When the Cat's Away
by Ankhsattva.

Disclaimer: I do not own Hermione, Luna or any other Harry Potter characters.

NOTES: I actually really, really like the Hermione/Luna couple. I love the dynamics and the contrasts and I just wanted to write a short fanfiction about this couple. This also contains short Ron/Luna, and hints of Harry/Ron, and Fred/Oliver.

FEMSLASH AHEAD. That means two girls romantically interested in eachother. If this isn't your thing, I suggest you leave now and spare me a flame.

Ron smiled at his girlfriend as she twirled around in front of him, beaming. "You look great, Luna. You'll be Queen of the Dance," he joked.

Luna's eyes twinkled mischievously. "And you'll be Lord of the Dance!"

Ron laughed. He had to admit, Luna did look pretty. Blue suited her, especially the soft shade of powder blue she was wearing. He twiddled his fingers behind his back, a little lost for words.

Luna noticed how nervous Ron was, and poked him in the chest. "Chin up, Ronny-boy, we're not even at the dance yet!"

Ron stopped twiddling his fingers and planted a shy kiss on Luna's cheek. "I know. And don't call me 'Ronny-boy'."

Hermione checked her watch, losing patience.

"When is that girl ever going to be on time?" she growled, brushing a dark curl out of her face. "We haven't got all night." She continued to whisper furiously to herself until she saw a flash of blue.

It was Luna, looking very pretty in a floaty dress. She was wearing an impish smile on her face but it faded when she saw Hermione's irritated expression.

"Everything okay, Hermione?" she asked, stroking her lover's arm gently.

"No, it's not!" Hermione fumed. "I've been waiting here for fifteen minutes! Do you know Harry wanted to come with me? Do you know how much I had to promise him just to get him to let me come here on my own?"

"Calm down, Hermione," Luna said calmly, a faint hint of a smile returning. "I'll make it up to you, I promise."

"You had better.." Hermione muttered grumpily, but softened when Luna slung her arm around her casually. "We can't go to the dance together, you know. Harry and Ron would have a fit."

"Harry and Ron are upstairs, making out, Hermione," Luna said.

Hermione's jaw dropped. "What? You mean they've been decieving us? Going behind our backs? How dare they? And all this time, Harry's been accusing me of spending all my time with you, even cheating on him with you! Why would he say that? Why?"

"Because it's true."

"Oh, shut up."

Ginny Weasley and her brothers Fred and George eavesdropped this little turn of events with much amusement.

"Ah, young love," Fred sighed with a hint of sarcasm. "Anyway," he checked his watch. "I had better be going or I'll be late for Oliver. See you now," he scooted off.

Ginny turned to George with a nonplussed expression of her face and asked, "Is everyone gay in this school?"
