Kindergarten Colonel

Sam sat in the commissary scraping the remnants of blue Jell-O from her glass. For a split second, as she took a mouthful, all was right with the world. Her moment of indulgence passed and her mind meandered reluctantly to the present. Sam levelled a glare at the back of Colonel O'Malleys head.

"Sam."

It wasn't fair...

"Sam!"

"Uh...what?"

Daniel started down at the Lieutenant Colonel. "For a second there, I thought you were in orbit!"

"Huh?"

"You looked a little...spaced."

"Sorry...I was just thinking."

Daniel put his plate of waffles on the table, before seating himself.

"Jack?"

"Yeah."

Daniel prodded the contents of his plate.

"It isn't fair."

"O'Malley's happy." Noted Sam.

"Well of course he will be. He's the base's 2IC."

"He'll never handle it."

Daniel furrowed his brow. "Jack or O'Malley?"

"O'Malley."

"Right."

The pair sat in unfamiliar silence for a moment or two.

"I can't believe this has happened."

"I know...but he must have known the consequences."

"C'mon! Whatever he did can't have been that bad!"

"The White House are seeing things differently."

Sam met Daniel's sad and worried gaze.

"I guess you're right."

"Colonel Carter. Daniel Jackson." Teal'c walked up to his teammates table.

"Hey Teal'c!"

"O'Neill wishes to see you."
