"What happened to you?" Olivia asked.
"Skydiving, hard landing" John replied as he continued to his desk and sat down.
"He wiped out riding his friend's Harley," Elliot said providing an alternative theory.
"Now the only thing he'll be riding is a desk," Captain Cragen added.
John was glad his colleagues were content to make jokes rather than continue interrogating him for the truth. There was no way he was going to confess to what had really happened.
He'd been spending the night again at Alex's and when nature called he decided against turning a light on, not wanting to wake his lover, besides he figured by now he knew the layout of her apartment well enough to navigate from the bedroom to the bathroom in the dark. He'd forgotten one little detail however, their clothes, including Alex's insanely pointed high-heel shoes, were strewn all over the bedroom and the hallway. He tripped over one of her shoes, and somehow in the process of falling managed to break a bone in his foot, not to mention getting a rather colorful assortment of bruises on other parts of his anatomy, which fortunately didn't show when he wore a suit and tie. Ah, the inconveniences of being the secret love of an ADA.
