Janet Fraiser stared up at her daughter's window as she walked out of the dormitory. Her heart felt like it was breaking, and it took everything she had not to run back in.

"Do you think she'll be all right?" she asked.

Jack O'Neil chuckled. "She'll be fine. Cassie's been through tougher stuff than this."

"But what if she forgot something? Like her books or her underwear?" Panic quickly crept into her eyes, and she made a move to go back.

Jack wrapped an arm around her, keeping her where she was. "She's eighteen years old, Janet. Almost an adult. I doubt she forgot her underwear."

"But...but what if she needs me?"

"Then she'll call."

Defeated, Janet's shoulders slumped, and she pouted all the way to the car.

Once they reached the car, Jack unlocked the doors and climbed in. Glancing mournfully back at the dorms one last time, Janet eventually joined him. Placing his hand over hers, he gave her a reassuring squeeze.

"Everything will be fine," he promised as he cranked the car.

"I hope so," Janet sighed as she silently said good-bye to her baby.
