Disclaimer: I do not own any rendition of Les Misérables, and never will no matter how much I may wish it.
Summary: Late in the night Marius receives an unexpected visitor. Slight Marius/Eponine undertones.
Not really my best work, but I felt compelled to write up something for JenValjean's Halloween Challenge. Reviews are greatly appreciated. Enjoy.
Whisper
Rarely he would think of her. It was of no importance to think of a dead woman. But when he did it would be of her motives, and he would ponder why she had acted in such ways. Eponine was a baffling creature indeed. The girl had selflessly brought him to Cosette, but had selfishly tried to take his life later on. He tried to put her out of his thoughts for it would only cause him anger or sorrow.
While Eponine had claimed his thoughts, the living room had grown cold like an icy winter night. Marius shivered and tightly wrapped his arms around his waist. Each time he exhaled his breath was like cold smoke. Perhaps now was the time to return to his bed, and curl up next to his wife whom he treasured so dearly. Then out of the corner of his eye, Marius caught a glimpse of a grayish blur. He knew it was her.
"Forgive me Monsieur Marius." Her voice was a soft whisper, nothing like the horse voice he remembered.
Then with one blink he was alone once more. His eyes searched expecting to find her, but instead he saw nothing. He dismissed what he had seen and heard, and placed the blame on lack of sleep. He had ventured to the door way, and turned around to face the empty room. Something deep inside begged him to believe, and with that he smiled.
"I forgive you." He whispered.
