtown Forks, Edward forced Rosalie to stop a few blocks from Bella's house and, naturally, she became angry.

Neither she nor Emmett understood what Edward intended but Alice and Jasper were laughing. Edward let them leave with the promise that he would see them in a moment at Ali's and started walking toward the sweet Swan home.

Then, he thought. How was he supposed to get in? Was Bella supposed to let him in? There was a tree there but... How would he know where Bella Good Ass Swan's room was?

A window was open, and music could be heard from there. Bingo. He didn't think Shit Swan liked Taylor Swift or that shit with her "Love Story".

It was hard to climb the tree while drunk but if he fell it wouldn't hurt that much.

The worst was when he got mud and leaves all over his pants. Those jeans were expensive; he held onto the window sill and looked inside. The curtain was open and Bella was lying on her bed on her stomach reading something and her butt waved at him from there.

He walked in through the open window and his feet made a thump on the floor. She jumped in fright and looked up at him.

"Hello, Bella, how are you?" Edward greeted her. He had leaned back in her desk chair because he had bent his foot so he could rest a bit, but his pose was totally relaxed. He tried to move closer but the pain in his foot prevented him.

"What are you doing here? How did you get in?!" she shrieked between surprised and confused.

"Shhhh!" he put a finger to her lips. "Your dad will come over here if he hears you and remember he hates me."

She got up from the bed and folded her arms.

"My dad's not here, he went to La Push." She muttered. "Get out of here, you stink."

"Oh, thanks" he shrugged, then listened to her. "What? What do you mean your dad's not here?! You should have told me and then I would have walked in the door."

Bike Girl rolled her eyes.

"First, I didn't know you were coming in case you hadn't noticed." She said like a damn smartass. "And second, you should have looked for the patrol car. That's what you get for not being invited."

"Yeah, yeah…" He downplayed it with a wave of his hand. "I'm not leaving. I came here for something exciting."

She rolled her eyes again. Did she have a twitch or what the fuck? Edward was beginning to think she did.

"I don't have anything exciting to give you, so go away." She walked over to her desk and turned up the volume on her iPod.

"God, can you turn that shit off?! I'm drunk and the Swift girl isn't helping." He complained, and the girl ignored him. Bella Swan could be a bitch too.

"Hey, nice room!" Edward looked around. He needed something to say, he had run out of ideas and that never happened. Maybe because by now, Tanya would already be hugging him and rubbing her not-so-tender breasts against his arm.

"Thanks, your friend Alice helped me." She said. "Though it's not finished yet." Bella kicked a paint can lightly.

Edward nodded his head without stopping looking around. He drummed his fingers against his ribs.

"Wait! How do you know Alice is my friend?" He asked and sat down on the bed. Edward thought Alice hadn't mentioned anything to Bella about him. Damn.

"She told me." Bella shrugged and plunged her hands into her back pockets.

She had started to get nervous because she didn't know what was going to happen now or if, in fact, anything was going to happen or, at least, she was thinking about what she was going to say next.

She bit her mouth.

She lay down on her bed and all Edward did was sit there next to her. He wanted to place a hand on her knee, but he didn't want to push his luck, maybe he would get a black eye.

They sank into a deep silence and Edward looked down at her. She had her eyes closed and her lips were moving slowly as she sang the song that played without a sound. God, she was so cute and sensual. Edward cleared his throat and asked:

"What made you come here?"

Bella took a deep breath of air and blew the air out slowly through her nose, her shoulders relaxed, and Edward felt like doing the same.

"It's something complex to explain... I'd better tell you how I did it." Without waiting for any nod, Bella kept talking." I left Phoenix by bike and on the way I met some girls, we traveled in their car and robbed some convenience stores and some houses." Edward let out a laugh and Bella opened her eyes. She looked at him and hit him on the forehead with the palm of her hand.

"Ow, I'm sorry!" he complained as he rubbed his forehead. "What else?" She sighed and closed her eyes. She moved her foot to the beat of the music.

"We got as far as Lewiston in Idaho. They dropped me off there and I rode my bike to Clarkston, there I ran into Jane and Alec...They were pussies, they were arguing about everything." Bella chuckled. Edward half smiled and wanted to touch her hair. He didn't. "So, they dropped me off in Seattle, then I took a cab to Port Angeles and then to Forks. End of story." She shrugged.

This girl was outrageous. Edward liked her, but he still wanted to know what the fuck had made her leave Phoenix and come to that small town. He was dying to ask but he didn't. Then Bella told him she'd gotten a job.

Then Bella told him that she had gotten a job. What? A job?

The only job Edward had ever done was when Carlisle decided to play daddy and made him do shit around the house, that's when he played the man ward. Son of a bitch. Edward got a sore on his hand when he held the hammer. Emmett laughed at him for a whole month.

When Bella went to the kitchen to get "something," Edward took the opportunity and rummaged through her things. He read the titles of some books she had lying around and found a thong in a drawer. He quickly put it in his pocket and just as quickly as he did, when Bella came back, she threw him out of the house.

Then, Edward Cullen was done being convinced that Bella Swan was a bitch.

Bella breathed easy when Edward stopped infesting her house. She put a hand to her chest and tried to calm her crazy heart.

.

.

.

"Where are we going?" Alice asked when she saw Rosalie turn off the road. "We're supposed to go to my house."

"We'll get to mine first. I have to get some clothes." Rosalie replied.

"Oh, okay." Alice shrugged her shoulders and continued talking to Jasper. Emmett was silent as he looked out the window.

Rosalie glanced at him but decided not to speak to him, then rested her eyes on the road.

"Wait here." She said when she stopped outside her house. "I won't be long."

They didn't look at her and Emmett turned up the music. Rosalie entered the house and quickly headed for the stairs.

"Rosie, is that you?" Her father called to her from the great hall. Rosalie froze and a lump rose in her throat. She took a deep breath.

"Yes." She answered and, ready to keep climbing, she grabbed hold of the handrail.

"Come here, little Rosie."

«Oh no,» She thought.

Then she quietly approached where William stood.

"What?" she asked. William was sitting on the couch and holding a shot of whiskey in his hand resting on the armrest. Rose folded her arms.

"Where are you going?"

"To Alice's." She replied in a dry voice. "Where's mom?"

William let out a hoarse laugh. Rose's hair stood up on the back of her neck and her blood boiled.

"In her room... She went away crying."

"What did you do to her?!" She asked in a fierce voice. She clenched her fists and stepped forward.

"Me? Did I have to do something to her? Honestly, I don't remember." Rosalie clicked her teeth and after giving a look full of disgust to the man sitting in front of her, she ran upstairs and with a jerk opened the door to her mother's room.
