Spoilers: "Yankee White"

Author's Notes: Here's a short little piece on what Kate could've been thinking at the end of "Yankee White". Yes, I do believe there was plenty of UST between her and Gibbs. Don't blame me, blame the writers. *grin*

So what do I do now? I've resigned my position in the Secret Service, and no other job prospects currently present themselves. I've just worked a major case with that NCIS team, but I have nothing to show for it. Nothing but this confusing attraction to an older man. I shouldn't be attracted to anyone right now. My lover just died. This isn't right.

God, my head hurts.

I slowly walk through the parking lot toward my car. What reason do I have to hurry? It's not like anyone's at home waiting for me. Home to a cold, empty apartment. I sigh. And tomorrow, I get to hit the want ads. Any chance there'll be a position for a former Secret Service agent who broke so many rules she can't count them all? Yeah--that's likely.

I hear footsteps behind me. "I heard you quit, Agent Todd," Agent Gibbs says. I resist the urge to roll my eyes. Leave me alone, Gibbs. Don't you see I want to wallow in my misery for a while?

"Happy news gets around fast," I say sarcastically. "Yes, I resigned. It was the right thing to do," I reply, an unspoken 'duh' added in my head.

"Yep. Pull that crap at NCIS," Gibbs says, ducking the barrier, "I won't give you a chance to resign."

I blink. Huh? "Is that a job offer?" I call after him. He doesn't reply.

A silver convertible drives up. Gibbs gets in, kissing the redheaded female driver on the cheek. They drive off.

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more confused...

It's not like anything could've happened anyway, Kate. Caitlin Todd, meet your new boss. Try not to screw this up, will you?
