Hermione Granger laughed and ran up to her father. "Look, Daddy! I caught one!"
"So you did, sweetheart," the big man replied, brushing snow out of frizzy brown hair.
"Did you know that every snowflake is different?" the little girl asked eagerly.
Her father smiled. "Really?"
"Yes! Oh, it's gone now," she said sadly.
"Snowflakes don't last long, love. They have to have just the right conditions to create their beauty. That's why you don't see snow during the summertime. Sometimes, the most beautiful things come from the harshest of conditions."
"Are you ready, sweetheart?" a voice broke into her reverie.
Hermione turned from the window. "Ready, Dad." She took her father's arm and allowed him to lead her up the aisle.
She smiled as they reached the altar. Her husband-to-be nodded in welcome. He did not smile, but his black eyes contained a warmth meant only for her.
