"Mommy, what's that?"

"What's what?"

"What's that on your back?"

"Oh, that's a tattoo, honey."

"What's a tat tat tattoo?"

"It's a little drawing on people's skin."

"Why did you draw on your skin, Mommy?"

"I didn't draw on my skin. Another grown-up did."

"Why did a grown-up draw on your skin?"

"So I could impress some guy."

"What guy?"

"It doesn't matter, honey. He turned out to be a real creep."

"Can I get a tattoo?"

"You're not old enough, William."

"Oh. I'm only five."

"Go back into the pool or go play over by your sandbox. You can pretend we're at the beach."

"Is that the worm that crawled on your back?"

"No, it's a picture of a snake."

"Oh. Daddy says that a worm crawled up your back a long time ago."

"Your father and I are going to have a talk when he gets back."

"Is Uncle John coming over?

"Yes, honey, but Uncle John isn't going to be here until dinner time."

"Is Uncle Walter coming over?"

"No, Uncle Walter isn't going to be here until the weekend."

"I love you, Mom."

"I love you too, William."
