Remus had one place of refuge, one place he could go to relax, clear his mind, and set all his problems aside, if only for a little while. The shower. Every evening, he would retreat to the third-floor bathroom that was his favorite, the one designated playfully by all members of the Order as "Remus' Bathroom", lock himself in, and take a long, scalding-hot shower.

Tonight he was alone in the house, which wasn't much to his liking, despite the fact that he was generally considered a loner. He pondered going to Kingsley's flat, or the Tonks home, or even the Burrow, but decided against it. He didn't want to ruin the domestic bliss. If that's what the atmosphere at the Burrow could be called.

So instead he dropped his things up at his room, undressed, wrapped a towel around his waist, and ventured to his bathroom for his shower. The door was locked, as always, and the water was hot enough that steam was pouring from it. As always. Remus was a man of habit.

It came as a complete shock when he heard a muffled thump outside his bathroom door about halfway through his shower. After all, the house was empty. He opened the shower curtain and had reached for his wand instinctively before he remembered that only a member of the Order could be in the house. He shrugged it off.

When he came out of the bathroom, he was surprised to find Tonks sitting outside the door, on the floor of the hallway, looking a little petulant. Remus gaped.

"What are you doing here?" He looked up and down the corridor, as though it might give him a hint that might answer his question.

"You always bloody lock the door! Why do you lock the bloody door when there's nobody in the bloody house?"

"Well, force of habit I...what were you doing trying to get into my bathroom anyway?" He looked at Tonks with narrowed eyes.

Well, he thought later, at least she had had the decency to blush a little. "I've been trying to catch you alone for weeks. I was going to...Iwantedtosneakuponyouintheshower."

Remus just gaped at her. She continued, not meeting his eyes.

"I've had such a crush on you for so long, I just wanted to see how you would react, I thought it would be romantic, but you lock the bloody door when you're all alone in the house!"

Remus was having a hard time grasping all this information. "You...you have a crush on me?" he asked dumbly.

Tonks rubbed at a spot on the floor with her toe, looking supremely nervous. "Well...yeah."

Remus blinked. Then he blinked again. He looked at Tonks for a long moment.

"Don't you think taking a shower with me might be...taking it a bit too quickly?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Tonks finally met his gaze, and shrugged, a smile starting on her face. "You're so conservative Remus."

Remus laughed, laughed, as he hadn't done in a long time, long and merrily, until tears sprang to his eyes.

"Well," he said, still chuckling, "I rather prefer to go on a date or two before I start having sex with a person."

Tonks' face looked eager now. "So would you? Go on a date with me, that is."

Remus felt a stirring of...something in the pit of his stomach. He didn't have any idea what it was, but he definitely liked it, and it definitely had something to do with the young woman who had just failed in her attempt to seduce him.

"Alright then."
