The Pain of Loving

By The Anonymous Valentine

Beka looked from Dylan to the ring and back to Dylan, she shook her head "No, never," she said.

"But why? I love you Beka, I want to be with you always" he said.

She looked at him sadly "I don't love you like that Dylan, I'm sorry".

"What should I do?" Dylan asked Tyr, "I can't stop loving her".

Tyr looked at him with pity 'the poor man' he thought, he looked distraught, "It is a shame, your would have bred strong children! But it is a woman's right to choose and you have to accept that."

Dylan turned tear filled eyes to look at him "I can't, she's wrong," he said sadly, "How can I make her see that?"

"You can't" Tyr told him sadly, "You can't make her feel something she doesn't". He didn't know what say to the only human he had ever looked up to; there was nothing he could really say to make it better.

Harper entered the mess hall, Dylan was sat looking out of the stars, a plate of crumbled cookies sat in front of him, next to a cup of cold coffee. He walked across to him, "Hi boss, want to talk about it?" He asked.

"What is there to talk about?" Dylan said sadly, "She doesn't love me".

"That's not true Boss" Harper said

"Then why did she say she didn't? I love her so much, I can't just stop!" He picked up another cookie and started to crumble it absentmindedly. "And what happens now? We can't go back to the way things were," he looked up panic stricken, "What if she decides to leave? I couldn't bear to lose her".

Harper sighed, he hadn't even thought about the fact that Beka might leave. "You need to talk to her, to decide what is best for both of you. What you both want and can live with".

Dylan sighed and gazed back out into the nothingness of space.

Dylan stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel round his waist.

The door chimed, "Enter" he said

Rev Bem walked in, "Rev how can I help you" Dylan asked.

"I think it is more how I can help you," the Wayist told him, "I am not unaware of recent developments".

Dylan sighed deeply, "I just don't know what to do for the best".

"Trust in the divine" Rev told him, "What is meant to be, will happen. The Divine works in mysterious ways, we must trust that he does so for a good reason." And with that he turned and left.

"Andromeda you're women," Dylan said, "What do you think I should do?"

Holo Rommie appeared, "What do you truly want?" She asked him.

"Beka." He said simply.

"Well if that is true, except what she is willing to give you. She doesn't feel capable of loving you the way you love her, but give her time, perhaps she's scared; to love someone takes a great deal of trust, because you make yourself vulnerable to that person. She loves you as a friend, it you know that, all you can really do is love her and wait, and hope she makes the right decision. Loving is never easy, it takes work and patience. It will be hard, but if you truly love her with all your heart, then accept what she is willing to give, be her friend and try to understand the way she feels. But you must be sure that that she is the one, the other half of your soul, because if she is then loving her will be enough, even if she never loves you in the same way. Love is the most frightening thing to admit to it makes you vulnerable to being hurt" Rommie told him sadly.

"Ain't that the truth" Dylan muttered, turning once more to look at the stars, searching for an answer in the darkness.

The end.
