Summary: What if Darlene's child hadn't survived? This is a quick one-shot on mostly Darlene's reaction to the baby not living.

A/n: This is my first Roseanne fan fiction. Anyhow, I hope you like it and please don't forget to review!

Disclaimer: I own none of these characters.

David silently debated on whether or not he should check on Darlene. They had both been such a wreck since they had lost the baby. Darlene was usually the strong one of the relationship. She was the one who had always kept their spirits up. Things were different now though.

She refused to come out of the bedroom. She refused to eat or sleep. She didn't talk if she didn't have to. As much as David tried to be strong for the both of them, it wasn't working. He was devastated that the child hadn't lived. It wasn't fair. They both wanted that child so much.

He decided to go in the room, not caring if she snapped at him. They were married now. He needed to take care of her, for better or for worse.

"Darlene?" he questioned softly but she didn't say anything. She just continued to stare at the ceiling.

"Come on. You can't stay like this forever," he whispered, sitting down on the bed next to her. He hated seeing her like this. He hated the fact that she was hurting and he couldn't just make it go away.

"It's not fair. She didn't deserve to die," she whispered hoarsely and he nodded, putting his hand on hers.

"I know it's not," he said, not knowing what else to say. He was at a loss for words. It wasn't fair. It never had been. That child didn't deserve this. They didn't deserve this.

They sat in silence for a few moments, neither knowing what to say. Darlene unconsciously tightened her grip on David's hand. He gently stroked back her matted hair, wanting to just have the old Darlene back. David didn't think that would ever happen though.

"I know your hurting right now Darlene, but I know we can get through this. You''re the strongest person I've ever met. You're your mother's daughter," he said and for the first time in what felt like years, Darlene gave a small smile.

She didn't know what she would ever do without David. She slowly sat up, leaning onto David for support. His arms quickly went around her waist to support her. She turned around to face him and gently kissed him.

"I love you," she whispered, tears still in her eyes and he kissed her back.

"I love you too," he said, gently wiping the tears from her face. They stayed like that for a while, David holding Darlene in his arms.

They could get through this, as long as they were together. As long as they were together, they could get through anything.

A/n: Hope you liked it. I've got a few more Roseanne stories I'll post here later on. Please review and tell me what you thought!
