Spoilers: "Proud Flesh"
Disclaimer: sigh don't own 'em, never will.
A/N – I dunno if I got the right names of the Slaughter family (is that even how you spell their last name?). So I tried. But lemme know if they're wrong.
Detective Bobby Goren watched in silence as the black car drove away, pondering Jonas Slaughter's parting words. He turned to say something to his partner when he realized that she wasn't near him. He located her at the top of the courthouse steps, still staring at Chaz Slaughter's lifeless form. Cursing at himself for not staying with her, he made his way over to her.
"Hey," he said softly. "You okay?" Eames looked up at him. "Okay, stupid question. Did someone from the department take your gun?" She nodded. "Come on, I'll take you home. You can give your statement some other time." He placed a hand on the small of her back and led her to the SUV.
The ride to Eames' apartment was silent. When he pulled the SUV in front of her building, he turned to her. Wordlessly, she exited the car, extending a silent invitation to come up. Her hands shook as she unlocked the door, which did not go unnoticed by her partner. As soon as they entered her apartment, Bobby pulled Alex into a hug. He rested his chin on the top of her head and rubbed her back soothingly.
"You know there was nothing else you could've done right?" Alex nodded. "Alex, look at me," he whispered.
Alex slowly lifted her head to meet his eyes. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Bobby brushed the tear away with his thumb. He brought his head down and kissed the top of her head. His lips lingered momentarily before moving to her forehead. Alex inhaled a shaky breath, then titled her head up and cupped his face in her hands. Slowly, their lips met in a short, gentle kiss. Their lips met again, and they tentatively explored each others mouths. When the lack of oxygen became a problem, they slowly broke apart, gazing into each others eyes.
"Stay," Alex whispered. "I don't want to be alone tonight."
Bobby kissed her lightly. "Of course," he whispered.
He led her to the bedroom where he stripped down to his boxers and undershirt while she changed in the bathroom. He turned down the covers on the bed then sat on the edge of the mattress. Alex emerged from the bathroom and saw Bobby deep in thought. Smiling, she gently made her way over to where he sat and placed her hand on his cheek. He smiled and kissed her palm.
"Is there anything that you need, Alex?"
"Sleep." She climbed into bed and patted the space next to her. Bobby happily obliged. He pulled her close to him and she snuggled up against him, resting her head on his shoulder.
"You're like a giant teddy bear, Bobby."
Bobby grinned and kissed her before turning off the bedside lamp.
"Good night, Alex," he said, running his fingers through her hair.
"Night, Bobby," she said sleepily. "Thank you."
