"Shhhh…" he soothed gently. "The pain will soon fade."
She cried out again and twisted away from him, fighting to free herself from his grasp.
"Be still!" he hissed, tightening his grip to stop her struggling. Realizing how harsh he had sounded, he softened his tone. "It will only hurt worse if you fight me."
"No! Erik please, please don't do this!" She sobbed, tears rapidly streaming down her pale cheeks.
Tenderly wiping away her crystal tears, he sighed. "You mustn't cry so, my dear. The salt water will sting quite badly."
The lulling beauty of his voice distracted her from the faint prick of the needle and soon she lay silent. Pressing an innocent kiss to her brow he tightened the straps restraining her and quickly finished and set his tools aside. "There, all bandaged up and good as new."
Turning to the nearby cradle he smiled fondly at the sleeping child. "Isn't he beautiful Christine?"
She merely gazed dazedly up at him and he grinned proudly as he glanced down at her. "He's growing so fast. He'll be crawling soon." Ever so slowly she blinked her eyes, several tears escaping beneath her silky lashes to trace watery patterns down her temples. Freeing her from her bonds, he gently lifted her into his arms, her head resting on his shoulder.
"Please don't cry Christine. Its for the best I promise." He lovingly stroked her hair, seeking to sooth her.
"Now he'll never feel different. Our son will grow up loved and protected." Erik solemnly vowed, his voice shaking with emotion.
Turning back to his angel in his arms he smiled seductively. "Though I shall miss your little button nose when I kiss you."
