Bip* *Bip* *Bip*

I quickly rise from my pillow, taking my phone and turning off the alarm... 7 AM, nice, I got one hour to get ready... Wait, sorry I think I should introduce myself first.

My name is Yumi Doujima and I am 15 years old. Today is my first day at Sakuragaoka High school! Many girls my age would be stressed or indifferent to starting high school, but my case is different.

I'm not only entering high school today, no, today is the day I get to turn my dream into reality! What do I mean by that? To explain, we have to go back ten years in the past, specifically to the culture festival at Sakuragaoka. Long story short, the Show of the Light music club blew me away; I don't know what it was but I felt something I had never felt before, it was such a strong feeling in fact that I ended up running to the stage and somehow I got a photo with all the members of the band. My memories of that day are kinda fuzzy but I still remember the promise I made to myself that when I was old enough I would enter Sakuragaoka and be a part of the music club. With that in mind I have spent the last ten years learning guitar and music in general so I can bring the club to the same level of greatness of that old club I saw so many years ago...

"Wait how long have I been staring at this photo?" I said while I checked the time on my phone, 7:10, alright I didn't lose that much time luckily…

By the time I was done it was already 7:45. "Okay I took a bath, dressed up in my uniform and ate some breakfast, alright it's time to g—"

"Yumi…?" Oh, right I forgot to say goodbye to mom!

"Oh, mom! I'm leaving for school, tell dad I said goodbye alright?" I said while I put on my shoes. "Wait, Yumi! What's the time?" Mom said while rubbing her eyes.

"It's... 7:46."

"And you're already going? The reception for the first years isn't until 8:30." She sighed slightly. "Yeah, I want to get a good look at the place before classes start!"

"But when we enrolled you, you got a tour of the—"

"Alright mom, love ya, I'm going!" I opened the main door of the house and rushed outside. I just couldn't keep wasting time talking, I had to get to Sakuragaoka as fast as possible.

Entering Sakuragaoka was like being in a dream. The cherry blossom petals were falling onto the path at the entrance, and the early light of the sun gave everything such a relaxing tone. I looked around while I walked towards the school; there weren't any other students, which made me a bit anxious, but the school gates were open, so I guess there's nothing wrong with me entering this early.

Finally entering the building, I took a look at the lockers right in front of me. "I should probably change my shoes." I took a seat on the benches in front of the lockers.

"Hey!" The sudden noise made me fling one of my shoes into the lockers in front of me. I quickly looked to my right to see the source of the voice.

It was a man, a tall one, wearing some kind of blue-ish uniform with some white details on the shoulders and a cap on his head. I think he's a guard. He looked at my uniform and checked the color of my ribbon.

"Are you a first year student?" He asked while trying to give a calm smile, although this guy clearly wasn't a soft smiler.

"Y-Yeah, Mister, I-I wanted to check out the place before classes," I tried saying even though my voice was hardly coming out, but luckily the guard heard my whispers.

"Oh, alright, I was just a bit surprised to see a student this early, since most first years usually arrive at around 8:25, and some come late, you know." As he talked, I slowly began to feel less and less stressed.

"Really?" My tone came back to normal.

"Yeah, there's no real problem with you coming so early, but before you go some let me give you quick info: First off, I'm Haruki Hidetoshi, just call me Mr. Hidetoshi, you can come to me whenever you have any serious issues, since I'm the head of security around here. Secondly, the third floor is off-limits today, and lastly the faculty room is on the second floor right next to the stairs, although I don't recommend you going now since everyone is pretty busy. Well, now I'm gonna stay in my office, have a look around but remember at 8:30 you go directly to the auditorium ok?"

"Yes!" I said while I started to wave with my hand and started walking away.

"Oh, I forgot, what's your name?" Mr. Hidetoshi asked me.

"Oh, Yumi Doujima, that's my name!"

"Alright then Doujima-san, take care."

"Thanks, bye!"

I wandered through Sakuragaoka's halls and checked my phone, 8:20. I looked over at the window and to my surprise, about only four girls had arrived... Wait… that one… I started running out of the building.

"Rei-Chan!" I shouted as I opened my arms to hug her.

"Good morning Yu—" Her greeting was quickly stopped as I practically tackled her in a hug. "Ok, Y-Yumi that's enough!"

The girl that's in my arms right now is Rei Sasaki. I met her in middle school, and she took an interest in my guitar, during recess she asked questions about it and just like that we ended up becoming best friends. After a while of the two of us talking she wanted to start learning the guitar, but ended up choosing the bass since it had less strings and was "easier", as she said.

"Sorry, I'm just really excited today!" I said.

"Yeah I noticed, so how long have you been here?"

"About 8 am, I been wandering through the school."

"Geez, I knew you were excited to enter here but still."

"Come on ain't this great?!"

"Well, I guess it's kinda exciting…"

"Right?! After classes we have to go directly to the faculty room to get the music club opened!" "R-Right, just calm down alright?"

"Yeah yeah, wait... you didn't bring your bass?"

"Uhh, no? Why would I, it's the first day of class."

