Don't Know Why

To Norah Jones' Don't Know Why. (I don't own Harry Potter or this song)

Tears welled up in chocolate brown eyes as she ripped open the black envelope.

Black was the color of death; the emblem of mourning.

And it was her turn to experience it.

Oh, why had she waited?

I waited 'til I saw the sun
I don't know why I didn't come

She brought the piece of loose leaf parchment up to the candlelight, tears blotting the curling paper. She was standing, but she couldn't feel her legs.

I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come

Her heart skipped a beat as her greatest fears were confirmed.

Harry was dead.

I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand

It wasn't fair. They had been in love. She was carrying his child.

My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever

For the second time in her life she felt like falling asleep and never waking up. She dropped the letter onto the ground and fell on her knees, crying tears she never knew she had. She would do anything- anything- to bring him back.

Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I'll be a vagabond
Driving down the road alone

She dragged her feet to the bedroom she and Harry had shared and her eyes clouded over as she stared at their bed. Yes, she had slept alone for many months now, but Harry had been alive.

She would never sleep with Harry's long, strong arms around her again.

My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever

I will never forget you! She screamed to her pillow through her mind, crying harder and harder.

Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come

He had asked her to come with him, and he had died by a simple curse. A curse that could have been deflected if she had been standing with him. But they soon thought better of it, what with the baby.

I feel as empty as a drum

The silence in the house screamed at her. She felt like screaming herself… So she did.

I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come

Panic lingered on her mind as she sought to recover the love she had lost.

But Harry would never come home.
