Disclaimer: I don't own the song "Chrono's Sadness," the episode "Four People," or—heck, Chrono Crusade in general.

Author's Note: I have always loved track 12 of the second CC soundtrack: "Chrono's Sadness". It's so utterly beautiful and poignant that I almost always start to sob when I hear it. It's the music I wrote "Fly With Me" to, and now, this poem—which was inspired by the scene at the end of the episode "Four People." The dialogue (with the exception of one "Rosette," which was actually just a sad noise made in the back of Chrono's throat) is taken directly from the scene itself. And because "Chrono's Sadness" is the music playing in the background at the time. . . well, it all makes sense, yes?

Please enjoy!

Can you hear my muted cry?

I've sent it out into the sky

A silent, quiet, soundless plea

Dark and endless as the sea

You've lived all these years without a wrinkle or a gray hair. You've always looked the same, and

you always will, too. And. . . I'm sure that. . . even after I die—

I've asked for you to understand

I've asked for you to take my hand

With eyes that know my heart, please see:

I just want you to stay with me

No, Rosette. When you die. . . I'll cease to exist in this world.

Stay with me—that's all I need

Stay with me—that's all I plead

Stay with me—and don't let go

Stay with me—you've got to know

Because I have no intention. . . of living longer than you.

Stay with me—don't turn away

Stay with me—just one more day

Stay with me—and don't let go

Stay with me—you've got to know

But why would you— ? I mean, I— !

Stay with me—you've got to know.

I want. . . to change things. I want to believe that anything can be changed.

I love you more than ought I should

If I could break our Pact, I would

For I can't stand to see your pain

To have your losses be my gain

Chrono. . . ?

Stay with me— and bring me near

Stay with me— and keep me here

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

The moment I met you, a new world opened up for me. You see, after wandering in the darkness for so long, a light brought me happiness. It's all thanks. . . to you.

Stay with me— or I can't be

Stay with me—you set me free

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

That's not true. I feel the same way.

Stay with me—and don't let go.

But—I've taken so much away—!

I loathe myself for what I've done

I've used my dark to shade the sun

And though you say it isn't true

I hate to see this done to you

It's because my time is limited that I don't have any doubts! It's all thanks. . . to this.

Stay with me— and hold me tight

Stay with me— throughout the night

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

Stay with me— and never leave

Stay with me—I beg you, please

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

That's why I can walk straight ahead—it's why I can always keep going!

Stay with me— you've got to know.

Because. . . I have you with me.

I promise you my life, myself

But is that vow enough to help?

Regardless, by you'll side I'll fight

I will be there to make things right

Rosette . . .

And now that I know I can't live

Without the strength and love you give

On the day of your last breath

Beside you I will find my rest

I won't let you die. . . !

Stay with me— and take my tears

Stay with me— accept my fears

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

No matter what. . .

Stay with me— and let me cry

Stay with me— until we die

Stay with me— and don't let go

Stay with me— you've got to know

No matter what it takes . . .

Stay with me— you've got to know.

Stay with me—

I won't!

I love you so.
