Draco stood in the corner, not joining in the celebrations. Yes, the Dark Lord had finally perished. Harry Potter, saviour of the world once more. Light had succeeded, but it was not without loss. He looked down into his glass, swirling the contents around. The Great Hall looked as grand as ever, yet it did not cheer Draco up at all.

He looked up and watched as a strange pale girl left through the entrance, her white dress rustling behind her. He did not know her. Curious, he put down his glass on a table and followed her. He could hear her hurried steps through the deserted hallway. She was heading towards the Astronomy tower.

He continued following her up the twirling stairs. She was running now. He met her pace and went onwards. The paintings on the walls paid no mind, having their own celebrations.

He finally came to the astronomy room. The door was slightly ajar. He pushed it open.

One of the giant windows was open. The girl stood on the windowsill, her dark hair billowing around in the wind. Her arms were outstretched, about to jump. Draco's eyes widened.

"Get down from there." He called, stepping into the room. The girl did not move.

"I said get down from there!" he tried again. The girl had tears streaming down her face. She turned to him with empty eyes.

"Would you dare to catch me should I fall?" she asked him, her tone hollow. Draco did not understand.

"Excuse me?" he asked unsurely.

"Would you dare to catch me should I fall?" she repeated. Tears fell from her cheeks and made patter sounds on the stone below her feet. Draco took a step forward.

"That depends. Would you want me to catch you?" he asked. She tilted her head to the side and turned, facing the grounds again.

"They are dead. Everyone. I want to join them." She said, her voice cracking. Draco took another step forward.

"The war?" he asked hesitantly. She nodded and gave a sob. Draco nodded, understanding.

"I am all alone." She whispered into the wind. A single tear fell from Draco's eye. He understood perfectly.

"You are not alone." He whispered, taking another step forward. The girl turned to sharply to him, tears flying.

"Who is there? Tell me!" she cried, sadness and anger mixed in her voice. Draco closed his eyes for a moment, before looking up at her.

"There is me." He replied. The girl gave him a confused look. Draco held a hand out to her. She stared at it.

"I won't leave you." He told her. She hesitated, but eventually took his hand in her own, stepping down from the windowsill. She looked up at him, and gave him a small smile.

And Draco smiled for the first time since the war, truly happy.
