Author's Notes: Number four of my one hundred Cyborg 009 fics. The prompt this time was 'New Year'. Enjoy. Or not.

"Happy New Year," Francoise Arnoul said as she handed Joe Shimamura his drink.

He gave the soft drink a skeptical look. "I thought you were supposed to drink wine on New Year's Eve."

"Not if you're underage," she replied as she took a sip from her glass. Joe played with the idea of asking what the legal drinking age was in France, but seeing how whatever it was, she would've celebrated that birthday decades ago made it a moot point... and she probably wouldn't be too thrilled with him if he mentioned it, either.

Joe decided he could live without knowing. Meanwhile, Francoise looked at her wine thoughtfully. "It's a little weird."

"The wine is weird?"

Francoise shook her head, leaning against the railing of Professor Kozumi's patio. She suddenly looked very wistful. "When I was growing up, I used to make up a list of resolutions long enough to fill a small notebook each year. She smiled at him, but it was a little sad. "There was so much I wanted to do with my life... but for the first time ever, I can't think of a single thing I would change."

He looked up at the bright night sky. "I'll tell you what's weird. I was thinking the same thing."

This time she smiled at him for real, and he couldn't help but smile back. It was one of those all too rare moments when it was just the two of them, perfectly content with each other's company. And as they leaned towards each other, he realized it was about to become a lot more than that...

"No, Jet." Albert's stern voice was loud enough to be heard from the kitchen and make him jump back before anything more than leaning towards each other could happen. Francoise gave the biggest sigh he'd heard in his life.

"For the love of-- Heinrich, I'm over sixty years old; I just want a damned drink!"

"No, Jet."

As Jet screamed in frustration a few rooms away, Francoise tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear, looking less than happy. "I may not be making any resolutions this year, but I'm really hoping Jet's making one to control his temper."

Joe nodded weakly.
