Got Your Nose! no Jutsu

Happy Birthday Sasuke-kun!

written by Ebony (who was so proud of herself she made her mum read it too)

Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto.

We don't know who came up with the 'Got your nose!' trick, but this idea amused the hell out of us during an assembly. This could almost be considered a side-story to Esthesia.

"Nii-san…"

Itachi gave a quiet yet exasperated sigh, turning in his chair to face his younger brother who stood in the entranceway to his room, a wide grin on his face. The older brother had been trying to go over some readings he had been assigned, but so far it had proved fruitless, as he had been interrupted twice already.

"Yes, Sasuke?"

The younger boy gave a supressed laugh, that clearly held excitement and anticipation. "Do you know what day it is tommorow?"

Itachi raised an eyebrow in mock stupidity, deciding he might as well have a little bit of fun while slacking off. "Thursday, right?"

Sasuke looked shocked and hurt for a moment, before perking up at the sound of Itachi's laughter, quiet and lilting, but sincere; something Sasuke was hearing less and less.

"It's your birthday, isn't it?"

His little brother nodded eagerly, taking a few skip-steps forward. "I'm going to be five."

"I know." Itachi's smile turned from adoring to michievious, as he beckoned Sasuke over to his desk. "I'll tell you what, Sasuke…I'll give you a small present now, if you let me do my work in peace for the rest of the afternoon."

Sasuke face brightened. "Alright! Where is it?"

Children are so selfish. So naive… Itachi thought to himself, watching Sasuke's face. "It's a ninja trick. But…"

"But what?"

"You might not be ready…"

"I am!" Sasuke insisted, putting his hands on his brother's knees.

"Fine, fine…" Itachi put a finger to Sasuke's lips, and the boy became silent immediately. Itachi closed his eyes, pretending to be deep in concentration, yet having a little trouble not bursting into laughter. Finally, he opened his eyes, and reached for Sasuke's nose. In one fast motion, he tucked his thumb in between his first and middle finger, showing his little brother.

"Got your nose."

Sasuke's eyes widened, and he let out a short scream, hands instantly flying to his face. He patted his nose, finding that it was still there. With accusing eyes and a pout he looked back up at Itachi, who had opened his hand to reveal his thumb, a triumphant smile on his face.

"That was mean, Nii-san…" Sasuke grumbled.

Itachi ruffled his younger brother's hair. "Maybe… But it did teach you things aren't always what they seem; a very important ninja lesson. Right?"

Sasuke nodded, still bitter, but with 100 percent faith in his brother. "I guess…"

"Boys? What's going on?"

The two brothers looked to the doorway, where their mother had poked her head in, looking worried.

"I heard someone scream…" she continued, giving Itachi a warning look.

The older boy removed his hand from Sasuke's hair, giving a casual smile. "Everything's fine. I was just giving Sasuke an early birthday present. It was just that old 'got your nose' trick. Right, Sasuke?"

Sasuke glanced from his brother to his mother, able to sense that he was missing something, but what it was he couldn't pinpoint. "Yeah… It's okay, Kaa-san."

"Sasuke, I think Itachi has some work to get done. You should leave him alone now," their mother said, still watching them.

Itachi nodded, removing Sasuke's hands from his knees gently, holding them in his own a few moments. "That was part of the deal."

Reluctantly, the younger boy left the room, checking first in Itachi's small mirror to make sure his nose was still on his face. Itachi laughed quietly once more.

Happy birthday, Sasuke…
