His deep, tuneless humming resonated in her ear. Strong arms were wrapped loosely around her body, holding her close to him in his lap. Sakura petals fell slowly from the branches above them, draping them in a fragile, lace sheet of soft pink. He raised one arm and slowly wound his fingers through her long blonde hair, which long since he had pulled from it's usual ponytail. She closed her eyes and sighed softly as she tilted her neck back and rested her head in the crook of his neck. His humming changed slightly as a familiar melody slowly took shape. She knitted her eyebrows together slightly, knowing she recognized the tune but unable to grasp the lyrics or even the title.

"Hm…Shikamaru?" she mumbled. He unwound his fingers from her hair and slid his hand down her arm. He laced her delicate fingers with his own and she pulled his arm tighter around her, snuggling closer to him. "What's that you're humming?"

A light—almost too light—chuckle shook in his chest. He shrugged her head off his shoulder and kissed her cheek tenderly. He smiled in spite of himself and whispered close in her ear, "Nothing…nothing important…"

She pouted slightly and looked at him out of the corner of her eye. He smiled coyly at her, closed his eyes and tilted his head back against the tree behind them.

"I love you, Ino," he said, a small blissful smile on his face. She smiled broadly—as she always did when hearing those words escape his lips—but said nothing as she shifted against him and wrapped his arms tighter around her, she leaned her head back again and watched the sky above in hopes that the pure-blue expanse would give her the answer she wanted. She shifted against him and sighed. His eyes shot open as her back moved against him in just the right way so that it pressed the contents of his shirt pocket to his chest. He tensed slightly, fearing his secret would be revealed, but she noticed nothing through his thick chuunin vest. He relaxed and closed his eyes again as he continued humming, slightly stronger than before as his thoughts drifted to what he had planned for later that nightand the key ingredient, hidden away in his pocket: a small box.

A box just large enough to hold the perfect engagement ring.

A ring he had picked out just for her.

'Here comes the bride...'
