She looked up from the computer monitor and smiled. "Hey, Leo. What can I do for you?"
"I need to speak with Josh. Is he busy?" He pointed at the office door.
"He's on a phonecall with Congressman Skinner. He'll be done soon, though."
"Ah, I can wait. Say, how's your mother doing?"
She smiled wider. "She's doing great. The surgery went off without a hitch, and she's recovering well, according to the doctors. How's Mallory?"
"She's seeing this absolute nutjob. Artist, she says."
"Well, then there's at least one good thing about him, sir."
"He's probably a Democrat."
He looked at her thoughtfully. "You've been talking to Josh too much."
"Yeah, you're starting to talk like him."
A look of mild horror appeared. "I think you're right. Maybe I should take tomorrow off?"
"No more pre-emptive sick days, Donna!" A new voice called from nearby.
She rolled her eyes. "He can't function without me," she stagewhispered conspiratorially.
"I heard that!"
"You were supposed to." She smiled at Leo. "This goes without saying, but you can go in now."
"Thanks, Donna." With a wave, he walked out of the cubicle.
Just something that struck me.