"What do you expect to do in the club today?"

"I'm not sure if clubs are open on day one, Yumi."

"Why wouldn't they be open on the first day? It's easier to get it over with as quickly as possible." "Well we'll see. Let's go to the auditorium, I think it's time."

I started to look around, and to my surprise the campus was completely full. "How long have we been talking? Well I guess we gotta go to the auditorium."

"Ughhhhh, what a pain... How long was that speech?" I said while we walked to our classroom.

"Two hours," Rei said while trying to regain her composure after something I can only describe as "torture".

"Geez, that's excessive right? My back is killing me."

"Well, prepare yourself because the sitting has not ended. We have about an hour and a half more of this."

"Aghhhhhhh..." I hung my head low as we entered the classroom.

"Please everyone, go and take a seat," the teacher said. She a tall young woman wearing a pair of red glasses.

Rei and I made our way to some seats at the upper-right part of the classroom. It was a nice spot, it's not that I'm a slacker but to be honest I can have slacker-like tendencies sometimes. I made myself comfortable in my new seat.

"So, I guess this is the end of the excited Yumi," Rei said, looking at me with a small grin. "Nope, not at all, prepare yourself; I'm just taking a small break."

"Ahem!" My body froze as I noticed the sound coming my way. I regained my composure and looked to the front of the classroom.

"Please girls be quiet, and pay attention ok?"

"Y-Yes Sensei."

"Alright, as I was saying, my name is Nodoka Manabe, I am the social studies teacher, and also as you may have noticed I'm your homeroom teacher for the year so if you need anything come see me at the faculty room. And now there is also some other information I have..."

My mind slowly wandered off as I looked through the window beside me...

Ring!* *Ring!*

I quickly got up from my seat as the bell rang. Rei was sleeping in her seat, so I grabbed her by the shoulder and started shaking her which of course is the kind of thing your best friend does.

"Ughhh... all right... alr..." she seemed to fall asleep again so obviously I began shaking her again. "Alright! Ok! I'm up, I'm up."

"Nice, come on let's go to the faculty room, we have to find the music teacher!" "Do we have to…?"

"Come on, you can be the president of the club if you want." When she heard my small bribe Rei got up from her seat, took her bag and ran towards the door of the classroom. We made our way to the faculty room as fast as we could and stood in front of the door.

"So... This is the moment huh?"

"Yeah... how does it feel?"

"Great." I opened the door and walked inside. I looked around the room, until my eyes fell onto Manabe-sensei so I walked up to her.

"Manabe-sensei?"

"Oh, wait... Doujima-san and Sasaki-san, right?"

"Y-Yeah, uhhhh, would you show me who the music teacher is please?"

"Yeah, she's right there, the one with glasses and brown hair."

"Thanks Manabe-sensei!" Rei and I bowed and walked towards the music teacher.

"Uhhh Miss?" The brown-haired woman looked over to us; she stared at us for a bit with this kind of judging look on her face.

"Yes?"

"You are the music teacher, right?"

"Yeah, I'm Sawako Yamanaka, what do you need girls?" She kept the same look on her face.

"W-Well, we wanted to open up the light music club." Her expression quickly changed to a soft smile but it again took a quick turn to a disappointed one.

"I'm sorry girls but I don't think that will be possible."

"What? W-Why!?" I said, feeling my whole world falling around me.

"First, you need a minimum of four members, and second we really don't have a room to give you." "But what about the music room?! This place has to have a music room!"

"I mean we have one, but since all music classes take place in the classrooms now, and the fact that no club has used it for about seven years, it has been repurposed as a storage room."

"Wha... What do you keep there?!"

"Audio equipment, the ones used in the auditorium, we used to keep it there but since it was "too cluttered" they decided to move it to the music room."

"And there's nothing we can do about it?"

Yamanaka-sensei looked troubled and she put her hand on her chin to think.

"W-Well I guess maybe you could put the equipment back where it was before, that should probably be ok, I guess…"

"We'll do it!"

"What?" Rei asked, looking at me.

"Come on, it can't be that hard you know?" I said trying to give my most confident smile. She sighed. "Alright..."

"Good! But you can't start today, since the third floor is closed for today." Sensei indicated

"Alright, thanks Yamanaka-sensei!"

The bell rang again so we started to walk to our next class.

...

The day has come to an end...

"Sooo, what did you think of the first day?" I asked Rei as we walked out of Sakuragaoka. "Well... it was middle school... again."

"Hm, yeah pretty much, I guess this is gonna be pretty fun right?"

"It depends on your definition of fun."

"Spending time with friends, going to the music club, fun things, that's fun."

"Well, I guess you're right."

We were at the gates of the school. I looked back at Sakuragaoka. I actually did it, and this is the first step.

"Well, see ya tomorrow!" Rei waved, smiling as she walked away.

"Bye! Rest a lot, we have lots of work for tomorrow!" I started walking the other way. Tomorrow was an important day for the future of the club, I still couldn't believe that it's really happening!

My face was hurting from smiling so much.
