"They're posted! Let's go!"
Arima chuckled to himself as he saw Miyazawa sprint down the halls of Tokyo University. Not much had changed since their days at Hokuei. Of course, they were older now. It was the final semester of their Senior Year. While most of the students were off partying and celebrating, Arima and Miyazawa had been planning their futures. Though they weren't nearly the "perfect model students" that they had been, neither one of them liked falling behind.
Arima remembered the end of their sophomore year. Miyazawa had been dealing with lots of family issues. Her sisters had been playing tennis together and Kano twisted the wrong way, fell, and broke both her ankles. The physical therapy had been costly and time-consuming. Not to mention emotional. Miyazawa had been a (almost) total wreck. That's why he answered a few questions wrong. She deserved 1st spot on the exams. It made her so happy.
Of course, when she found out, she turned into a psychotic hellion. That had been their first real fight in college. But it all worked out in the end. They both supplicated for each other's forgiveness and continued on with their lives.
"Wow. We tied."
This wasn't the first time that Arima and Miyazawa shared 1st place.
"Nooooooooo! I only got second!"
As usual, Miyazawa came after Arima in the alphabet. Arima gulped and stared at the back of his girlfriend's head. Was this the right time? His hands fidgeted in his pockets. How come she could do this to him? He always was able to be cool and composed, except around her.
"Would...would you like to be first?"
Miyazawa spun around. "Don't you DARE! I thought we had been through this! It's not number one if—"
Arima interrupted. "No, it's not that. I mean...would you, well...'Arima' goes before 'Miyazawa' and if, if you would like to, we could...when we go to graduate school share the same spot."
She blinked. What was he trying to say? "What do you mean?"
Arima gulped again. "Would you like to marry me?"
Marriage? For a few moments, they stood staring at each other. The other students bustled around them to read the score roster behind them, but they stayed still.
A true smile broke out across Arima's face. There was still one thing, though.
"... 'Yukino' still goes after 'Soichiro', though."
This man. The man she loved more than anything in the entire world, even Pero Pero, was asking her to share her life with him.
"I don't care about the rankings."
Words he never thought Miyazawa—no, Yukino—would say. They were pretty young to be getting married, they both knew that. There were a lot of obstacles they would have to face, but how better to face them than together. Hand in hand, they walked outside together.
The end. Short and sweet or sappy and pointless? Comments? It can't get better if you don't leave your opinion. What did you think of how the characters were portrayed? Please review!
