Summary: the Dingos need a new drummer - guess who auditions?

"Devon." Oz nodded towards the lead singer of the Dingos, thinking yet again that Devon needed to relax a bit. He was always so high strung, and carried his own bottle of antacid tablets. The guy was going to get an ulcer before he was thirty if he kept it up. Assuming those were really antacids, of course.

Smiling, he looked at Oz, rubbing his hands together in something between glee and unease. "We might have a new drummer. We've needed one since Ryan got... well, I suppose it's not his fault he got killed, but it did leave us without a drummer."

"Audition?" Oz glanced around the empty building, wondering yet again how Devon had managed to get them into the Bronze while it was closed. "Wouldn't do for a drummer's style to clash."

"Oz, man, I know this is important to you, but with no drummer, we've got no band. I told him if he could play well with us, or at least as well as us, then he's in." Devon frowned slightly, always impatient.

Conceding Devon's point with a small nod, Oz looked around again. If this mystery drummer was here, then where was he? "So... the new guy?"

"Right, he's over at the stage. Oz, meet Animal." Devon gestured towards a semi circle of drums, some of which had an interesting assortment of stickers, including one from a band called 'Electric Mayhem', a name that sounded vaguely familiar to Oz. Then, a round head covered with orangeish red shaggy fur popped up, with a huge gaping mouth and rounded eyes. Wilder tufts of hair on the head made the... drummer look unforgettable. The arms were less fuzzy, a paler orange and bedecked with studded leather bracelets and a bit of broken shackle with a few links of chain on the left arm. Each orange fist held a drumstick.

Gleefully, the shocking figure looked around, and then proclaimed "Animal Drum!"

Listening to the flurry of drums and cymbals, Oz nodded slightly. "He's at least as good as Ryan. Faster tempo."

"Yeah, that's what I thought. And he's got his own drum set, so we're good to go. The Dingos are back." Devon grinned, his mind most likely turning to drinks, loud music, and groupies.

Finally, it clicked in Oz's mind where he'd heard the name 'Electric Mayhem'. It had been one of the seventies bands that his parents had listened to, had bought the albums of. The critics hadn't liked them much, but they'd had passion. Just how old was this guy? Maybe he should ask just what was this guy? But this was Sunnydale, it shouldn't be that much of a shock to see a drummer that was not quite human. He wasn't, although not to the same degree. "Yeah."

end Drummer.
