Like Old Times
Full summary: Shawn Michaels and Triple H were always great friends. Along with Chyna, they created D-Generation X in October of 1997 and quickly gained a reputation for being disruptive and uncontrollable. Shawn was forced to hang up his boots for four years due to a back injury, but returned to the company in 2002 as a member of the nWo, which disbanded shortly after his return. Shawn was hoping things could be like old times when Triple H decided to sign with Raw, but he was sorely mistaken, as the other man attacked him in the parking lot to prove Shawn wasn't the same man he was four years prior. The incident sparked one of the most storied rivalries in WWE history. After suffering a severe concussion during his match with Kane at Unforgiven, Shawn is diagnosed with amnesia and believes D-Generation X is still together. Will Triple H team up with the Heartbreak Kid once again to form one of the most popular tag teams in the history of the company? How will the WWE Universe react to Shawn's amnesia?

Shawn Michaels vs. Kane
No Holds Barred
As usual, the "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels danced his way down to the ring before his match with Glenn "Kane" Jacobs, who was awaiting him in the ring. He tried to be patient, but he couldn't stand the way Shawn took his time dancing while they had a match to start. But Kane remembered the stage manager telling Shawn to take his time while heading to the ring, mostly because the previous match ended a few minutes early. Kane looked at the referee for the match and smirked. Charlie Robinson. Same guy Kane kicked in the face the previous year during his Last Man Standing match with Shane McMahon. The match that Shane attempted an elbow drop from the top of the TitanTron... Kane moved just in time, making the 33-year-old McMahon go through the floor. Shane lost the match and was rushed to the hospital.
Aaaaah, I love my accomplishments in this company.
Shawn hopped into the ring, did his signature pose, and leaned down to remove his vest and assless chaps. Once he was ready, he backed away from the middle of the ring and sent an angry glare in Kane's direction. Charlie Robinson raised an eyebrow in mild confusion, whereas Kane fought off the urge to laugh.
I'm supposed to be menacing. Not cuddly.
Robinson signaled for the bell, allowing the match to start. Over on commentary, Jerry Lawler was quick to make comparisons back to In Your House 1996 when Shawn defended the World Wrestling Federation championship against 'Big Daddy Cool' Diesel. Jim Ross scolded him for a few moments, saying Shawn and Kane had never been friends, but was quick to agree when it came to the height and weight difference between Shawn and his opponents.
Kane threw Shawn around like a doll. They were quick to relocate their battle to the outside of the ring, where Kane accidentally made Shawn hit his head on the ring post. After that incident, Kane continued the assault on Shawn's head, introducing it to the steel steps, the barricade, and the commentator's booth. Feeling a tad disgruntled, Kane looked under the ring and pulled out a ladder. Shawn saw an opening when Kane picked up said item, and, using all the strength and energy he could muster, Shawn dropkicked the ladder into Kane's face. Kane fell to the ground, and it was now Shawn's turn to take control of the match. He used several weapons on Kane, including a steel chair, a fire extinguisher, and a garbage can.
Shawn thought he had complete control of the match when Kane sat up like nothing ever happened. Kane grabbed a hold of Shawn and tombstoned him onto a chair.
Robinson ran over to Shawn while Kane taunted the crowd. "Are you okay, Shawn?"
A lazy set of blue eyes peered at him from under a now blood soaked forehead. "Uh-huh."
When Charlie turned around, he noticed Kane had slipped out of the ring and was in the process of picking up the steel stairs
"Uh-uh! No!" Charlie shouted.
"Shut up!" Kane retorted, sliding the steps into the ring.
Kane slid into the ring and bent over to grab a hold of Shawn, then picked him up and tombstoned him onto the steel stairs. Kane went for the cover, and to his surprise, Shawn kicked out.
Backstage, Paul "Triple H" Levesque was cheering on Shawn Michaels. "Yes! Come on, Shawn! Get up! Kick his ass!" He shouted at the monitor.
He knew there was something wrong with Shawn, but he couldn't point it out. He saw the dazed look in Shawn's eyes and the blood covering his face and dripping down his chest. Ric Flair came to Paul's side and started watching the match with him.
"There's something wrong with Shawn, Hunter. I don't think it's a good thing, either. We better tell Eric to stop the match." Ric told Paul, who nodded in agreement. The two got up and set out in search for the General Manager of Monday Night Raw.
In the ring, Kane was standing over Shawn Michaels. Kane knew by the way they rehearsed it earlier that Shawn was supposed to get up, do the finisher and win, but he didn't move from his spot on the mat.
"Umm..?" Kane mumbled, making Charlie Robinson kneel down next to Shawn.
"You okay, Michaels?"
"Fans need a distraction." Charlie stated, loud enough for Kane to hear him.
