Author's Note: This idea came to me…while thinking of those poor Joys. Duh.

This job is NOT easy. You work nearly twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. You only have one or two helpers, and the place is always busy.

Running a Pokemon Center shouldn't be on your 'want-to-be-when-I-grow-up' list.

Of course, you have to be a Joy. Nurse Joy, huh? Most of the time, I don't feel too joyful. But I guess I have a kind enough heart most of the time to smile warmly when a trainer arrives.

I take their pokeballs, heal them, while the trainers go mooch off my already-limited food supply. I call them back, they might mumble a 'thanks', then they leave. Or take more food, then leave. Sometimes, I have to fight with the pokemon to get them back inside the pokeballs, sometimes the pokemon are nearly dead, and when one does die in our care, the trainer, of course, blames us. 'It's all our fault because we couldn't do all we could!' I wish I had a poke-dollar for every time I heard that.

Truth is, my Chansey and I work our tails off every day of every month of every year, and I could probably count the times on one hand when a trainer has offered to help us. Two Chansey and a Nurse Joy have to work 6 to 10, and then, on the off chance someone comes in with an emergency during the night, we have to be able to wake up at a moment's notice. We take care of roughly two dozen pokemon, whether they're wild, recovering from surgery, or comatose. Then, even if I'm in the middle of treating a poor pokemon, I have to rush out into the lobby if a trainer stops by to have their pokemon healed.

I really do love taking care of sick and injured pokemon, and I'm glad I can do my part to help make this world a better place, but I think it'll drive me insane one of these days. I'm overworked, I'm blamed for trying to help a terminally ill pokemon, and some of the trainers who come in here are so darn rude…! And then they eat as if food grows on trees! I'm all for feeding some hungry trainers and pokemon, but it has gotten to the point where I have to check some of the trainers to make sure they're not smuggling food out of the Center.

And really, a donation once in awhile would be appreciated. There's only so much the government can pay for, and our budget is stretched thin to say the least. I want to buy the most of the best pokefood possible, but lately, it's been getting harder and harder. But I simply can't start charging trainers to have their pokemon healed, or if they want a meal. Sadly, however, I don't see too many other options.

Rudeness, thinning budgets, mooching trainers, and the occasional angry pokemon, and I still have to wear a smile every day. I have to smile warmly, greet them kindly, and care for anyone in my possession to the fullest extent of my abilities. It's starting to wear me down. Seriously, aren't we allowed to have bad days as well?

Sorry, excuse me. A trainer just came running in with a Pidgey. I can't even rant in peace; I have to go treat a bird with the sniffles.
