"Hey buddy," Trip said slapping Malcolm on the back. "You ol' dog, didn't know you had it in ya."

"Trip?" Malcolm said as he continued his trek down Enterprise's corridor towards the armory.

"You and Hoshi. You know the other ship, you and her, the kids."

"Will you be quiet!" Malcolm hushed between clenched teeth.

Trip grinned broadly. "Why ever for? I thought you'd be happy."

Malcolm stopped, and looking to make sure there were alone in the corridor, turned to face the engineer. "Because I don't want her to know, that's why. So keep it quiet."

"What's the matter? I thought you liked her?"

"That's not the point."

"Then what is?"

"Hoshi didn't look to see who the father of her children were, and I'm not going to tell her and neither are you."

Trip looked at his friend incredulous at what he had just heard.

"The point is, is that I do like her -- hell, I love her. It's because I love her that I'm asking you not to say anything."

"Why not?" Trip asked.

"Let's say, I love her enough to let her go. I love her enough to know there has to be someone on the ship who would be better for her than I could ever be." "But, Malcolm..."

"Trip, if you're my friend, you'll never say another word about this to me. Never."

The two friends held each other's gaze for several seconds before Trip nodded his acceptance and Malcolm strode away.

Looking at the Brit stride down the corridor, Trip whispered to himself. "Remember, Malcolm, actions speak louder than words."
