• A/N: This is my very first fanfic. Tell me what you think.
"Chloe, you have to be honest with me."
"Honest, huh?" Chloe smiled up at Clark.
Clark swallowed hard. Clearing his throat he said "What did I do?" Clark's heart was pounding a mile a minute and his breathing was shallow. He wished that he could remember what he did the last 24 hours. Chloe was really freaking him out. He waited with bated breath for Chloe to answer him.
Chloe moved in close to Clark and with a secret smile on her face replied, "You trusted me."
Clark gulped. He couldn't move. Chloe stood there for a moment looking straight into his eyes, then with a knowing look turned away and walked to her computer. Clark watched Chloe warily. 'What in the world did she mean by that? I trusted her? She knows! I just know she knows." Clark's thoughts were frantic. He didn't know what to do. "Chloe, w..wh...what did you mean by that?", Clark barely got the words out. He could feel himself shaking inside. 'She couldn't know...she wasn't treating him any differently. She was the same ole' Chloe...', his mind frantically searching for an explanation.
Chloe took a deep breath. Should she tell him that she knew his secret? Clark looked awfully pale when he asked her to be honest with him. He actually looked scared to death. Why would he be so frightened about her knowing his secret? Chloe looked back at Clark over her shoulder. He seemed frozen to the spot he was standing. He was looking at her petrified. She turned around to face him and leaned against her desk with her arms folded. "Are you okay, Clark? You look kind of pale." Chloe moved away from her desk toward Clark reaching out a hand to touch his face. His skin felt cool to her touch. Chloe was concerned. She frowned and dropped her hand and stood there looking at him.
Clark still hadn't moved. He felt numb all over. He had to find out what she was talking about. What she knew or thought she knew. Clark pushed the lump in his throat down with a swallow. "Umm, Chloe, look…uh…Chloe, I…." For the life of him, Clark could not get a single thought to come out of his mouth. He couldn't think, he couldn't breathe. Clark cleared his throat. "Look, Chloe. You have to tell me what I did. I don't remember anything of the last day."
Chloe made a decision. She was not going to go into this right now. She needed time to think. This was going to be a very delicate revelation for Clark and she didn't want to let him know exactly what she knew about him without thinking it through. She also didn't want interruptions or listening ears, which was very possible since they were in the Torch office. "You know Clark, I can't talk about this right now. I do have the paper to put to bed tonight and I still have a couple of stories to put the finishing touches to. Let's talk later." She smiled at Clark and reached over to touch his arm.
Clark did not return the smile. He stared at Chloe for a moment. "Okay, when DO you want to talk about this?"
Chloe knew she wasn't going to be able to sway Clark away from talking about this by the look on his face. Taking a deep sigh, Chloe looked at Clark for a moment and turned to walk back to her computer and take a seat. "How about this evening after I get through with the paper?"
Clark finally took a deep breath, "Okay. Meet me at the loft when your done?" Clark was still shaking.
"Sure, I'll see you around 8 then?"
Clark just nodded and turned around and walked out of the Torch. Chloe sat at her computer starring at the screen. This definitely was not going to be an easy discussion.
