(Disclaimer--The story behind this song, Middle-Earth, Beleriand, Fingolfin, Morgoth, the Noldor, and Beleriand all belong to J.R.R. Tolkien. The music this song was written to is an old Irish song known as Rosin the Bow (and variant spellings) Special thanks to the infamous trad. arr. for use of the music.)

Introduction--
The world was cold and dark under the starlit sky in the First Age of Middle Earth when the Noldor returned from the land of Valinor to fight against Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. This is the song about the march of the Host of Fingolfin into Beleriand, at the first rising of the Moon and then the Sun, and when the orcs of Morgoth fled before them and the new lights in the skies.

Dagorlindale
(The Marching-Song of Fingolfin)

Come now to me down from the mountains
Come now from the river and dale
And follow me under my banner
Beneath the new moon white and pale
Beneath the new moon white and pale
Beneath the new moon white and pale
And follow me under my banner
Beneath the new moon white and pale

Down from the cold North we come marching
Both kinsmen and foe lie ahead
So let your bright swords now come flashing
To fight the Lord of Lies and Dread
To fight the Lord of Lies and Dread
To fight the Lord of Lies and Dread
So let your bright swords now come flashing
To fight the Lord of Lies and Dread

And lo! as the trumpets are sounded
And brave hearts are lifted up high
Like fire that is kindled and leaping
The Sun rises up in the sky
The Sun rises up in the sky
The Sun rises up in the sky
Like fire that is kindled and leaping
The Sun rises up in the sky

Bright silver and blue fly our banners
And flowers at our passing do spring
And to the Sun music is lifted
As from the hills our horns do ring
As from the hills our horns do ring
As from the hills our horns do ring
And to the Sun music is lifted
As from the hills our horns do ring

As leaves that are scattered and blowing
The foul host before us it flees
For Elven-wrath they cannot challenge
Nor bear the last Light of the Trees
Nor bear the last Light of the Trees
Nor bear the last Light of the Trees
For Elven-wrath they cannot challenge
Nor bear the last Light of the Trees

Now shadowed long years lie between us
And friends have passed over the Sea
And gone are the horns that were blowing
And sound in my memory
And sound in my memory
And sound in my memory
And gone are the horns that were blowing
And sound in my memory

Yet true hearts will never be conquered
And stars still shine bright in the sky
And proudly we fight against darkness
Whenever our banners may fly
Whenever our banners may fly
Whenever our banners may fly
And proudly we fight against darkness
Whenever our banners may fly
