Fanfiction by Mnemorath

Alone in a darkened room, a young man cried. His father had raised him to believe that it was unmanly to cry. However his beloved aunt & uncle had dissuaded him of that notion. It was not unmanly to cry or to show grief when mourning a loved ones passing. This was exactly what he was doing. Abandoned by his father, the young man had sworn off the martial arts, plunging into the sciences instead. His uncle had now paid the ultimate price for that vow. A burglar had broken into the home. When the young man's uncle had surprised him, the burglar had responded by shooting him dead.

If I had kept up my practice, Uncle Ben would still be alive. I could of easily have taken care of that burglar. But no, I had to hide my abilities. The young man mused. Then he remembered on of the last things that his uncle had said to him. Then and there, the young man vowed that if it was within his power, no one shall ever have to go through what he went through.

"With great power must come even greater responsibility."

At JFK International airport a young woman awaited her baggage, next to her stood a young red-headed girl about her age. Looking at the red-head, the young woman thought that she might as well get to know her. She would be living under the same roof while she participated in this exchange-student program. The Watson's had been gracious in allowing her to stay. She hoped they were nice people, but in comparison to her family, who could not be?

Looking back at her home life, the young woman could not help but shake her head. Life back home had gotten weird. It had all started when this panda had shown up claiming to be a long lost friend of her fathers. Then the old leach had appeared, things just went downhill from there. Although how her sister could have fallen for the perpetually lost boy was beyond her. At least her older sister had taken her one chance at happiness and run with it. She wished her sister and her husband well. They were going to come to New York later in the year to visit. A question form beside her brought her back to reality.

"Huh? No, I am alright, just thinking." She replied wistfully. "I was thinking about home."

"Well, maybe the nice boy living with the Parker's next door can help you get over your homesickness. He is from Japan as well, although why he was found in China is an unknown." Her companion replied, completely misinterpreting the previous remark.
