Someday We'll Know

Summary: Ron and Hermione discuss Ron's plans after Hogwarts, short, one shot

Disclaimer: All hail Joanne Rowling. It's hers not mine. I'm a copy cat. Boo-hoo.

I'm feeling apathetic today.

A/N: Another R/Hr ficlet! This one's based on the song 'Someday We'll Know' by Mandy Moore and Jonathan Foreman (Switchfoot). Let me set the scene a bit... Ron and Hermione are nearing the end of their seventh year, and now is the tome for decisions to be made. Life-altering decisions. Let's see what they do, shall we?

This is the excerpt from the song that this ficlet is based on!

Someday we'll know

Why Sampson loved Delilah

One day I'll go

Dancing on the moon

Someday you'll know

that I was the one for you....

~Someday We'll Know~

It was a day that changed my life. Forever. Some people ask me if I ever wonder what would have happened if the day hadn't have happened they way it had... if certain words hadn't been said. My name is Ron Weasley. And this is the beggining of my life in a nutshell.

It was cool but beautiful spring day when Hermione Granger asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I was stumped. Hermione could always do that to me. And to be honest, I drove me nuts. Still does, come to that. She looked at me with those big brown eyes of hers and flat out asked, "Ron, what do you want to do after leave?" I just looked at her for moment. To be perfectly honest, the answer was at the back of my mind, but I couldn't bring myself to tell her.

"After we leave?" I repeated, swallowing hard. She nodded. "Have a party?" I said feebly.

"Ron! Be serious!" She said, but she was laughing. She couldn't help it. I had a knack for making people laugh... even when I didn't want them to. "Ron, honestly, what do you want to do with your life? How do you want to make a difference?" she inquired. I was silent. "Oh," she cooed softly, "You... you don't know do you?"

"No." I admitted. Like my knack for making people laugh, she had a knack for fishing the truth out of people. It seemed like I had only managed to save one secret from her all those years. And I had every intention of keeping that secret. It's too bad that almost everything I say is wrong. I say almost, because there are some things I say that I really mean, from the depth of my heart. But things like that aren't common with me. Not at all. Things like that are only said to certain people. My family. My best friend. My Hermione. That's right I didn't include Hermione in my 'best friends' category. At that time, I had no idea what she was in my life. All I knew was that she was there and I cared about her. She was in her own category. Still is.

"Ron, you can be anything you want, so just... pick something. Something you love." I thought for a moment. And then, with out realizing the word that were coming out of my mouth, I said "Do you count?"

"What?" she gasped.

"Nothing." I said quickly.

"No... you said 'Do you count?'"

"Damn" I muttered under my breath.

"What did you mean, Ron, do I count for what."

"Nothing." I said again, more forcefully this time. She looked at me, I mean really looked at me. Not just scanned me over, but her amber eyes bore deep into mine, like she was searching for something deeper than what she saw. Like she knew there was something else there. And I guess she knew right. She always did, of course. But she suddenly burst out with, "I love too." And that was that. She loved me and I loved her. And she knew it, I needn't say a word. So I didn't. And that was the beggining of the rest of my life.

It was a day that changed my life. Forever. Some people ask me if I ever wonder what would have happened if the day hadn't have happened they way it had... if certain words hadn't been said. My name is Ron Weasley. And I would not have changed one precious word spoken during that day. Now or ever.