Kane smirked, turned around and started taunting the crowd. Thanks to some poking and encouraging words from Charlie Robinson, Shawn was able to push himself off of the mat, grab hold of the ropes, and hoist himself to a standing position. Kane turned around, allowing Shawn the opportunity to deliver a half-assed Sweet Chin Music. Kane fell to the mat with a rather undignified thump, and Shawn was close behind, making sure to toss an arm over Kane's chest for the pin.
Charlie Robinson helped Shawn up after he won, and made the mistake of letting go of the other man before making sure he was stable on his feet. It took ten whole seconds for Shawn to bring a hand to his head an collapse.
By the time Charlie realized Shawn was on the mat, the man was already unconscious, leaving Charlie no choice but to gesture for the paramedics. EMT's rushed to the ring and rushed Shawn to a hospital.
Although unconscious and unresponsive to the medics and doctors, Shawn was repeating nothing but the name 'Hunter.' Shawn confused the doctors, mostly because everybody else in the WWE referred to Triple H as 'Paul.' Luckily for the hospital staff, both Vince McMahon and Paul were extremely concerned when they saw Shawn collapse and followed the ambulance to the hospital.
Vince leaned close to Shawn. "Shawn? Shawn? Are you ok? Shawn? Can you hear me? It's Vince."
It took Paul a moment or two to realize Shawn was asking for him. "Shawn, it's me. It's Hunter. I'm right here. Open your eyes and look at me, will you?" Paul demanded.
Shawn opened his eyes like a kid waking up on Christmas Day. "Hunter!" Shawn screamed with pure joy and hugged the other man.
Paul looked at Vince with a nothing but pure confusion etched on his face.
Vince shrugged his shoulders, walked out into the hallway and cleared his throat, scaring the doctors around him. "What the hell is wrong with him?"
"Severe concussion. And when I say severe... I mean severe." A doctor replied.
"How severe?" Vince asked.
Another doctor held up a styrofoam cup. "Think of this cup as Mr. Hickenbottom's head," He paused, waiting for Vince to acknowledge what he was doing. "This is what happened during the match," He paused again, then crumbled the cup. "And this is what has probably already, or could possibly happen within the next few moments." The doctor ripped the cup in half.
Vince stared at him, completely flabbergasted. "Uh... Pardon?"
"Concussions this severe usually lead to amnesia, Mr. McMahon."
"Well, thanks for being honest..." Vince stated, walking down the hall to try and regain his thoughts.
Paul wondered how long Shawn was going to hug him. It seemed like it was never going to end, and Paul wondered why the hell Shawn had suddenly decided to use him as a teddy bear. Paul decided to give in and hug Shawn back at just the right time.
"I can't wait to get out there tomorrow night! Weren't we going to have the barbecue in the ring? Or were we going to hold up signs making fun of Vince and stuff like that? Where's Rick? Have you seen Joanie?" Shawn asked Paul, who was extremely confused by Shawn's questions.
"Shawn? What are you talking about?" Paul asked. He figured Shawn was just playing a harmless prank... Just like old times. He thought he heard the doctor tell Vince that Shawn had suffered a concussion, and that would surely make sense seeing as to how he knew something was off with him in the ring, but this was odd behavior even for a concussed person.
"What do you mean, Hunter? I'm talking about D-Generation X! Weren't we planning to do something outrageous on Raw?" Shawn asked Paul as Vince walked back in to the room.
"Uh, yeah. Shawn, we were going to do something... Along the lines of outrageous. Uh... Tomorrow... Yeah... Good idea... Paul, I need to talk to you..." Vince stated, turned and left the room.
Paul was at his side in a matter of seconds. "Vince, he's acting like D-X is still together!"
"Yes, I realize that. I've always wanted to bring D-X back and now this is the perfect time to do it."
Paul narrowed his eyes. "Uh... No, you haven't."
"I'm going to ignore that. Right, so tomorrow night on Raw, I want you to call Shawn out to the ring. This time, wear an Evolution shirt over your D-X shirt. Tell Shawn to wear one of his HBK shirts over a D-X shirt. Tell the fans about Evolution and that you want Shawn to join or some shit like that. Then say something that only D-X would say, cue the music, tear your shirts so your D-X shirts are showing, do the fireworks and hug. Got it?" Vince asked.
"Yeah... I guess... I mean... That still doesn't tell me how to deal with this." Paul stated, gesturing back towards Shawn's room.
Vince sighed. "We'll figure it out as we go."
A/N: Decided to do more editing (as those of you who read this before and are re-reading it now can probably tell). I also got rid of those annoying Author's Notes that were attached to this earlier in the year... Oh, and I reformatted the chapter to fit the format of the later chapters of the story.
