ROCKMAN.EXE: THE COLLEGE YEARS

Prologue

The Letter

Eighteen-year-old Lan Hikari sat on his bed with a piece of paper in his hand while chewing on his pencil eraser. It had been years since the Darkloids had been defeated and the boy himself had changed a lot since. He had definitely grown taller, stronger, and, as a few girls hinted to him, handsomer. He still wore his blue headband and vest, but he no longer kept the orange garment zipped up. The rest of his attire consisted of a plain black T-shirt, a pair of loose-fitting black shorts, and black shoes. Somewhere along the way, Lan had also developed a thing for music. He, Dex, and Tory had formed a small band back in eleventh grade. It started off as a little something for a talent show, but when they saw how much their classmates loved their music they couldn't bear to disband. The piece of paper Lan had in his hand was actually a new song he was working on and hoped the others would like it.

"Hey Lan, you've got some new mail. It looks pretty important," MegaMan called from his PET.

"Who is it from?" Lan asked as he put down his music and got off his bed.

"Den University," the blue Navi replied. Lan immediately dashed over to his desk, sat down, and began reading. His eyes moved so fast across the screen that MegaMan couldn't tell whether or not he really was reading.

"Well?"

"I made it, MegaMan! I got into Den University!" Lan pumped his fists into the air and let a triumphant whoop. MegaMan couldn't help but smile not because of his brother getting accepted, but because Lan was actually able to get in.

"Hey, save your energy, Lan. You need to pack. The university's on the other side of town," the emerald-eyed Navi reminded his operator.

"I know. But for now, let's party!" Lan switched on his stereo and hit the PLAY button.

Just because I walk like Obi-Wan Kenobi

You people talk, but you don't even know me

And all these guys I think they want to fight me

And all these girls I know that they don't like me

I made them laugh

They do it just to spite me

And the "IN" crowd

None of them are like me

But I don't care what you say

I don't need you anyway

I'll just go about my day

But anyway

You go out on Friday nights

I'll stay in but that's all right

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

In crowd, out crowd, I don't care

Your crowd, my crowd, we can share

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

Lets go!!

So come and talk to me on my computer screen

The best years of our lives aren't as easy as they seem

And one day we'll look back and then we'll have to laugh

They used to call us names now they want our autographs

So I don't care what you say

I don't need you anyway

I'll just go about my day

But anyway

I don't care what you say

I don't need you anyway

I'll just go about my day

But anyway

You go out on Friday nights

I'll stay in but that's all right

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

In crowd, out crown, I don't care

Your crowd, my crowd, we can share

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

She said she'd call

But I know she won't

She won't

She won't

But anyway

You go out on Friday nights

I stay in but that's all right

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

In crowd, out crowd, I don't care

Your crowd, my crowd, we can share

'Cuz I have found a clique to call my own

Lets go!

But anyway

I don't need you anyway

I don't need you anyway

I don't need you anyway

As soon as the song ended, Lan rushed downstairs to tell his mother the news.

"Lan, Lan, Lan. Sometimes, you just never change," MegaMan chuckled before getting together the net materials Lan would need for his first year at university.
