Disclaimer and note: Daniel Handler owns ASOUE, I don't, don't sue, etc. This was inspired by an article in Writing Magazine that quoted extensively from The Wide Window.

Omniscient

It is unnerving to see yourself referred to as a literary device. Lemony almost wishes D wouldn't encourage the misconception, useful as it is.

He has to admit that the article is technically correct. He knows everything that happened, now. Every word, every action, and how it all fitted together, what it all signified. All the things no one saw at the time, the consequences no one predicted, are spread out before him like a map. Like gears in a machine.

They got one thing wrong. It's not like being a god.

He's never felt more powerless in his life.
