-Right On Past-

She stands on the path, waiting patiently for him. Soon, he appears like she had expected, toting his knapsack. She looks anywhere but at him.

He halts and stares at her blankly. "Why are you prowling around here in the middle of the night?"

"I knew you would come this way if you were to leave…so I just waited here." She says.

His dark eyes narrow. "Get out of here. Go home and sleep." He walks past her.

Tears slip down her pale face. "Why won't you say anything to me? Why do you always keep so quiet? You never say a single word to me!" she whispers.

His stiff, unrelenting back still faces her; the Uchiha fan mocks her. "I told you: I don't need your help. Don't try to look after me." Sakura looks down. A sad smile creeps across her face. "No matter what, you always hate me, don't you?" She remembers when she and Sasuke had their first talk together, and how he had snapped at her about loneliness. "Do you remember when I asked you about life without your parents?"

His back goes completely rigid, then relaxes. "I don't remember that."

Her eyes widen in surprise. "Yeah, I guess it's all in the past, huh? That's when it all began, though. You and me…Naruto and Kakashi-sensei…Just the four of us doing missions." She takes a deep breath. "It was painful and difficult at times. Even with that, though, I still enjoyed it." Once again, she looks at the concrete. "I know all about your past, Sasuke. Even if you do get revenge, it won't bring anyone happiness. Not even you, Sasuke…nor me."

There is a brief silence. "…I already know."

Sakura is surprised for thesecond time. He continues: "I'm different from all of you. I can't be following the same path as you guys…Up until now, we've done everything as a group. But…there is something else I must do." Her face screws up with the effort of keeping her tears in, but he continues blithely on. "Deep inside my heart, I've already decided on revenge. For that reason only do I live." He whirls to face her. "I'll never be like you or Naruto."

He turns on his heel and prepares to leave, but her voice makes him stop. "Do you really want to go back to being alone? You told me how painful it was to be alone! Right now, I know your pain! I may have my friends and family, but…if you were to leave…To me…" Her voice cracks with agony. "To me, I would be just as alone as you!"

After a short silence, Sasuke speaks again. "From here on out, we all begin new paths."

She grits her teeth. "I…I love you!" She bursts out. "I'd do anything for you! So…please, just stay with me! I'll even help you with your revenge! I don't know what I could do, but…I'll try my best to do something, so please, stay with me! Or you can take me with you if you can't stay here…" she breaks off, overcome by sniffles.

He turns around, slowly, a condescending smirk on his beautiful face. "You really are annoying." He begins to walk again, but she stops him a second time. "Don't leave! If you do, I'll scream!" She pleads.

Sasuke is behind her, faster than she can see. He pauses for a moment, and she can feel his hot breath briefly on her neck as he speaks. "Sakura…Thank you."

As darkness veils her sight, he walks right on past her.
