Disclaimers: Not mine

Spoilers: Jackpot. Man, I love that episode! :)

FOR HER

"Do you not keep secrets, Mr. Grissom? Not even from your wife?"

"I used to. I'm trying to change."

The conversation still rings in my head...

*****

"Grissom? Grissom!"

I snap out of my thoughts and look up at her. "Sorry, I was thinking."

"About?"

"Something the Lieutenant said."

"The Lieutenant?"

"Lieutenant Brooks from Jackpot." I explain.

"Ah yes, your newfound friend. You miss him, don't you?" She smirks.

I give her one of my 'you and your jokes' looks. "Yes, as a matter of fact, so much so that I'm planning on moving to Jackpot."

"Yeah? That's good. But I'm not sure how well the townsfolk will receive you. Your bug collection and butterfly textbooks aren't exactly the best things to introduce yourself with." She deadpans, playing along with my joke.

"Why? What's wrong with my bug collection and butterfly books?"

"Do you really want me to say?" She laughs and almost involuntarily, a smile tugs at my lips. "So what did he say?"

"What did who say?" I ask, already forgetting my earlier comment.

"Your friend, Lieutenant Brooks? What did he say that's got you in such deep thought?"

"It's nothing."

She looks at me and I know she can tell I'm lying but she shrugs anyway and returns her attention to the paperwork in front of her.

"He asked me if I ever kept secrets." I say a moment later. I can never stop myself from telling her something. It's a weakness of mine.

"And you told him...?"

"Actually, he asked me if I ever kept secrets from my wife." Okey, so I can never stop myself from telling her *everything*.

"Your wife?"

"Yeah, he thought you were my wife."

She laughs again. "Yeah, you wish!"

I smile, not giving away too much but not exactly hiding anything either.

"So what'd you say?"

"I said I used to, but that I'm trying to changing."

She gives me another odd look like she doesn't believe me but then a smile replaces the frown on her face. "Well your wife is very happy to hear that." With that, she looks back down at her paperwork.

*****

"Do you not keep secrets, Mr. Grissom? Not even from your wife?"

"I used to. I'm trying to change."

And that's the truth. Even though sometimes I still feel like retreating back into my familiar shell, I am trying to change. Not for the sake of myself. But for her.

*THE END*
